I've been getting the itch to go bowfishing the past couple days. Anyone ever do any cold temp carp shooting. It's been in or around 50 degrees for a week, the ice has melted away and I can't wait to spring.
Hard to shoot them through the 3 feet of ice we get here in January... :D
I've heard of people cutting holes in the Ice and waiting.
I have a few friends that get em at night in early, early spring.

Man, that's hardcore. I can say with all honesty I have never wanted a carp that badly...
They're a lot eaiser to track in the snow.
Everyone thinks I'm crazy. :knothead:
I gotta cousin that waites till it gets cold and takes a flash light and a frog gig then floats along nice and slow lookin in the water and gigs the fish, most of the time he does ok, always brings some home.
He went the other night and it was 6 degrees, sounds fun but to cold for me.
Well Trad Gangers its warming up, anyone bowfishing.
Still 2 months away for me. Shed hunting/scouting/stumping first, then turkey hunting, finally bowfishing when the turkeys are done humiliating me!
The tilapias are spawnning here in Florida. They are everywhere! I will not eat tilapia from the store because it comes from China. The tilapia farms in China feed them some nasty stuff. The inland canals and water ways here in FL are full of water and clean from good rains this winter and I have been eating tillapia for about a week now. We have blue tilapia and Nile Perch down here. They get pretty big too. Bowfishing is like the only option since they don't take lures and bates.
The small mouth buffalo are starting to move here in WV. I shot a couple this evening, will post a pic in a few.
Waiting can't speer here until April 1 once when younger and dumber had to break skin of ice while wading so we could go on the opener.
Still Ice out but that's rapidly changing

Man I cant wait to go again
Great pics look like you found some honey holes.
Kill the carp! That's some good shooten' there!
We cant shoot any carp til the 15th of may in NY, doesn't make much sense to put a season on an invasive species.
A friend and I shot the Great Miami near Dayton this past weekend. In about four hours we put 40 or so common carp in the boat. Nothing really big but solid fish...and man did it feel good to be out!
That's a lot of dead crap!!
make that "carp"
Oh, never mind, I had it right the first time!
I gotta agree with you Jim. It seems the state would want to get rid of them!
These pics make me want to head out again, but we got a few more months to wait up here in Manitoba.
wow, different worlds there!
As the carp is a beloved game fish here, i know a guy who would pay around 5-8 grand for the carp pictures in this thread, alive though.
Great shooting nevertheless!
Axel, different worlds indeed. Around here they are an invasive species that can wreak havoc with the native gamefish populations. Most states, Connecticut included, have no closed season and an unlimited creel limit. Some areas have taken some drastic, and expensive, measures to get rid of them.
Carp.....'The Other White Meat'
Well, I sure didn't think the fish would be in the shallows just yet, BUT, thankfully I was wrong. Headed out to my honey hole after dropping a few bucks on a fishing license and had a blast.
Looking forward to a sunny day to hit em again. I was lucky enough to take one of my best shots yet, the ol' hip shot. Couldn't believe I made that shot.
Anyone in southern Ohio wondering if it's possible this time of year .... here ya go

Thats what we want to see. Great pics, and awesome shirt.
Awesome! Now I have to go out and look around for some to shoot.
The action is fast and furious in Arkansa right now!
Awesome get out there and get um Trad Gangers.
I am not in carp hunting country now; but when I was it seemed like when the dandelions came into bloom; the carp were spawning..
Lots of fun ! Longest I ever got was a land locked one- that was a skinny 36" - heaviest was just over 40 pounds.
Its fun :)
Now I really gotta ask, what in the world do you guys do with them???
I sell mine to Red Lobster.
I have a farmer that lets me throw them in is manure spreader. There are some lakes in Wisconsin that have dumpsters out for the purpose of carp
