Here are the specs...
Black Widow MA ll 62" 64# @28 String DYNA97 Skinny
arrow 2114 cut to 28" (I draw 27") 150 gr tip, 80 gr inserts, and glue on nock.
I am bust nocks at take off.
Any Ideas why the nocks keep busting?
Bad batch of nocks?Ive had some old nocks get brittle and do the same thing.Just a thought.
It happens once in a while, but I'd get some new nocks if it occurs often.
How are you putten them on are they seated all the way, does it split or just pop off.If it pops off it could be to tight on the string or the lip is worn.try some easton nocks
I have a bow with a cracked riser from that. I don't trust those see through nocks at all. I use Easton nocks or some kind of solid color flexable nock on everything.
your shafts could be to week maybe.
So you're shooting about 61# with a 2114 that has 230 gr. up front? Not sure if its causing your nocks to break but Lordy, that sounds like an awfully weak arrow to me. You might try a standard 125 gr, point with no heavy insert, or a 2117, and see if the problem goes away.
Nocks too tight on the serving?
When are they breaking?
Too much glue may weaken a glue-on nock.
Could be a bad batch of nocks or damaged before. But also those arrows with that front end weight sound aliite weak spined for a 64# recurve.
I have seen this happen with 3 under shooters; and as old 'one eyed Bill' said : "Split finger for me now!".
Me thinks it happens when you hit a nock with another arrow; and don't notice it. Then the nock is cracked; and when you shoot...
Always check the nocks for cracks!
I suspect your spine is way too weak and perhaps your arrows are hitting your riser. I shoot 30 inch 2117 from 58lb @ 29' draw with 125 gr head. If you are trying to have high foc you should try carbon. I never could get a front loaded light weight alum shaft to shoot well. Just my 2 cents.
If you aren't dry firing the bow when this happens then the nock must be breaking after it leaves the string which might indicate the arrow striking the bow as it passes... very possible with your arrow spine choice.
If you are dry firing then the nock is breaking at release and any one of several things could be happening.
Nocks too tight, bad nocks (some older plastic gets brittle), previously damaged nocks.
Are the nocks glued on? Certain glues are not compatible with some nocks.
I had same issue with Cedars. I used Bohning T-nocks with Bohning Fletch-tite Platinum.
No idea what was going on there, but as soon as I changed glue the issue went away.
When you get any arrow to arrow slap at the target are you checking the nocks for a crack over a light source? You can see minor cracks starting before they give up. I cracked a riser, hit my truck, hit my car from cracked nocks. When they first start to crack they still fit the string properly and feel ok but the next shot guess what "BAM". So now any time I get contact at the target I either hold them up toward the sun or over a light to look for cracks, sense doing this for the last several years I havent blowen a nock. Don't know if this is your problem but it's what happened to me. :banghead:
I just replaced the nocks on a set of arrows that I bought off the web, they were a style that looked like a Bjorn copy. They worked fine until the temps got colder, the tight ones broke first. So I opened them up a little. Another one broke, so I changed them all. Used to have the same problem with nirks years ago.
Glue--It's the glue!
"If you are dry firing then the nock is breaking at release and any one of several things could be happening.
Nocks too tight, bad nocks (some older plastic gets brittle), previously damaged nocks."
The nocks are breaking at release, the nock pieces, are hitting me in the nose (drawn blood twice).
"Are the nocks glued on? Certain glues are not compatible with some nocks."
I have had glued nocks break, and treaded on nock break upon release. Most of the nock I have used are loose enough, they fall off the string.
Are you sanding the nocks to fit the serving?
I have heard of people filing nocks, and then having them fail.
