Have you ever regretted selling or trading a particular bow and wish that you could have gotten it back. Tell us about it.
Just one and it hurts too much to talk about.
Why did you have to remind me!!! I hate to admit it, but I sold my beautiful Shrew CH and have been beating myself up over it ever since. I didn't give myself enough time with it... after waiting a year for it. When I was packaging it up for shipping it felt like I was burying my dog!!!! Maybe I should give Ron La Clair a call soon.
Yep my 64in ACS but i plan on ordering another with the 16in riser and a little heavier.
My ony regret to date is that the sight window on my ex-H56, Little Mo, was too short for my shooting style. I absolutely loved that little bow, just couldn't shoot it w/o radically changing my style & anchor point. So being I sold it...
Yep......I sure did. I had a one-piece Hummingbird Alpha Male that I sold to "Big Striper" up in Michigan. Beautiful bow, that I shot VERY WELL. I know that he is as happy with it as I was.
Oh well.....I will own another one, it's on my "to own" list.
Winterhawk1960
Ohh yes. A PTFII
Oh ya! A Toelke Whip I owned for a short time, oh and a special little Kanati...
Funny timing with this thread, contemplating selling my 56" great northern super ghost to offset the cost of my new to me shrew. the voices in my head are telling me i will regret it if i do and to find a way to keep them both.
pcappy08......better listen to those "voices"
Winterhawk1960
The 1st Whip that Dan Toelke made me, a dark black/red Cocobolo riser with dark highly figured Zebrawood veneers. Short story is I got stupid and sold it and have regretted it ever since. I have ended up with one Whip and the Lion's share of my shooting is with Dan's D bows and I have a very special one coming soon but I still miss that 1st Whip.
There is none that I fret over but there are a few I shot well and should have kept. One that comes to mind was a Northern Mist Superior longbow, bamboo limbs...may be the best longbow I ever owned.
Yep a 21 century nova that had been reworked by Jeff Massey and had his finish on it...
Yep my first Bear A mag I sold in the late 70's or early 80's.
My first Dale Stahl T/D recurve. I bought it used and shot it for quite awhile, for me. It was sort of plain jane compared to some of the other Dale Stahl bows I've owned. It had a Bubinga riser with a gray action arch stripe down the center of the riser. The limbs were red elm. the bow was, and still is, a phenomenal shooter.
I sold it to the owner of The Archery Shop. I've tried to buy it back from him dozens of times over the past 6 years or so and he just laughs at me. I also sold my first Crow Creek Black Feather longbow to him and he still has it. He killed a fox with it the last weekend of our deer season at 25 yards.
Bill
No, but I got a Bob Lee Sig Recurve that I should sell, because we need the $, but can't get myself to do it.
Yes, and I have pictures of 2 out of 3.
My first real hunting bow, a new 1967 Bear Grizzly with which I killed my first deer. I traded it in on a Root Gamemaster which I wish I still had but don't have a picture of it.
The next was a 1972 Super Diablo I traded for a Colt pistol at a New Year's Eve party.
some of my Schafers and widows
Almost sold my 1st hunting LB (Proline Saxon 68" & 75#@28") a few times. Bow is 30+ years old & shoots just as good as the day I bought it. Lately, discovered its maker, quality & value & that it is a first from Proline. Whew! Happy endings.
oh yeah.lets see,2 treadways,a blackcreek,a widow,2 rer arroyos(luckily i traded for another)a griffin(must've been drinking when i traded that one).a real sweet crow creek blackfeather.
ummm, there's a few more but these are the ones that usually bring me to tears. :help:
Yep, this one! Anyone seen it? She is a 58" Ghost, and she draws 49@28. Osage on coco.

Sold a Spririt II longbow from Renegade archery.
Been looking for a longbow that shoots just like that one but never found it.
I shoot recurves but that longbow did it for me.
