I'm pretty taken by the look of these bows. Just wondering if anyone has experience with them. Quality, speeds, forgiveness, hand shock..etc. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!!
I Just Got an "American LongBow" Model from "DAVE" at Siegeworks!! AWSOME BOW!! :archer:
Dave.. Not Dan.. I've got one on order. will advise..
Will be watching this one, since I am interested in one too.
There's more than a couple of his bows I'd love to get the opportunity to fling some arrows out of.
I'll be watching this one too!
God bless,Mudd
Cool!
woodie4life... When are you expecting?
Woodie4life - Henderson texas - i know who that is :)
Your bocote is due in end of the week to first of next week :)
Dave
They look to be very nice bows but I know few about them,I would like to see some reviews me too.
I have a sidewinder and it is fast and quiet with no handshock, and very lite in the hand beautiful bow.
I don't know if you've check on Stickbow.com they have one listed and I think it is only a few weeks old!
Thanks Dave, Let me know how the grain looks?? I've got a pig hunt lined up for the end of Feb. Sure would like to try it on some of those oinkers??
Zradix, should be around the end of Feb.
I have not shot the Sidewinder but Dave makes a quality bow. I own a Magyar and have another one on the way. Plus Dave is a quality guy to deal with.
Awesome!!! Hope you love it! Course if ya don't I have a big mailbox. :-)
Possum... I just looked and couldn't find it. Nuts.. Thanks for the heads up though!
Woodie, do you need a loaner Gen III to get some practice? happy to loan out a 45/50# until your bow is done.
Dave
How sweet is that!! :bigsmyl:
Shot one for the first time today. My friend, Northern California Hunter, has a longbow and I think a Sidewinder or Scythian. Shot the one that is not a longbow...flat out spits the arrow..I'd have to guess it was over 200 fps...looked as fast as my wife's wheelie...very smooth and quiet.
BTH - that is prolly one of the best comments i have ever read - your gonna inflate my ego!!!! :D
Truely tho - the best speed i have gotten has been 212fps on a 8ggp at i believe the sidewinder was 55#. That was at a 28" draw - finger release. BUT it was also made with a boo core and maple veneers and had a slightly pronounced recuve then the normal models. I cut some of the recurve as the bow was fast, stable and smooth, but arrow tuning seemed to make the testers say the bow was a typical shortbow and hard to shoot. Not the case - the bow wants an arrow it likes.....
I recently tested a 55 pound sidewinder with 14ggp and got 158 fps, the arrow was rock sold and sunk into the 30 yard target to the nock.
Currently the best combo i have found is the boo core with maple veneers, i have supercharged the bow design and tested at 30 to 32" draw at 7ggp, they get REAL touchy and hard to tune BUT once tuned - holy cow!!!
Currently i am experimenting with thicker tips that are 3/8" wide and string bridges, the bow is starting to really spit an arrow. I have cut the experimentals to 53 and 55 inches strung and drawing 31". I have broken 212fps on these bows, the test bow is rock solid and going through testing like a champ. I am staying away from carbon for now as i still want to keep prices down....
i am playing with diamondback and cobra skins with claro walnut (oregon black figured walnut) in this short configuration. But the project is slow as i have other things needing to get done.
Dave
Yea, like finish my bow!! (other things to get done) HA HA just kidding.. I went to Daves place and met with him and his wife, nice people, shot the Gen3 and the sidewinder and they are both SWEET bows!! no handshock and quiet.. I can't wait to get mine,, the price is right too!! good people.. nice horses too..
Woodie... What made you decide on the GenIII instead of the Sidewinder??
anyone else
What i haqve heard back is that the bow likes 10# heavier spine then rated and that it seems to like a 6.75 to 7.25" brace with a 1/4" high nock. I think people asume that a short bow is hard to shoot and go into it with thier minds made up - this is just not fact.
If i am remembering right - woodie4life went with a Gen III as he liked the looks better and if i am thinking right the one he tested was set at about 40# compared to the sidewinder i had here that was about 50#. BUT - he can certainaly pipe in. I believe he liked both bows equally and was inpressed with both.
Dave, don't let it go to your head :D
She has a 24" draw, shoots 40# w/ 350 grain arrows. She's probably not shooting faster than 250 fps from her machine.
Juan, on the other hand, draws that 65# shortbow of yours to 28 1/2 inches with a 630 grain arrow. I'd venture a guess he was reaching 210 or so...like to see it on a chrono. The arrows were flat, fast, straight, and accurate from 20 out to 40 yards. He was tickled pink.
I shot it, and 65# is a tad heavy for me and I'm a lefty shooting a righty bow...it was very nice.
OH CRAP DAVE!!!! My APOLOGIES Sir!! I Told Sara I was Heck with Names. :help:
Been away for awhile. I picked the Gen3, after shooting both (sidewinder/gen 3) because the gen 3 doesn't contact the limbs( a longbow) vs the sidewinder does.(to me a re curve) The speeds are close to the same.. both are very quiet/ with no silencers.. I can't wait to get it.. Thx Dave for the offer to use one of your bow's for my schedule pig hunt but i can't do it w/o enough practice time..
Let's see pics please
I was thinking about picking the GenIII just for the same reason...all other things being about equal. Thanks a lot for the input!
what is the name of the new short recurve he is making
I was blessed with a gift Sidewinder, backed with rattlesnake skins, made with wenge and zebrawood with bone accents. I haven't shot a lot of bows but GOOD LORD is this bow fast!
My other bow, a Seigeworks longbow, is a great bow too but the comparison is night and day. The sidewinder, which I named "Nagini" (I don't usually personalize my stuff, but she's an exception), will no doubt punch through any critter on this continent, and I'm including all the exotics in our zoos! Does anyone have a water buffalo?
Seriously, nice work Dave!
The gifter wishes to remain anonymous but I can tell ya there's an angel walking amoungst us! I will carry this bow to the grave and hopefully someone will be kind enough to stick it in the box along side me. :notworthy:
I will post pics this evening.
O.K... So, it's been raining like gangbusters over here so this is the best background I can come up with for now. Another disclaimer, these photos do the bow absolutely no justice:

Now, there are a few items in a man's life that he picks up and knows will be a part of him for the rest of his days. This here bow dang-near fell out of the sky (it was a gift out-of-the-blue) and is just such an item. It's a piece of art and infused with soul. I don't normally do this but I had to name "her". Her name is "Nagini" which is Sanskrit for snake (female)and the Chi-Rho is there to remind me of all the blessings in my life (and to give the bow extra joo-joo!)
My appologies to Dave (and the anonymous-by-request land-angel on an island in the South Pacific ;) ) if it's irksome that I wrote on the bow. You sir, are an alchimist!

I'm waiting on some stiffer arrows, but with my ADTrad Lites and a much lighter field tip I got some decent and WICKED FAST flight out of this bow, as Toby attested to above. It is might quiet but I doubt I'll need to worry about what little sound it makes as the arrow will get to its target before there's a chance for flinching!
Lucky Dog...lol have fun. Awesome looking bow!! :bigsmyl: :clapper:
Congrats Juan very nice bow.Zebrawood,Ebony?,snake skins and antler, what other else ask in a bow?
WOW.... Ok so now i know tha whole story. The gift, the man that bought the gift and the man that recieved it..... TO COOL!!!!
VERY COOL!!!
Dave
Wow that is a nice bow, and I wish I had friends like that.
Dave PM'd me and told me it's the first bow he's ever applied snake skins to... Well, all the more fitting it be named Nagini then!
Yep Dave, very cool indeed.
was the first sidewinder i put skins on :) was the second sidewinder i ever used wenge on. :)
