Loaded my canoe, dragged it through the woods and ...

Thats awesome! Looks like you have a great set up and camp going on there!
What kind of tent is that?
Andorra, Is a small country in southwestern Europe, located in the eastern Pyrenees mountains and bordered by Spain and France.
awesome. I would love that. Nothing is better to collect your thoughts then a long stay in the woods. Thanks for sharing. How long were you out?
It looks like it don't get any better than that.
Very Cool

Mike (did your fingers get cold picking that banjo)
AWESOME!!!!!
Wow--Very cool stuff right there!
Thats as pure as it gets right there. Don't think Jersey has much of an offering for an adventure like that. Awesome pics. Skippy
Great photos and camp. Any boars in that area (and are they in season this time of year)?
Awesome pics, I think that says it all! Looks like a fabulous trip.

You have just inspired me to get out and take an adventure despite the weather!! No reason we have to wait for spring!!
Awesome Pics, they really captured all the feelings and enjoyment of trad bowhunting!

Fred
Totally awesome, thanks for sharing and enjoyed the picks.... :archer:
That is very cool! I think I am going to have to try out my new (to me) snowshoes now... I am inspired! Thanks for sharing.
PS, I don't think I'll try to wash up in the snow, unless I fall face first.
The tent look kinda lika a 'Lavvo', a traditional Sami tent.. At least shape-wise :)
Looks like a beautiful trip you had Daniel!
Keep fishing with style ^^

What an absolutely beautiful place! You're very lucky to have access to it, and good for you to get out there in it. Thanks for sharing with us.
Those pictures were truly enjoyable, and I will be daydreaming about that for awhile. Thank you very much for sharing.
Daniel, How about some info on your tent, that looks great
Beautiful area, nice pitures. Here in the SouthEast hunting buddies frown on the whole "Banjo in the woods" thing though.. :) J/K
Good Hunting and Keep'em Sharp..........
Neat pics!
Washing your face with snow is dedication!

Now I feel even worse about how much time I have spent inside this winter. You have inspired me to get out there!! Thsnks
A beautiful winter camp. Looks like a great time. Very nice pics!
Daniel, what a trip that must have been, and thanks for taking us along. The closest I'll get to that down here in Texas is if I sit next to the TV while I watch the Winter Olympics! John
Very cool! I would love to do a backcountry hunt/camp like that someday. Great pics!!
What everyone says, and more. Thanks for sharing very inspiring to me.
They almost tell a story, don't they? Great pics. Daniel, what bow are you shooting?
Man that gets the juices flowin' !!! I have not Winter camped in a long while. Maybe I need to.
That is dedication I like to see. Awesome pics.

Beautiful pics man. And, I don't think I could have dragged that canoe loaded through all that snow either. Ha Ha Simply awesome man. :banghead:
Nice work man! reminds me of my late bow season camp in northern MI. LOVE IT!!! :campfire: :campfire:
That was great. Makes me feel like a wimp when we get a little snow or cold and the wood stove seems like the place to be.
Thanks!!
Daniel, great pictures. When are you going to have some more for Youtube?
Coolest pictures I have ever seen!!!!
Great photo`s indeed!!!
Winter camping is great. The only problem is carrying enough food. I have done it, and found all I do is eat, and get ready to eat again.
No better place to hear yourself think, than beside a campfire during twilight in the winter.
This has gotten alot of us thinking. That`s a good thing. Thanks from Michigan, U.S.A, to Andorra.
Very cool
Any more pictures? What a great adventure!
Super cool pictures though I have to admit the banjo made me giggle just a little. :D
Makes me want to go camping.
Daniel, If you would, can you tell us a bit about your country. The pictures are awesome. Wish I could join you.
Winter camping is very different to me than warm weather camping. It is much more lonesome, as there is less noise, less wildlife activity, and few fellow campers, but it gives you time to sit and see into yourself.
Thanks for your photos
ChuckC
Very nice, thanks
Trying to answer some questions.
First I wanna thank you Tradgangers for enjoying those pics.
I was out there for nearly a week, and let me tell you, It was great.
Temperature was 15 degrees below zero the first 2 days, then it "warmed up" to around 8 below zero.
Going out on a bowhunting trip, sitting at the campfire, listening to the sound of nature takes me right back to my ancestors ..... and it makes me feel at home.
I think that you folks really do understand what I am talking about.
Even if I could inspire only one of you, it was well worth doing the trip.
As for the tent:
It weighs approximately 28 kilogram. Height is 2.5 meters and diameters is 4 meters.
It is a single pole canvas tent with no floor. I don`t like floored tents at all (talking about winter camping here), because I do not want to take my boots off every time I walk inside.
I just put a tarp on the ground where my sleeping area would be.
I jump in my bivi bag, lay myself on the floor and roll around in a circle, to flatten the snow ( it will give you some extra insulation ).
It takes about 20 minutes to set it up.
Who made the pictures ?
A tripod and a camera with a self-timer function is all you need.
If some of you Tradgangers ever make it over here, make sure you give me a shout.
Happy trails to all of you.
Daniel
PS: PLEASE !!! No more talking about DELIVERANCE, otherwise I will not have a single calm night anymore out there.
Not to worry about Deliverance...."they" made it safe now....even had the Olympics on that river :D
Aside from the beauty and enjoyment of the trip...what were you able to hunt?
Never had a desire to go to YURP, but I'm thinking that maybe it ain't all bad.
Thank you for the adventure.... :wavey: :campfire: :clapper:
Life is good!!! Thank-you.
Leland
Daniel,
What a wonderful story in pictures! Thank you for sharing them. What precautions do you take when doing a winter float. I would not want to see anyone led to do this with a cavalier attidude about never getting wet, or the dangers associated with that possibility. That said, I admire your sense of adventure, and look forward to seeing more of them.
great story and pictures

