Well last year i decided to really hunt hard this past season. Ive practice everyday from aug 17th intil today and will continue to do so till next season. I scouted, was on stand ever chance i got, didnt see many deer and came up empty handed. Its partly my fault for not hunting some good places i found due to a lack of confidence in my own abilities to find deer. It aint soooo easy with Dad their to tell me where to go and when to go.
Soooo this year ive started scoutin NOW, im still practiceing, im gona hunt public land where bait AINT allowed. Im gona learn every aspect i can about deer, their habits, seasonal food sources etc, etc. What are some of the best/favorite books/videos of yalls about about deer. I wanna kno about travel patterns, food sources, terrain features, reading sign CORRECTLY etc etc.
Its time for me to make the move from a boy who likes to hunt, to man whos is a true deer hunter. Any suggestions from you guys would be GREATLY appreciated. I kno alot of you guys are seasoned veterans sooo DONT hold out on me.
Hunter Smith.
Ps. ive already got Bowhunting October whitetails so dont mention that one.
"Come November" by Gene Wensel. You'll want to read it every season. Endless amounts of info and insight on deer hunting and ethics.
For me if im not letting the deer teach me then i try to read anything written by the Wensels, and Charles Alsheimer
Yeah, ive pretty much decided to get as much from the Wensels as i can. How many books have the written collectively?? Are they all still in print??

Collectively they have written five books that I recall. "Come November" is basically a combination, plus some new information, from the first two books Gene wrote. In my opinion, his newest "Buckskin and Bone" is a comprised of a lot of info from "Come November" plus some new information.
I believe only "Come November" and "Buckskin and Bone" are still in print from Gene.
Barry's only book that I'm aware of is "Once Upon a Tine". I haven't had the pleasure of reading this yet, but judging from his sense of humor I'd say it will be very enjoyable.
For quality whitetail hunting information I strongly recommend Roger Rothaar's books.
