Going to my first 3D shoot this weekend. How many arrows should I bring along? never been, don't know what to expect.
Thanks
Brad
You only shoot 1 arrow at each target, so if you never miss you'll only need one!!! But if you miss there is a good chance you'll loose an arrow because most targets dont have a backstop behind them. I aint never went with just one.
i usually carry 5 or 6, but i went to a shoot on the va/nc border this past summer and was out by target #9..... long story.
most shoots are set up fairly well so if you do miss one they can usually be found..
Rb
peachy you going to sherwood this weekend?
if I bring 5, I run out, if I bring 12, I never loose one, maybe 8 is the number.
depends on how good of a shot you are. i usally bring my bow with the quiver on it. it holds 4 and i rarely need more than 1 or 2.
about 10 years ago, i walked off a 3d course with no arrows left!! that was embarrasing!!
gaff
take at least 6 on the range, but bring more with you and leave in truck, if it rains you will have some dry arrows for the second round after lunch. I usually take 5 or 6 and use a side quiver (cheap tube type) I also carry a arrow digger with me, not because I have missed.. but to help the others that miss and are looking for their arrows..good luck at the shoot
Better to have em and not need em than to need em and not have em....take a bunch and enjoy the shoot!
Brad, are you coming to the TBOF shoot in March? its gonna be a good one, bring at least a dozen arrows with you..
I generally carry 6 sometimes 8.
Have never lost one,(doesn't mean I've never missed) Normally I'll end up with a feather or 2 missing do to vines or branches. So it always pays to have extras.
Generally bring 2 or 3 dozen to the shoot, but then I also shoot in different classes which require different types of arrows.
If your not confident with your shooting, leave the score card alone and scoot up till your sure of yourself. Then 5 or 6 arrows will be plenty. You dont have to keep score. Have fun with it, its great practice. Mark
Thanks guys, As soon as I posted this I had the thought that you probably only shot once at each target and if I didn't miss..... (yeah right)
I'll bring my side quiver and keep extras in the car.....
I'll look into the TBOF shoot. Might be able to slip up that way.
Thanks again
Brad
I bring 9, incase they get lost or broken.
For most shoots, I take a dozen. For the Moses Lake Rock Shoot, I take at least two dozen. I'm getting to be a better shot. Last year I only lost two (one lost, one bent, actually)... But I'll still take 'em all... could have a bad day. 8^)
Out here, most of our trad shoots are pretty loose. You shoot all you want, whenever you want and over two or three days, I'll usually shoot at least six rounds, sometimes eight. My standard for a good shoot is if I can't wave my arms and can barely walk when it's done. Sure ain't gonna drive a ways, set up a camp and have any chance of running out.
I take 3 that way I really have to concentrate on my shots. I usually use my stumping arrows too. :bigsmyl:
Brad,
Try and make the TBOF shoot. I'll be there from early Friday till it ends on Sunday.
Look forward to meeting you!
I'll have a table there for PBS, trying to increase the Florida membership numbers.
from 6 to 8 but if it rains better to protect the spare ones.
Typically, I use my backquiver with a dozen arrows and carry my bow without one (this could vary towards fall). This gives me plenty for arrows for warm-up on practice butts. Also, the backquiver makes a good depository for found arrows and for friends' arrows that get injured, which usually take a trip to my house, anyhow.
Without the backquiver option, I'd go along with carryin' a half dozen and keepin' spares in your vehicle. Have Fun, Rick.
LOL, I remember when my sole goal was to come home with a few of the arrows that I took to a shoot! Take a dozen and carry half that. They ain't cheap, but they make them every day!
Come see us at TBOF!
I take 3 for each bow while on the range.I usually carry more for the practice butts to cut down on waiting to pull arrows.I carry 3 because sometimes we have muliple shots from the same stake.Except for that I only use one arrow when shooting a course.I seldom lose or break an arrow unless shooting a toughman course but you never know so I will always carry at least two on any range. :)
I take a doz to the shoot. Put 5 in the quiver and leave the rest in the car.
I have taken to carrying six, and most of the time will only need one or two. (Yep I do miss)
I have seen some come in at the halfway mark and get out the plastic money and stop at the arrow vendor who gladly sells another 1/2 doz, for the rest of the course.
I carry enough in the truck to have a matching set for each bow. arrrrrrrrrhg.
MM
I take a dozen for the trip, and carry 6 around with me. Normally break or bend one or two on metal targets or a bad shot that hits a rock.
Metal Targets???---carry a couple of old not so good arrows to spend on those targets.
Flying Targets???--may need a flu-flu or 2 depending on shoot.