'60 Kodiak Special...wouldn't be so bad, but I reserved it too cheap, and the buyer told me right after the fact that he expected to pay way more (it was on ****).
58" morrison cheyenne 54# absolute rocket launcher shot a 2216 with 125 gr point on a line out to 40 yds,i remember having the same sight picture out to 30 yds and it would hit very close at 40 yds!
and a Jack smith blackhawk longbow it just shot good for me too1
My 1969 Bear Super Kodiak, 60", 49# @ 28", and it had a built in site. I was mistaken in believing it was too old to shoot.
Funny how it works sometimes. I bought my first Bear from a guy, and I learned to shoot with it.
I then traded it back to the same guy, and I always regretted it.
My chance came around again, and I bought it back. It sits on my wall now, and will stay there. You never know.
Not yet - I sold my compound and was glad to get rid of it. Sold my Bob lee 60# recurve 3 piece 64" and it went to a great home but I wanted to try a longbow.
Sold my SHrew 56" 58# just past few days - loved it, but want to try some others before I settle on one.
I have a ACS CX 62" for sale right now cause I want shorter limbs of the same model and I shoot great with it.
I think we all are different and we all suit a certain bow....Some ppl swear by a certain bow - well I think that bow fits them...just like pants or shoes kinda.
I feel I shoot with the ACS the best..dunno why just do...does that make someone else bow inferior absolutely NOT..just might not suit me is all.
Anyway I am anxiuos to sell my ACS which is a great bow - i have just found with the type of hunting I do I like shorter limbs that's why I loved the Shrew while I had her.
Jer Bear
Yep, Elkridge Pilgrim Two, short bow, around 55# osage limbs and wenge/osage riser. Sure wish I could find that bow again, no longer made.m Only one they made like that. 64" one piece O.L. Adcock ACS longbow, cocobolo dymondwood riser, one of the very first made serial #9 or 10 I think,72#@27" , "Yannashchito" would not mind having that one back either.
No,because every year I become wiser and I buy better bows.
Sold a 60" Lone Wolf "Autumn Storm" I bought off TradGang a few years ago, to the cousin of a friend who wanted a short LB as a backup. It quickly became his go to bow. I looked for a replacement for over three year before finding one just before the past hunting season. I expect it will get plenty of use in 2010. One thing for sure, it will not be going up for sale.
yes, sold my northwind gem to pay some vet bills & tracked it down a few months later & traded it back from a kind gentleman on here who understood I needed it back. Mike
yea - me too. Actually a couple of them. I can't talk about..........
I sold my 3 piece pronghorn a few years back and still shake my head. The only good thing about getting rid of it was that I learned I was a little overbowed with it, and it gives me a reason to buy another one someday. I can't wait, Herb makes a great bow.
I sold my Bob Lee recurve to a friend who wanted to get into traditional archery. A co-worker of mine ended up with it a couple years later and i told him i would love to buy it back. When he brought it to show me i could tell the limbs were twisted, he told me there was nothing wrong with it and tried to string it and the limb split in pieces. Decided i didnt want it back after all.
traded my 60 pound mahaska zebra and southwest cedar flatbow for a wing then had to sell the wing to pay some bills..i miss that mahaska
Now why would someone sell their beloved bow, unless they were hard up for money (and I don't mean money to buy another bow)? Sometimes people need to buy food ...
Sounds like people here have learned to keep what's near and dear and only sell off the excess baggage. Learning not to get greedy and having to buy the next hot marketing item could cost you more than money. I guess people make the mistake of selling this stuff early so they don't try to sell their kids later even though I'm sure there's moments. LOL
With all that being said who wants to buy my first longbow? I'm thinking about buying a shrew :biglaugh:
A 60" 45# GN Superghost I bought on this site. Was buying and trading to try different bows at the time. Traded it and regretted it ever since. Thought it was too light for me at the time. I know better now that it's too late.
