Title: Assenheimer bow
Post by: DEATHMASTER on January 21, 2010, 06:43:00 PM
Who has a Assenheimer master hunter elite or has shot one?
Not much said about them and they seem like a great average mans bow.
Been around since like 1950's and has a good price. Looks to be quality bows.

Who can give me some input?

Thanks
Tim

They are nice bows. Maybe the quietest recurve I've ever owned, as fast as about any other recurve, and a super, fantastic finish. Very nice craftsmanship.

Other sights have had that same thing to say.
Just never see them on here or the sale area.
Thanks billy

I don't or haven't owned one of their bows but I have spoken to Don on several occasions and he's a good guy that stands behind his products.

I own a Master Hunter with three sets of limbs.  Same bow as the Elite--just some cosmetic differences.  In my opinion, they are among the very best recurves out there.

I have owned 4 Assenheimers. Still have 3 of them. Great bows. Quiet, smooth, forgiving, fast enough (I dont do chronographs), and Don is one of the good guys. He gives alot back to the sport with his donations.

Here is the last bow I got from Don. Bocote and Curly Zebrawood with Waterfall Zebra limb veneers.

Owned them for years. Great bows and a real gentleman to due business with. Don't let the reasonable price mislead you, they are top quality.

I have one very much like the one pictured due in next month, I went to his house and shot some before ordering, Quiter without string silencers than most bows with them. shot where I looked and very smooth to draw.

I second them being quiet! I've never owned one but a buddy of mine brought one up with him from Alabama this year. Once I picked it up it was hard to put it down.

Look forward to owning one eventually!

Brian P. I have heard about them being simple bows of great quality but that bow is awsome looking. Love the limbs.

Sounds like you need to call because they are slow with the computer questions to them. But Excellent people. Top Quality AND GREAT looking as Brian P. has showen.

I have owned 2 of them. Only sold them because I moved to a new house that did not have room for me to shoot. I miss them.

Excellent bows!!! Very quiet, smooth, and beautiful bows. Regardless of the price, I think they are as good as any bow out there. As mentioned several times before, you wont find any nicer people to do business with.

I have to echo what everyone else has said.  I have a 64" Assenheimer with two sets of limbs. Very, very quiet shooting bow, smooth shooting, accurate and a quick shooter.  Don and Shirley are very fine people.  You won't go wrong with one of Don's bows.

I had one for a year or so. I sold it because I had too many bows. I have nothing but good things to say about them. I liked it. Sometimes I wish I still had it. Gary

I shot Bill Sant's Assenheimer bow and can tell you, if I were looking for a recurve, it would be an Assenheimer! It was the nicest recurve I have shot, ever!

Brian P. Please send my bow back. I bought one exactly like that in April 2009 and ordered a second set of limbs. I loved the bow so much when I picked up the limbs in July I ordered another riser with the bocote and zebra wood  reversed. Great shooting bow and wonderful people to work
with. Bow #1 62" 54# @ 28"  Bow #2 62" 48#
@ 28"  The Finest bow I've ever owned!

I've owned one of Don's bows for 20 years.  It's the only bow that I never would sell no matter how bad economic times got!

Don is one of the most experienced bowyers in the country, his bows are very well made priced low but with top level performances you can't go wrong.

ohiodoeslayer,

Sounds to me like you have 2 of my bows lol.

The bow I pictured is a 60" 53# @ 28". I have a pair of 64" bows as well. A brown actionwood bow and one of his all Zebrawood bows with Zebra veneers. One is 56# and the other is 57#.

I had one of his camo actionwood bows that was 62" at one time. I sold it to a buddy in Tn. that I was trying to get into trad. He ended up going back to wheels though and sold it to a fellow down there. Wished I wold have kept it now.

I'll second and third everything said about an Assenheimer!  I own both models and believe they are on par if not better than any recurve made, and for the price WOW; half the price of most new bows!  Workmanship and customer service are fantastic, do I sound like a salesmen yet!

I had one and don't now only because that one particular bow was a little on the heavy side for me. Also I just like shooting longbows better. But as far as takedown recurves go you couldn't hardly do better. The quietest recurve I've ever shot. Very smooth draw. You couldn't deal with a better person than Don Assenheimer. If I ever buy another recurve it would be in my choice.

I own three of Don's bows now. I'm a fan of his 66 inch bow and old age has forced me to buy lighter limbs from Don. You can't go wrong with one of his bows. .................

I guess you do not see used ones for sale because people hang on to them and, buy more of them.

You can make the arguement that Dons' bows are the best bows out there for the money,,super quiet, smooth, great finish and fast,,that's why you don't see hardly any for sale, once you have one you keep it,,,

Great bows, very reasonably priced,,one of the best grips you'll ever find  in a bow,,,super quiet,,very easy to tune,,underrated for their quickness if you're into that,,Don handpicks every piece of wood he uses. Someone should correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he collaborated with Roger Rathhaar when he first got started.

I own a 50 pounder and a 42 pounder and they both shoot great. They are great bows and not only shoot but is the best looking bows I have.