Generally we shoot 2 arrows at each target so carrying 6 arrows plus a few of above if needed. Some shoots really eat up arrows, so I always have backups in the truck. 3-D's are a blast to do year round to keep you in tune.
I carry a whole bunch. That way, after I've lost or broken a few, my quiver still looks full and I look like I'm a good shot :)
4 arrows will do just fine
Depends on how many you plan on losin. 8^)
3D shoots are why they made back quivers! They way I shoot her in rocky RI it's a dozen minimum!
Jeff only needs 4 arrows..I've lost 13!!!arrows on one 3d shoot before...its your first 3d shoot?? I'd bring a dozen..but remember..one shot at a time and you already know you can hit it... :scared:
Shawn...
Thanks again folks! I'll take an even dozen with me and fill up my quiver. If I lose a dozen I need to go back to the house. :scared:
I've shot on this range before on thier field coarse on an informal night this past summer. Its a pretty decent range as far as arrow recoverability( that a word?) I've just never shot a 3D course before.
Thinking now that hunting season is over I will give it a try and see how I like it. Sure couldn't hurt my shooting to spend some time shooting with other folks with some more experience.
Greg/Bowana I will try and make the TBOF shoot for sure. May come up and shoot saturday and paddle the Ocklawaha or Juniper sunday or monday.
Thanks again folks!
Brad
A quiver full does me.Usually 5-6 arrows.
On a side note,I say leave the score cards alone.I think it's more fun to go with a group and just shoot and have fun than get wrapped up in scores. Not saying anything bad about scores at all, sometimes I like to know what I shoot.
The most fun I had on a 3D shoot was the last one of the year last year.Me and Vermonster were the only trad guys there. The other boys had gone to a different shoot, plus it was in the morning, looking like rain, and no many others were there. We walked the course and shot as much as we wanted at all the targets and got our money's worth instead of just one arrow.Man that was great!
That depends on you!!!!!!! :goldtooth:
I usualy bring three or four depending on which quiver I use.
I always take all my arrows, but only carry four with me.
I have found I'll shoot better if I carry only one. It's worked out so far but I bet there'll come a day...lol
God bless,Mudd
I usually have six in my plains style quiver, and another 6 in camp. Most I've ever lost or broken during a single round is three. Remember, some shoots are tough on arrows, others are not. The more undergrowth, rocks, lakes, elevation changes, moving targets, etc. the greater the opportunity to lose arrows one way or another. Course some folks think that is what makes 3-d shoots fun. Enjoy.
I carry 4-5
take a bunch. Only need one if... everything goes as planed.. but you may pull an insert or brake a nock or mmmmmmmmmmmmiss. Have fun. wish I was going with you,, Joe
Take as many as you can,and if they ask why you have so many tell them you have a bad habit of splitting them(like robin hood)and look at them with one eye closed.
I went to one of Big Jim's shoots,it was a riot lost about a dozen arrows, but had a lot of fun trying impossible shots the good thing was I could just buy more from him.
It,s a mojo thing.the more arrows you carry, the less you lose
I take 6. Never lost any but have damaged a couple on a shoot.
I take 3 arrows in a pocket quiver
some times there are 2 target at one stake .I have been doing this for 20 years. when I first stared I took 10 in my back quiver.Just remember if you find any lost arrows on the course turn them in at the culb house.
I take 5 but I broke 4 at league last night as the floor is concrete and there were some ridiculous shots.
Take 3 more than you think you need just so you don't ruin your shoot by either having to buy arrows or just quitting.
I take 4 in my quiver and a few in the truck for backup.
I carry 4 with me and keep a couple extras in the car. I generally shoot from 15 to 20 yards at the small to mid size targets and 25 to 30 at the elk, mule deer, and moose targets.
Most of our 3-D shoots are set up for compound, so I don't ever shoot from the stake in the ground, because I just don't shoot the distances that they have the targets set from the stakes like 80 yards on the moose and 70 on the bull elk.
I have a Hill style back quiver and I fill that baby up,always a few flu-flus to.
Take plenty. Think of it as if your paying for your education. If you break or can't find a few, don't worry about it. Your getting educated and you will do better next time. It's money well spent.
I usually take 4. most times I come back home with 4. all total last year I think I lost 2 arrows out of a dozen shoots.
Sometimes there are multiple targets at a single station. Sometimes you lose an arrow. Take 6. If you're there for more than one day do what that other fella said and take 6 and have 6 more in the truck.
If you are starting out bring 12 at least don't get to attached to those arrows as they may get lost till you get the hang of 3d some arrows you don't find will be brought back by other archers . go as close to the targets as you have to so you won't loose as many arrows and get discourged ,, good luck!