Thank you for remembering. Safety first !!
I should have been mentioning this in the beginning of that thread.
Sorry for that.
I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND WINTER CANOEING TO INEXPERIENCED PEOPLE !!!!
Here are some of the precautions that I take:
Always let others know, where are you going, and time of return.
Use flotation bags.
Life jacket.
Extra paddle tied in.
I always wear a wet suit underneath (a dry suit would be better though) .
Everything will be stored in dry bags.
I also wear a little dry bag directly on my body that contains my mobile phone and a magnesium fire starting tool.
If you ever plan to do a trip like this, make sure, you get prepared as much as you can.
Be save.
Daniel
Just go out and do it. Great!
I really like the tent and with no floor in the winter makes a lot of sense. Its pretty heavy though 28kgs?

A great outlook
a lot of people still have the spirit of adventure but very very few actually get out there and get it done... Pursue what they Dream. I to hope you have inspired someone
i todays world we'r in a nanny state, and safety does come first but dont let safety concerns, risks and dangers stop you, you plan and prepare to prevent those dangers and you must be prepared to deal with them, when (not if) they arise. They are part of the challenge and they are part of the adventure. Everything great comes at a risk and a cost.
Would be great to share camp some time Daniel
thanks again for the great pics :wavey:

Where are you located ?
Greetings from Europe
Daniel
Im in the UK right now
im here until May
So your trip was in the Pyrenees? I used to hike Harney peak in South Dakota quite a bit. I was always told it was the highest elevation between the Rockie & Pyrenees mountains.
Great pics...makes you want to be there
hey man thank you very much for showing the pics that looks mighty cold over there to cold for my bones. :campfire: :D
Fantastic pics, what an adventure. I love the fact you went out there alone. Very Cool! So many of us nowadays stray away from certain adventures due to inexperience and fear. Thank you for the inspiration. The only way to get experience is to get out there and risk it a tad bit. Thanks Daniel, T
Daniel, First off - thanks for the pictures and story. They are great.
So what did you hunt? I am guessing some sort of hare or rabbit, but ...
Thanks for sharing that! WOW. Probably won't be long before those are on the ski slopes!!!LOL
bad to the bone.
Thats totally awesome even if you weren't hunten. :campfire:
that is very nice, what all r you able to hunt there with a bow? Im originally from denmark and they only let you shoot smaller game with a bow.

I did`nt. bring any BH with me (I know you should not walk into the woods without them).
Just grabbed 3 of my "BUSHWHACKERS", in case if some squirrels trying to steal my chocolate bars.
Also thought about a rabbit stew.
Most of the time I was just roving around and did some stumping.
It was good for body and mind.
Happy trails
Daniel
Beautiful scenery! I believe you would like finnish landskape too. Have you ever visited in Finland? Thousands of lakes and lots of woods. I have been thinking several years to purchase a canoe, but never had money for that. But someday i will. Here it would be useful "vehicle".
Yup I think you would love the Yukon alright. Plenty of outdoors here...no fences....you might have some wolves visit you but they might just be curious and of course the camp robbers would be there (whiskey jacks)....
Tough with a canoe though 3-5 feet of ice would be tough to get her started. You would have to wear that wetsuit in the summer here...water doesn't warm up much.
Great pics - love the country and how you set camp. Soon as i get my wing back (my arm) I will be heading out camping too. It's a bugger right now cause just chopping wood is a strain on her.
I am doing my exercises like you said so I am in hopes she will be strong again soon.
Cheers and thanks for keeping us all dreaming of a charmed life.
Jer Bear
very nice pictures and nice scenery mike
That looks so peaceful. Calms the soul just to look at the pictures much less live the experience.
Keep taking the great pictures and taking us along.
Tim
DEATHMASTER
Way to go, man. The only way to find ourselves is to test, and see how far we can go.
Killdeer :)
Thank you for sharing your camp experience with us.
Absolutely awesome pictures!!!
This is the kind of thread I love to read on TG! I truly appreciate the time and energy it took to get all the pics and then get them on TG.