59 Bear Grizzly that was in better condition than I realized, AND I sold it to cheap.
But the worse part is I pulled a tendon in my finger the short time I owned it and never even got a chance to shoot it!
Just about every Hill that I have ever sold and my Billy Rice bow.
NO regrets...I've only borrowed one and owned two bows the last 27 years. I still use the 2nd one I've owned.
I've no regrets, only sold bows which I built to sell. They were built for the buyer, not me.
Other than those, I can honestly say I still have in my possession every bow I have bought over the past 49 years. I think it is 46 or 47 bows now.
But I may soon start selling off some, already got the Permission to list on classifieds. Now just have to get the nerve to actually do it!
Then I'm sure I'll probably have regrets!
Silly as it sounds, I now wish I had the old Blue Bear and Red Bear fiberglass bows I had when I was a kid.
I do have the Herter's Sambar Junior bow that I graduated to after that, bought with my own hard-earned money.
I traded a Massie Longhorn longbow for a Palmer recurve back in 1995 or so and still regret that decision. That longhorn was a shooter. Stupid is as stupid does. :(
Yes sir I had a Robertson that I am pretty sure wherE it is in SD and am trying to buy it back.
The other was a Big River 59 copy with orange glass on the limbs. This was the single bow out of all that I should have never sold. Did not shoot it well but there are very few of these around.
D
I had a Bear custom Kodiak I had to sell when the company I was working at closed it's doors. found out they never paid our unemployment insurance! Whent 7 months with out a pay check I had to sell her to put food on the table for my boys and myself. Gosh I miss that bow
I won't ever have that problem. I promised myself never to sell or trade any of my bows.
I hardly ever sell a bow, so, no worries. Well, maybe that old Kodiak I sold Droptine...
I am looking real hard at my Pilgrim Too right now.
Killdeer
Never have sold a bow, and don't anticipate doing so, so no regrets when it comes to that. But many years ago, when I was thirteen years old, my uncle gave me a very nice hunting recurve for my birthday. I had a lot of fun with that bow and it was my most prized possession. A few years later, though, the bow was stolen. If there are any regrets it is that I didn't manage to hold on to that bow.
But even at that, a couple of years ago I came across a like-new Wing Falcon (Head Ski) recurve manufactured in the early 70's that was very similar to the bow I had as a kid. It even had green limbs like mine did. So while I don't have my original bow, I now have a replacement that is very close to my orginal.
I wish I would have kept my Chek Mate Falcon and my Dan Quillan Bamboo Longhunter. I almost tried to sell my Bear SK but decided I might regret that too. So I've promised myself to keep every bow I get from now on.
Yes, twice! I sold my Super Shrew but had deep regrets while packaging it for shipment. Luckily the buyer understood my dilemma and backed out of the deal with no hard feelings. I made it clear to him that it was his if he insisted on the bow.
I also regretted selling a Griffin (Green Goblin) aka (Death In The Long Grass) twice after buying it back the 1st time. I now have it again and its here to stay.
I have fond memories of my first three recurves, in the 1970's: Pearson Cougar, Bear Grizzly (56"), and Bear Victor Kodiak TD (BMAG). However, they were all RH and I'm a lefty now.
One comes to mind, a Fox High Sierra -- it was the first in fact of about 10 I've bought and sold in the past two years on this site. However, the Fox went to a good home.
Just yesterday I shot two dozen arrows out of my current hunter. When finished shooting I wondered out loud why I keep any bows besides this ONE. Of course I got over that feeling real quick.
Note to self: I will never allow my name to be put on a custom bow again. It is very difficult for me to get rid of such a personalized bow.
64" Silvertip...took the buck in my avatar with it, along with many others. Lots of memories with that bow. Found the bullsnake on my first trip[ to Wyoming. Big medicine it was!
The only one I truely regret gitting rid of was a righthand 58" 44#@28" Mosshorn. I tried tracking it down some time ago and found out that vermonster13 ended up with it and had sent it to a reservation in the north country for the kids to shoot so, dosen't hurt so bad knowing where it is and what it's doing.
I also traded a set of 58" 45@28 Bob Lee longbow limbs once that I still regret everyday.
oh well' live and learn. :archer:
A Bighorn back in the early 90s is the only one I truly want back.
Sold not just one.... but two Kwyk Styks...... just the thought of it makes me tear up a little... =)
Bigriver Hill style bow. The bamboo Miller.
Most of all the longbow that I built for myself when I worked for Mark Horne @ Hornes Archery. It was the older one piece brush bow radical R/D. In the job interview we designed the form. I won the state longbow with that bow in 1999. I wish that one was at the house. Still miss her today. :(
I have had a bunch that I wish I had kept....but on the other hand I have been very fortunate to usually trade up to a better bow or sell a few to get something I have always wanted...like the Silvertip I have now. I have tried to thin the herd but it's not working.....off to the classifieds...lol!
An all cocabola Zipper and a all curly maple Zipper. The sale of those bows caused Bob Thompson to name me LITTLE PRICK!!!!
Just one , but I knew I would be getting it back and I did so it's a wash. Saxon American Longbow. Not to rub it in Chaser but I just scored a Bamboo Longhunter last weekend. It'll never be sold. I don't think any of mine will be sold. Got a grandson coming up who is ate up with trad archery. He'll get 'em all.
Yes, my first custom bow, a Chameleon Shrew Classic Hunter. Beautiful bow! But I didn't really know what I was doing when I ordered it and it was a little too heavy. So I sold it instead of "growing" into it and have regretted it ever since. When I was packaging it up to ship it I felt like I was burying my dog!!! But, the story has a good ending because I just ordered another Classic Hunter. Can't wait!
nope...but I do regret buying 2
Yep... first bow I had built for me...
Elburg Jaguar Express 63# @ 27"; 60" and tillered for 3 under... Red Elm on the back, walnut on the belly and bubinga riser...
Wish I could get her back, just for sentimental reasons...
Jonathan
My first real hunting recurve was a one piece 60", 40# @ 28" Bear Super Kodiak.
I sold it because it gave me a nasty case of finger pinch when I was doing informal target shooting since I grew into a 30" draw length. Some of my shooting sessions were 1.5-2 hours long.
But, I must say, that bow was a "looker". I sold it and still regret it to this day. :banghead: I should have kept it for a wallhanger.
A Kanati that I bought from jwingman. Jason said that my replacement should be in the mail today!
I just mentioned this on a thread over on the Trad History/Collecting forum:
I had my 1962 Bear Kodiak for 18 years. My one and only bow. In a moment of sheer stupidity I sold it to a friend in 1982 who "thought it looked nice". As I recall, I sold it for less than it would have cost to feed 4 people at a BBQ joint. Old recurves weren't in much demand back then.
I've shot other 62 Kodiaks since then that shot just as well (or better), but to this day, I have not seen another that had such highly figured Brazilian Rosewood...on both sides!
Sheer Stupidity is putting it mildly. I'd pay dearly to get that bow back....especially in the same condition it was in when I sold it.
Maybe one day it will show up and I can redeem myself.
Anyone seen a wickedly figured 55# 62 Kodiak for sale in Texas? I can't remember the serial number, but I would recognize the bow in the blink of an eye!
Oh yeah...my first custom bow I ever owned. Like a :knothead: I sold my Brackenkury Drifter 62"65#@29"
I can't believe I did that!! :knothead: :deadhorse:
I've never regretted getting rid of any....but there's been quite a few that I've regretted buying!!
Who would have thought something so pretty would have been such a peice of garbage!?
I hear ya. Vanilla
Years ago I sold a Fred Anderson Skookum. It took a few years but I think about that bow a lot now and really wish I had it back. I've bought a lot of bows and sold some but that one is my only regret.
