I drove to an archery shop outside of Philadelphia to shoot with some friends that I hadn't seen in a while. Took a few of my bows along with me to run through the chronometer. Not very scientific results, as I didn't measure the draw weight or anything. I will list the bow specs, the arrow weight, the presumed draw weight and grains/pound as well as the fps. I did weigh the arrows and took the average weight and shot 6-8 arrow groups to get the average fps. All of the bows were as they would be hunted with, with the recurves having a small hush puppy and pair of super string leeches and the longbows having a small hush puppy. I assumed 3 pounds of increased draw weight per inch increase in draw length. I know, lots of flawed data, but it was only for fun.

Maybe someone will be able to normalize for a consistant GPP to see which bows are more efficient, but I think they are all pretty close given the GPP. Longbows a little more quiet though. All of the arrows were well tuned for the bows and the draw length was very consistant.
Lots of fun and alot more shooting after the chrono. Might not want to shoot tomorrow.
I just got my chrono.today can't wait to get to it. Gives an interesting view of bow performance. :wavey:
Blackwidow SAX 49@28 45@my 26.5inch drawl 405gr 9gr per in arrow 183fps
Fox High Sierra 50@28 same arrow and drawl 176fps
Widow
... the only speed I'm interested in is how fast the deer falls after my arrow goes through Him....!
I know ......you "primitives" ...lol! Anyway have fun with everything. That's what it is all about ...Jeff
For your 29.5 draw the following adjustment should normalize the numbers
Bow #1
Black Widow MAIII recurve 64" 65# @ 28"
Adjusted to 9 gpp 192.8
Bow #2
Black widow MAIII recurve 60" 67# @ 27"
Adjusted to 9 gpp 196.9
Bow #3
Leon Stewart Slammer r/d longbow 66" 71# @ 28"
Adjusted to 9 gpp 190.6
Bow #4
RER vortex r/d longbow 62" 56# @ 28"
Adjusted to 9 gpp 188.4
Bow #5
Red Wing Slim Line Pro Recurve 58" 45# @ 28"
Adjusted to 9 gpp 187.6
Thanks Mike. You're the man.
Looks like only a few fps difference between the two longbows, the Red Wing, and the widow with the longer limbs. The widow with the shorter limbs appears to have performed better, but beig shorter the limbs also might stack a little more than the others at my draw, so the draw weight may actually have increased more than the others after 28".
This is an old post, but I thought somebody else might like to see the numbers from some testing I did awhile back so I am bumping it to the top.

Interesting results. Thanks for sharing. I use my chrono a few times a week. It really helps me when it comes down tuning and tweakig set ups. Its definetly not needed but its fun to compare arrows and bow strings.
