I recently slipped and fell, cought myself with my left arm and felt a burn in my shoulder. Afer five weeks it was getting worse. I went to the orthpedic doc and he says I have inflamed tendons and they are in turn rubbing on a small bone spur. Has any one had a similar situation and how long to get better. I cannot shoot my recurve because of the pain.
Since it was a fall and not simple overuse I would get a second opinion first. Especially since the moment you did it you felt the burn. Sounds like you tore something to me for sure.
Did you get a MRI ? If the second doc does say it is indeed tendonitis then I am sure he will put you on all the Aleve you can take per day and ice 15-20 minutes three times a day. After 3-4 week of that you should be fine if that is all it was. Go see another doc and get that second opinion.

To elknailer, I posted the same subject last wednsday and had alot of replies, go back to page 3. I know how you feel. Im sitting here at a computer instead of being at the Michigan Traditional Bowhunters rabbit hunt this morning because of shoulder tendonitis.
Could not agree more with the suggestion for a 2nd opinion. I have suffered from what you describe and diagnosed by an Orthopedist but mine is a Chronic condition rather than Acute like your fall induced injury. Remember the 2cnd opinion, but my condition almost completely goes away with a regular excersize regimen involving power waves (fancy push-ups) and chin-ups and shooting-go figure.
Ya ice, pills, shots, mri's, several doc's, rehab till I was blue in the face. This is the start of year #2 and I'm just now able to shoot with minimal discomfort. You just don't now how long it's going to take. But I'm glad they didn't have to cut on me.
Cortizone has always speeded things up for me. I've been lucky to have an orthopedic surgeon as a great friend. Vitamin I{Ibroprofin} is also a great friend of mine.
I got online just now to check up on last Wed.'s thread. was off work for two days still can't use my left arm much, wen't to my local m.d. (quack) can't get in to a recomended md until the 23rd of next month. please pardon the spelling and punt. typing with a onehand hunt and peck method.
Ice is the wonder drug! People under rate it 'cause it's cheap & easy.
Ibuprofen works pretty good but can have some serious side affects.
Beware of cortisone, it makes connective tissue brittle and can cause injuries to become your lifelong companions.
Rest, ice & moderate use of anti-inflammatories.
i'd raise my left arm to show sympathy but i can't lift it beyond shoulder height as it's impinged and in rehab right now. :(
i agree, too - cortisone just masks the problem and makes ya feel like it all went away. it doesn't. shooting steroids in yer body ain't good.
modality (rehab) and ice will work well ... BUT ONLY IF you allow it to, and by not pulling string until yer sure you have the issue under control. ;)
My whole left arm is messed up. Broke the shoulder 3 years ago and re-injured it dragging a deer out. I've got tendinitis in the elbow. I can hunt if I take 4-5 ibuprofen before I go out.
Thanks for all your input guys. Its been ten days and it still hurts. Ice twice a day, range of motion exercises, and Advil. I have to go back to the doc in 4 weeks.
Cortizone worked for me and it has been three years. The doc told me i could be back to him in six months or never. I'm hoping on the never. Good luck
