Title: Kustom King, Black Forest Longbow
Post by: George D. Stout on January 18, 2010, 03:56:00 PM
Just received this a few days ago and just now had a chance to walk it through my back yard woods.  It's 64",  52# at my draw, and of def/ref design.  The riser is walnut with bubinga/maple stripe, and overlay of olivewood and maple; limbs are olivewood under clear glass, with a core of red elm.  Tip overlays are cocobola.

The bow has an ample riser...hand-filling and is very comfortable.  It's very quiet on the shot and stable with little noticeable vibration.  The string is dacron, flemish twist.

I really can't give you a speed check, but Blacky did tests on this bow's brother, in the Dec/Jan issue of TBM, so you can check that for specifics.

It's a very comfortable bow to carry and shoot, and points well canted or vertical.  I shot some stumps, clods and limbs and could see myself using this bow in October for whitetails.  It's also nice to look at.  Kustom King is a sponsor here and you can see the bows there.  Here is a little slide show on my outing;  the hole of muddy water is where I did a one-legger into the mess.  'Twas a little chilly....up to my knee through the ice 8^).

It was a beautiful day here...partly sunny and in the mid forties.  Click on photo for slides.

Sweet bow George.  Looked like a fine day to take it for a walk in the woods (well, except for the hole).

Fine little stream flowing in some of those photos!  What stream is that?  Yellow Creek?  One of the tribs to the Juni?  Looks like it might hold a trout or three!

It is a tributary of the Raystown Branch, Juniata River.  It's not stocked but trout work up from the Raystown; mostly it is smallmouth (black bass), rock bass, suckers and fall fish.
It's running pretty full right now due to heavy snows that are melting on Wills and Buffalo mountains.

George,

Those bows look like a good bow for the money. I wouldn't mind having one myself.

Ben...it was good until I went knee deep in the frozen hole 8^).

Ron, it has different pull characteristics than the Mahaska....seems to peak later in the draw.
That Mahaska was a sweetie....I'm sure you know that 8^).

George - Tim Cosgrove brought one of those up to ShrewHaven this year. I was very impressed with how it shot. Good choice!
