I shoot CX Heritage 150's, I recently trimmed up and footed some of the old busted ones with 1 inch pieces of 2216's and use them for rabbits, small game and stump shooting. I really like this idea and they turned out excellent! I was wondering if any of you guys do this with your other arrows, your big game arrows. Would their be a problem with penetration or any other problems I should be aware of?
Thanks!
I usually foot the bill for things around here 8^).
This is a good question, I am looking forward to hearing the responses.
I foot all my hunting arrows now, Easton Axis Nano with a 1" piece of 2018. I shoot thru quite a few deer this year and good bull elk. I dont think penetration is really a problum since the biggest diameter is 20/64".
The only problum is the footing like to tear up 3-D animals a little more, but well worth it.
Bevel the edges of the footing and the target problem will be very minor. I foot my axis and a few other carbons, the durability gain is enormous.
I have footed some Beaman 340's with 2117 shafts. I used the carbon insert with a 3/4" 8-32 allen cap screw installed, then slipped the aluminum shaft and insert over this. Gave me 270 grns. up front with Zwickey broadhead.
As I like to shoot off a T-300 rest, I fiddled with the length of the aluminum piece until I could feel it bump the rest at full draw. Kind of like a silent clicker for a draw check.
Dave is right, just taper the back of the aluminum piece before you install it and target removal is not a problem, in fact the carbons pull easier from foam because of the larger diameter of the aluminum. - John
I just recieved some blemished shafts from Big Jim very happy with them, they are a little light so I added 3 inches of 2117, fits just right also added about 150 grains of threaded rod, I think it was 1/4 inch inside the shafts just behind the inserts. The final arrow weight is 575 grains. Very happy with the final arrow weight and flight are perfect
Anybody want to do a carbon arrow footing build along to teach some of us?
Terry
I foot all of my CE arrows, at both ends. 1.5" up front and .5" at the nock end. I leave my arrows full length, and add 235 gr. up front counting the footing. This helps to weaken up the spine, and get good arrow flight.
Like Vermonster 13, I taper the ends, so they don't catch in the targets.
This makes them as close to bullet proof as you can get.

I bet I have referenced my videos about footing carbons about a dz times now. Mods can it be placed in the how to section?
I saw that but I can't view the video, I'll try on a different computer. Also Whats the difference between outside and inside footing. My main reason for footing is for shaft durability, I break alot of carbons for some reason. Plus I need to repair some that have the insert shoved in so those will be external footings and used for rabbits and tree rats.
T Folts, thats exactly why I did what I did, my inserts were shoved into the arrow and split them. I cut an inch or so off, slid on the aluminum footing then installed the insert. After that set up I glued the footing uptight to the insert! very easy to do, I followed Pacs video!
I have a 2213 and it seems to tight. Is the 2213 just a thinner wall?
I chamfer the edge of the footing just a bit so to make them easier to remove from targets. I use footing on all my carbon arrows, no matter what I shoot with them:
