Title: ILF limb construction Pro's - Con's
Post by: fixer on January 13, 2010, 03:35:00 PM
I have been looking at ILF limbs, some with standard glass and wood lay up, then glass wood and carbon, then glass foam and carbon. Other than the obvious price difference, is there that much difference in performance to warrent the price difference. I have a couple of bows with carbon and I don't see much difference but I don't have a chronograph to check. Any input would be appreciated.

Sid at Border told me that for $100 more I could  have foam limbs and would gain maybe 2 fps. I'm trying his carbon/wood HEX5's and when I get them I'll tell you what I think. Currently I am shooting Winex limbs which are Carbon/Foam. Best limbs I have ever shot. We'll see how the HEX5's compare.

Bill, I think you will like the HEX5s.  They are quite a limb.  I got to test and shoot them when Rusty brought all of his out last month.

By far the best set of limbs in the bunch.  But the Win Win limbs that were a bunch cheaper were my second favorite.

We just glued our second prototype curve limb up today.  Looking forward to putting them through the paces.

I've got Samick Masters...which are carbon/wood...Samick Extreme BF's...which are carbon/foam...and WinEx...which are carbon/foam.  I don't own, but have shot several glass/wood and carbon/wood limbs from Samick.  On the top of the line limbs, the carbon/wood are not quite as smooth, but are a few feet per second faster.  I think the consistency from limb to limb is better with carbon/foam due to the removal of the difference in wood densities.

Bottom line...blindfold a guy and tell him to shoot them all and tell the difference...he probably can't because they're almost all good.

Foam core with carbon should be faster than glass/wood since they have less mass, although the difference is not earth shattering. Also certain carbon layers can add to limb stability. Only you can decide if the price is worth it.

I have found I can sometimes go a few pounds lighter with the high tech limbs than entry level, and so I use them for this reason.
