Was thinking about maybe trying it thought they looked cool seen it somewhere. Any pics and steps in how you do it. Burn then seal?
Thanks
Bob
Bob, I don't use it for camo, I just use it as a diff. touch to my privative arrows....

Yes, burn/torch...then seal....
Looks cool Curt! Burning doesn't hurt them huh
badas arras Gu!
Is that snakeskin as a wrap? If it is, that is some serious craft going on on those arrows.
I have burned for camo/looks for years no issues with hurting the shafts or lowering there durability.

Hi Curt.
That is some work of craft and art on those arrows.
Also like that snakeskin wrap.
Respect
Daniel

Nice arrows guys, true works of art.
I get a little burn and scorch marks during straightening the shoots I make into shafts.
i burn mine as well. It looks good. I am doing another batch this weekend, I will post up some pics when they are done.
Here are some homemade ones.
Top one is my favorite.

Those are some good looking arrows bows !
wow guru and yononindo those are really cool primitive arrows. i would like to see how you tied on the fletchings. did you use glue and a fletching jig first? if not, how do you get the correct spacing on your fletchings for the correct helical twist?do you tie on the back first?how do you determine how much space to leave available in front of the nock? i really like the trade points too yononindo. :notworthy: :notworthy:

Hi Broketooth,
this is how I do it.
I am using this antler tip for fletching. Great little helper and easy to make yourself.

Also good for straightening arrows.
Daniel
Very nice job guys!!
Thats some major artwork guys.Great job
Cool Stuff, any close pics of the burned shafts themselves?
Thanks
Bob
Man, those look nice!
Wow...that is really cool. You guys are artists.
does burning the shafts change the spine?
Very Nice ... ! I like the "OLD" look !
You fellas are incredible artists. That antler fletcher is too cool. Was that your own idea or is that something you researched?Ive got to make one of them.
try burning on some ash shafts when done lightly only the grain burns .
SA-WEET!
Does the burning weaken the arrow at all?
Great looking arrows,I have used this method with good results, sorry I can't post pics.
I have a brass curved template that I bought that allows you to burn on different patterns such as hoof prints and oyher designs. When I used the pattern that allows you to do circular designs I had arrows break at that point, just something to keep in mind.I just free hand patterns now.

Hello Izzy,
the idea about making this antler fletcher just came out of the blue.
But I am definitely not the inventor. I bet you, tools like this must have been invented a long time ago.
Made some wooden ones before, but I do prefer the antler much more.
Daniel
yononindo can you show us how you made the fletching tool
Up
Guys, what are you using to burn the arrows? I tried it today using a propane torch on a cedar shaft and I now have a crack on the shaft. It seems superficial, but I am concerned about even using it.
Is this going to happen every time? Did I just burn it too close?
Huntress, maybe an alcohol lamp or a candle instead? It should be done with great care to keep from weakening the wood. I wouldn't use the cracked shaft.
Folks, don't try this on sealed shafts, especially with gasket lacquer! It's nitrocelluose, as in gunpowder, and burns like crazy!
Thanks, Don! I plowed ahead, but more carefully, and the rest of the shafts are fine. Next time I will use a heat source that is less intense.
I use our gas kitchen stove forstraightening cane and hardwood shoots for arrows and use it to scorch the wood for a camo effect. I scorch while tempering the shafts after straightening.
Wow, simply beautiful, wish I could do that.♠
I burn all my ash arrows which really brings out the grain. Butane torch for me works great.
Very impressive stuff, men. My hat's off to you.
Those are beautiful......but would be afraid I would lose them.....I'd have to pass up all my shots.
Very impressive. Nice work guy's.
NICE ART WORK,,,THATS FOR SURE,,,

Guys, those are all some beautiful arrows!
The arrows being posted sure are pretty guys! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
Wow. Is there any way you do a step by step of this? Very cool!
I use a propane torch; just gotta get a feel for it, and it is simple.

Some nice stuff here! I straighten if needed then torch them randomly around the shaft, check again for straightness and stain/seal if I'm using a stain/sealer. Let dry and start my finish coats. These are laminated birch. No nice grain to ruin by burning.
