This is an awesome opportunity guys! If you've ever wanted to learn to build bows but feel like you need some guidance, Teds the guy.
You get to build your own bow, hunt lots of bears, see lots of wolves, and get to eat some of Gary's smoked SPAM. :readit: I'd go for the SPAM alone but the bows, bears, and comaradrie are second to none. CK
Thanks for the kind words Curtis, Smoked Spam Ah yes forgot about that, true redneck when you smoke a chunk of spam , funny that did taste good. That was the first time Gary ever blessed us with that idea. He got a new smoker this year so who knows what he will come up with. I was more interested in the prime rib steaks I barbQ the last dayand all the sausage , bacon and sourdough pancakes to tank up on at breakfast yum!I think the only guy that looses weight on these trips are Gary and I.
I have a bunch of king salmon in the smoker right now, but the way my family goes through that it wont last till next week.
Hey Ted, lets see some bear pics!!!!!

Thanks for the memories guys.
One of the best hunts I've been on!!!
That cute fellow on the 4 wheeler looks kinda familiar. :bigsmyl:
Nice looking bears fellows. Awesome looking bows as well!!!!
Man if that don't look like tons of fun, thanks for putting up the pics guys. nice bears!! :notworthy:
All pms sent back , best if you call however as I talk better than I type for answering so many questions, loads if interest now we need some to step up. Some have asked us to do a fall bearhunt/ bowbuild , so if we get enough interest I will gladly add that to our schedule, say the second week of Sept. For now lets fill this one up.
Thanks for the picks Curtis and Paul, I figured that pic of big black would get you to show your head Paul.
(http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/photos4work/PIC_0007.jpg)Heres one that got away , beautiful blonde that none of our hunters got that year, those scratches on that tree are about 6 feet up. Most of the guys know this bait as "Angy Sow" ya gotta come to camp to hear that story!
Still my personal best Ted :) although I've been feeding one a mite bigger on one of my baits the last two years.
Good luck this year!!
Got a great deal for the first guy to sign up, one of the guys that has a deposit on hand had a last minute conflict this last season and had to cancel , seems he cant make those dates this year either, so , whoever calls first saves $500.00 off the cost of the trip, Id like to get him some consolation money rather than have him eat the loss.
Looks like good fun. Nice pics.
Ted
It was a pleasure talking to you today Sir, and really wish I could make it this year! After talking with you about the hunt it is one I will start saving for TODAY!!!
Up to the top for a what sounds like a hunt of a lifetime!
Looks like fun
I enjoyed as well Jake, hope you and your father can make it , you will not regret going on this hunt.
Heres a picture of one of my favorite spots in the valley (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/photos4work/100_1467.jpg)
And another (http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x295/photos4work/weitas.jpg)
Dang I would like to make that hunt.
Yeah Tommy , would love to have you , seems its your turn to run the camera after me doing it for you in Quebec, I will not soon forget that hunt and your perfect shot with a stone tipped wild rose arrow of mine, now that I mention that you still owe me an arrow buddy!
A few have contacted me about next year , yes God willing we will still be doing it next year, not a bad idea to book now and nail down a spot for 2011, if there is enough response we will do two different hunt/bowbuild groups.
Remember we are planning a bowbuild/ bearhunt in early Sept this year as well, feel free to contact me on any of this.
One more run at the top
I know you guys are probably tired of seeing this but I really would like a bunch of the Trad Gang family to join in on this hunt /class, so bear with me ( pun intended) .
Thanks
Ted,
Any spots open?
Rick , sorry I didnt see this post, glad to hear you will be joining Gary this spring again.
Yes by the way there are still openings both for the bow class/ bear hunt as well as the bear hunting only. GREAT news for those that can fit it in on short notice ,to fill in open spots , Gary has reduced the price of the bear hunts for two bears to $1700.00 , this will also bring the price of the Bow build/ bearhunt down to $2250.00
But you need to move now! No PMs just calls ( I dont always check TradGang) 541-386-4503
Back at the top!
Getting a load of interest in 2011 so it would not be a bad idea to think about stepping up for the spring or fall of 2011 a little early this year.
If there is enough interest for the spring hunt bow build for 2011 we will probably add a week to make two different weeks of bow building and bear hunting.
Yeah Ted,
I am looking forward to huting with Gary again this spring. I have been other places, but his is the most beautiful area I have hunted.
Is this the same hunt that the Backland guys were on? Saw the show, Looked great! Not sure i've got the talent to build a bow,(I leave that to the guys that do it)But man i love bear hunting and guiding! Good luck.
Maine guide
Ted, I am looking forward to meeting you and Gary next month for the Bear Hunt/Bow Build. It's getting more difficult to go to work every day as a desk jockey and not catch myself day dreaming of this hunt.
Mikel
maine guide - YEP!
TTT for a great opportunity.
Tony , everyone has the talent to build a bow , just takes being shown.
Mike , same back , look forward to hunting and being
in the Weitas again
wish i lived a little closer.far drive from louisiana
You are a lot closer than Krister who came all the way from Norway last year Charles.
They also have this new thing called a jet, show up in Lewiston Idaho and we pick you up and shuttle to the trail head , then the fun starts , right guys?
That is one of the good things about Gary and Sue's operation, they will pick you up and return you to the Lewiston airport (2 hours or so) for no extra charge. A lot of outfitters charge extra for this service or expect you to rent a vehicle to get to the trialhead.
Any stories from this trip yet? Look forward to hearing them soon...
was wondering myself
Sorry guys , didnt happen , only one guy stepped up to join us , I understand however , things are tough all over.
I am planning again for next spring and have one guy signed up already, wouldnt mind doing a fall session as well so if your interested give me a shout, fall bears in the high mountain huckleberries and bow building
Guys there is still a chance that we could do just the bear hunt in Sept if we get at least 4 hunters.
Ted, I am definetly interested in a Sept. bear hunt!
:saywhat: Don't rush me,I'm thinking. See the smoke.
I'll be calling you next week Ted. Going away for the holiday.
Holy smokes, did I read that right and this is a 2-bear hunt?
Yes , this part of Idaho has a reduced bear tag price and you can purchase two tags, tags and license at about $200.00 for two bears and non resident as well. We are trying to get a group together for just hunting , no bow building as I would like to hunt as well.
How's the trout fishing in the area? I may be interested in something like this... Are you spotting and stalking in the springtime or sitting over baits?
Kevin.
Nonresident hunting licenses are $ 154.75. Bear tags are- $31.75 each. Idaho sales tax is $90.00 and the USFS Use Fee is $45.00.
A 50% deposit is required. Add airfare and hunt fee plus incidentals. Mileage may vary.....