Yep, sold my Brazilian Rosewood Fedora 560 TD with 2 sets of limbs. Now I can't afford to buy a bow let alone a Fedora but I do have 2 great little boys and a wonderful Wife :) IJ
Yes, I had a 58# Bamboo Longhunter that I traded on a heavier poundage Bamboo Longhunter. Now that the heavy weight bows are a bit much for me, I wish I had just bought the second Longhunter outright without doing the trade in.
Anyone got a 58# Bamboo Longhunter you want to sell?
Bought a lefty Zebrawood MOAB off the classifieds here.....48#@ my 28" draw. Killed a nice doe with it the second day I owned it. For some unknown reason I decided it was too light and sold it a few months later. :knothead: If anyone reading this has it, I WILL buy it back! ;)
Yes. Every one I sold. I had to drop down in weight and a good friend wanted them. Getting old sucks.
QuoteYes. Every one I sold
YEP!
I'd also like to find out "who" has this bow now. I've regretted selling it every since it left my rack.
Anyone know ???

A Steve Hartley Voodoo Kustom Elk antler bow.
I miss it so much, can't locate it, so Steve is going to build me another one day.
Every Bear I have ever sold.. Most of all my 59..
Had a '66 Grizzly...beautiful shooting bow. Dumb move.
Eric
I don't regret selling any of'em. When I got my silvertip I knew that one wasn't going anywhere. Anyway if I sold it I wouldn't have a bow....so that ain't gonna happen. When I get my next silvertip, it ain't goin anywheres either :0)
Jason
I had a 64" Sovereign recurve. It was all bacote and it was a beautiful ultra sweet shooter. I know who has it and he wants double what I sold it for.
I sold a Black Widow model MAB (all black) with an extra set of limbs back in '98 and wish I still had it. I killed my first trad doe and buck with that bow.
Wish I hadn't sold my Asbel Bighorns. Now I'm looking for one just for old time's sake.
Mine was a custom bow that I had gotten and reworked (took it from 63 lbs to 54 lbs) , gave it to my nephew and a year later....treaded him a new bow for my old one. Kinda like having a fovorite pair of slippers back!
Sold a Blacktail Elite TD several years ago that I always regretted. Fortunately I found a used one on this site that was almost identical so the wound has healed...mostly.
A Savora Premier one-piece recurve I got in trade about 1985. Got it in exchange for an early Jennings compound from a second-hand store that bought out a sporting goods store in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
On the other hand...
I traded the Savora for another bow I regretted selling: my very first "real" bow, an Allen Speedster compound. Still have the Allen and will use it to shoot a deer one of these years.
Winterhawk, what the heck were you thinking?! That is one of the finest looking Zippers I've seen!

I went "brain-dead" temporarily.......I think. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
I also shot it very well. The second arrow that I ever shot from it, took the nock off of the first. :dunno:
I know if I found that Zipper I would never tell you.... :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
two that come to mind and one was stolen from me:
Howatt hunter & a BW MAII take down
mines an almost! few years back i was selling a lot of stuff, as i was kind of in a pinch for money. had a bunch of bows for sale as well as other items. anyway, i was at work thinking about it, and i just couldnt get over that selling my bighorn would be like selling my best friend. i am SOOOOOOO glad i woke up in time. to this day my favorite bow ever.
A Blacktail w/ myrtle wood riser, a one piece Hummingbird 43# longbow that shot as easy as breathing. But now I have 2 Dyes, 2 Hummingbird 3 piece longbows and a Titan. The perfect stable of bows....wonder why I always check the classifieds? Roy

Just one, Acadia woods recurve! 62" 56#@28" My first trad bow, killed my first hog, and deer! I'f anyone here has it and wants to sell it back to me, I'm ready!! Had my name on it!
2
My first trad bow was a PMA Black Widow. Wish I still had it.
I bought a Habu Bushmaster used here. It was heavy, but it sot very nice. Would love to have it back.
