Was looking for the harvest post and could not find it. If mods see fit to move it, no problem.
The one game animal that drive me the most crazy is the wild turkey. They have been out looking for food in the field behind my house since Christmas day. That means I have been searching in snowdrifts for my arrows that missed turkeys since Christmas day. In the winter they never stop running. It is like trying to hit a bowling ball going down the lane. I have putt more woodsman tipped arrows through turkeys tails then I care to admit. Finaly the day beore archery season was to close, I saw a mean old bearded hen on the hill. She was with 2 other small hens. I knew they normally travel in a larger flock so I thought maybe they had gotten busted up. I grabbed my Maddog recurve and my call and ran to my ambush spot. I called to the hen hoping she would think I was one of her lost mates. That hen came at me in a full out run. I almost did not have the time to grab my bow. Finaly I had redemtion! 15 yard shot with a Maddog Midsize recurve. 40# at my tiny 23" draw. Woodsman tipped 1716 easton arrow with 21.7% FOC ripped straight through her. She had an 8" beard. We ate her the next day and she was awesome! Season has come to an end here in Iowa. I had a great year. Filled 2 doe tags and a bird. Another month for the tree rats then on to bunnies. But now, it is time for me to grab the metal detector and start hunting for lost arrows ;^)

Hey! Nice quiver in that pic! Glad to see it's being put to good use. Congrats on your turkey!
-Jeremy "your trad-blanket pal"
-
Thanks everyone.
Jeremy- I got to put some mojo on your trade!
Ron-I did not butcher her with the hawk. I do use that hawk for everything else. Love it. I would never scout, hunt or hang a stand without it! I can trim branches then hammer the stand, cover, pegs, etc in with the back of the head. Geat tool. Have finished off many a bunny with the back end of the head as well! Thanks to my Tradgang friends for gifting it to me!

Awesome stuff Katie, I've been trying to get my Katie (10 year old daughter) interested in hunting. I showed her your harvest last night. She stood there with a grin on her face and finally said "That's cool". Then an hour or so later while we were sitting on the couch watching tv she asked when was I going to take her hunting. Thanks for inspiring her.

Hope this shows our lovely lady better. I tried to lighten the photo....white backgrounds are terrible if you don't use fill flash Katie. This should give us a better look.

Good Hunting Katie! I did not even know we had a late bow season. In years past we had to quit with the gun hunters in early December. Now we get a Mulligan for the last three weeks. Thanks for sharing.

Almost missed this one, Good going Katie! (Are your deer photos posed somewhere too?)
-
Great bird Prairie Drifter! Love the Maddogs!
Steve H.- No I did not post the deer pics. One was early season with my Kanati longbow. It was a button buck(doe tag). Thought it was a doe at the time. Did not notice till I fliped him over to gut him :^) The other can't be posted because it was a black powder harvest. My 1st ever.
-
Congrats on your bird and deer kills Katie. Have you hunted them in the Spring? If ya haven't, it's a blast!
-
I have sure tried to hunt them in the spring! Not much luck. Always within gun range, never within bow range. I always get the archery only tag so I can huny the whole season. Are you comming to the SE Iowa bunny hunt?
-
Congrats! Great job, and payback feels awesome (I have a few lost arrows I am looking to redeem in a turkey this spring).
-
George beat me to it, but here is my offering in the adjustment category:

Can't make the bunny hunt. I know what ya mean about gun range birds. I've had pretty good luck with the Tom deeks they have out now. If ya ad a little spin movement to them, even better.
-
Superb hunting and shooting Katie. You are a great role model for lady trad bow hunters. Thanks for the story and picture.
