Title: Should I purchase this bow?
Post by: cbushee on January 13, 2010, 10:25:00 AM
List your email and I'll forward it to you experts. It is a premade mad dog bow from a man on ***********. My only concern is it is a bit short at 54". My dl may be 28+. I will have to get it measured. Thanks for your understanding with a beginner.

I wouldn't bother e-mailing me any specifics because I'm going to vote "buy it" no matter what kind/make/model/brand of bow it turns out to be just because.... Why should I be the only one who gets into trouble for buying another bow. I can also point out to my wife that there are lots of other guys who get to buy bows and here's a fine example. I did not read once in the 1st post anything about getting the wife's' permission, He just asked us our opinion.... mine is yes!
God bless,Mudd

I have a 54" Prowler by Mike, and it shoots great out to a 30" draw. No pinch, and easy to make quiet. Shoots 3555 GT's with a 100 gr tip very fast.

Will do and I'm 14,so I get permission from parents not wife. I wasn't going to buy my own custom because I wanted to get started and it takes 3 months. The bows he makes are gorgeous though. This man has a great deal: 200 and it includes shipping. The bow looks fantastic.

Sounds good to me friend.  A lot of us folks used 52" bows back in the 60's when folks didn't know they were too short 8^).  We did very well with them.

You can always re-sell it if you don't like it, for that price. You don't have anything to lose.

The man selling it is Richard Wiltanger. Does anyone have experience with him? He's throwing in beginner items like arrows and extra strings. Thanks for the help.

I would still call Mad Dog.   I'm sure the bow is good, because I've never heard of him building otherwise.  However, he has built a lot of kid's bows.  It was his specialty earlier on, and at that length, this might be a youth bow he build that is not tillered for as long a draw as you have.

It's the prowler 2. I'm purchasing the bow with many extras he threw in for free. I'm using paypal and I'm ordering a little after Saturday because I sold something to a friend and will receive the full payment then. Any suggestions by then? He ironically said that he will throw in a dozen or so arrows of the kind that the person here mentioned. I have an archery shop close by so I can buy accessories from there. The man who owns the shop is a traditionalist and makes very nice bows. All I think I need is a quiver and a stringer. I ordered previously a 45# longbow from 3 rivers archery that was 120$ but out of my league and not a beginner bow but I believe I still have the accessories like gloves and etc. Thank you for your help with my first bow.

I can't remember what I sold Richard other than a prowler II.  If he's letting it go for $200 it's a good deal though.

Buy it.  I have dealt with Richard before.  I bought a set of Schafer limbs from him.  Great guy to deal with.  Sounds like he is giving you a bunch of freebies.  Why are you hesitating?  Freebies are good!

I'm not, he lives nearby and he saw this thread. He's being so nice as to let me shoot it and then I can buy it. Great guy.
