I started using carbon arrows and found out they are too lite and noisy in my setup. Now I've used the weight tubes and have had ok results. Then I tried some string, cheaper, easier to find. My problem is noise, the string rattles inside the arrows. Could someone tell me the exact string they use, on 5/16" carbon shafts? Thanks. :banghead:
I used to use weedwacker line before I learned about high FOC for the added weight and penetration. What I did with the weedwacker line was to crimp it every 4-6 inches. That way it pushes itself against the inside wall of the shaft and is absolutely quiet.
I had problem with strings me too,so I moved to High FOC and it is much more consistent.
I'll jump on the band wagon here too. I tried the weedwacker line, along with aquarium tubing. It's hard to beat the high FOC. Quick and easy.
Thanks for the input, I've been looking into brass inserts and heavy tips. Has anyone had good results removing inserts without hurting shafts?
My advise is to glue your points/inserts with hot melt so you can easyly change your set up without fighting with old glue.

Same here. Use the hot melt until you're absolutely positive your arrow is where you want it, then you can use the permanent stuff.
So I might be in trouble if I used a superglue type when I built them? Now when you say hot melt, do you mean the type that you use on wood and alum., or the kind that comes in sticks and a hotmelt gun?
I think it is almost the same but for me it is the one I use for my woodies. To take out those inserts you need to place a field poind and then put it on a flame since the glue release,it can take quite few time.I prefere the candle above a faster torch because it will heat less.
Another high foc vote here. The noise problem is from having to light of an arrow.
poly rope, no noise and plenty of weight.
Todd... Do Not heat any carbon shaft directly. Put a long/heavy (maybe 250 grain) field point in the insert and heat the Point Only. Do this for a short time and use a pair of pliers to pull the insert out. Any of the super glues or epoxy's can be loosened up this way.
REMEMBER! Easy with the heat. Then, after your shaft cools you can clean out the inside with a brush and glue 'em up again.
Some up us "foot" the front of our carbons to keep the from cracking on impact with something hard like when we miss a 3D target.
... mike ...
I got some wooden dowels down at the hardware store. They add wt and with a little slight bend, they don't rattle. Also, if I want to remove the dowel, I remove the field point, and I swing my arrow by the nock end, then dowel will come out enough for me to grab it.
The dowels are cheap $$$$ and work just like I wanted. The added wt is perfect.
Use wood arrows it works. Its the old carbon...LOL
Put some goldtip weights behind the insert they work great. LCH
Don't know about the superglue, but I have had good luck removing inserts that were glued with epoxy by inserting a drill bit in the arrow shaft and swinging it or "flicking" it so the drill bit moves quickly down the tube hitting the insert.
