Been shooting some wood arros and the nocks keep splitting.I'm using index nocks w/ Duco cement.Need a resolution before I damage my bow
That's not good--How old are the nocks--I've had it happen with old nocks on some old vintage Bear arrows but never with newer ones.
Are your nocks glued to paint?
Old Mercurys, will definitely get old, and brittle. Which will lead to breaking the ears of the nock off.
Not good, just like dry firing your bow.
A bow can only take so many dry fires before it breaks. I had a Monarch crack through the sight window, on the 13th dry fire. Hum

I suggest replacing them with a new batch of nocks.
In the instance that this may be caused by old, brittle nocks, don't use some that you've had stashed away. Buy new ones from a source that turns them over frequently.

i like nirk nocks, only had one split after hitting tree.would definatly try something new.i know this is dumb for me to ask ,are arrows spined heavy enough for your set up...chris
If the nocks are fairly new and not suspected of being old then I would be checking my tapers. If your taper angle is too shallow then it will put all the pressure on the back of the nock. Dry fit your nocks before glueing and make sure the fit is good and you cannot rock the nock back and forth.

Yah,
I'm very particular about fit and there is no paint.I've had this batch of nocks for about 4 years now. They are Classic index nocks.
Looks like I'll be ordering new ones
perhaps ...
not enuf glue, wrong glue type, surfaces not clean, onbe or both surfaces not taking a bond, bad nock plastic, too much pressure from your string grip on the nock.
If your string is not too big for the nock, and if you haven't altered the nocks, then they are most likely defective. Get rid of them.
I had a batch of classic nocks about 5 years old that were stuck in a drawer, I put them on and the same thing happened. I took them off and trashed em'.
Those sound like bad nocks to me ! How much weight are you shooting?
To tight on the string.
Not too tight on the string or grip.Shooting low to mid 60's in weight.
I had this happen one time with some cheep plastic nocks, Very Scary indeed.
I had this problem too on a few arrows awhile back. I figured out I was puting too much pressure on the nock when I glued them on trying to make them fit snug. They cracked around the edge.
No problems since I quit tryin to be SuperNockGluerGuy.
I believe the only thing that will cause a nock to break is a loose fit. The taper on that end of the shaft is critical.
If the ears are breaking off it's because your stings to big for your nocks.
your draw is to short and your poundage is to high.
are the arrows to week are the knocks the right size for the arrow are they to tight on the string?
Check the nock taper on the shaft.
