Title: I'm very shrewy
Post by: phil_des_bois on January 24, 2010, 03:00:00 PM
Got my new shrew in the mail yesterday, it's been a long journey for this bow since it left Ron Laclair Shoppe on December 4th but arrived to my place in France yesterday on January 23rd. It is usually faster than that to go overseas but my bow went by Shangai after Chicago, so the opposite of the earth     :biglaugh:

It is a classic hunter T/D 54" 61# @ 27" foam and carbon, all osage.

I had to modify slightly my GN quiver to fit on the short riser. The balance of the bow is perfect with this quiver.

I took it for hunting this afternoon, and what a pleasure to carry (and crawl with) in the thick brush and bush we have in southern France!

Ron and Gregg are really top notch guys to deal with.

BEAUTIFUL NEW SHREW! I HAVE A LI'L FAVORITE RECURVE COMING THIS SPRING.
WHAT DO YOU HUNT THERE IN FRANCE?
MERCI ET BONNE CHANCE!

Unfortunately, small game is pretty scarce where I live, so what we hunt is wild boar, but they hide all day in inaccessible places and only come out at night so they are  very hard to hunt without a dog, but I'll keep trying and enjoy being in the wood, and maybe one day I'll get lucky. Hunting is quite complicated in France (you are restricted to the area around a town, and if you want to hunt  other places you have to pay more, and sometime a lot). I wish I still was in the US to bow hunt

For sure Jerry, it was worth the wait, but I have been lucky enough to pick a spot from someone who had changed is mind and was looking to get rid of his spot on the shrew list, so even with the long journey in the mail the wait was less than 14 months.

What are all the rubber bands bunched up behind the heads of the arrows?

The rubber band are for small game, they prevent the arrow from going all the way through the game.

Phil,

You are going to love that bow!! I have one that looks almost like it (including the Bow Bolt) except mine has the actionboo cores. I also have a couple of Classic Hunters with the foam/carbon limbs and Bow Bolt that have different woods. And then there are the other 7 or 8 Shrews I own.   :)  They all shoot great, but the foam/carbon Shrews are the best ever. Let us all know what you think of your new bow after you have had a chance to shoot it more. Congratulations on the new addition to your bow rack.

MnFn, I did fold the lower part so it goes on the side of the bow instead of the back, as you can see on the picture below:

Hope this help

Rick, did you ever try the arrow I sent you ? Or carbon is not your cup of tea ? As you can see, I also have wood arrows leaning on the tree, and the good thing about that bow is that I can shoot skinny carbon shaft or large wood shaft with only a quick adjustment when I switch, this is not the case with most of my other bows.

smooth as butter, no hand shock, shoot where you point, feather light, almost as fast as my recurves, and if I redo the serving on the string to get it thinner I will probably get the couple of fps difference since the arrow nock fits really tight and there is clear twang when the arrow leave the bow due to that.

I'm happy    :bigsmyl:
