Been looking at a couple of recurved bowfishing kits and they have the roller type arrow rest. I have also seen some bows that others have used to bowfish that they just shoot off the shelf of a wooden riser.
Now one of the kit bows is the PSE Kingfisher that comes with the roller rest. does it really matter what kind of rest you use? Thinking this bow could be used for fishing and hunting. Would it be better to use a rest like the

More so for hunting or will the

also work good for hunting as well as for fishing.
I bowfish a lot and would just shoot off the shelf. No need for a fancy rest of any kind with a trad bow.
what type of bow? On the PSE Kingfisher the riser is cut like that of a wheelie bow way past center.. Just thinking about tuning and all.
If it was just a bow like a Bear (Any one of them) as a example, I can see off the shelf.
THE flipper rest will not hold up to the abuse of bowfishing. If you wrap the line around that during a retrieve it will probably be junk. Shoot off the shelf or take the roller rest off after bowfishing and install the other rest. Pretty simple change out.
the top rest you have pictured there probably wont hold up to repeated use of the heavy fiberglass fish arrows and would likely break some what fast i shoot a wheelie bow for bowfishing and shoot of the shelft shots are very close havent noticed any issue with tunning

I have one of these bolted onto my Kingfisher. It works very well as a fishing rest. You can adjust the rest up & down, left & right & th angle of the hook to suit your particular bow or shooting style. Very versatile, very simple, fairly expensive, but totally worth it. You'll soon get sick of knocking your arrow off the shelf or a roller when you're going for those quick snap shots.

Rob how does it work on say hunting arrows?
i can say with 25 years of bowfishing, the more you have to tangle with the retrieval line the more trouble you ask for. i use a velcro type shelf rest. they are waterproof and dry quickly.
Most guys I know with bow risers like that use the epoxy molding clay to make a rest on it. Simple is better.
I've been using NAP Flipper II rests on my bowfishing recurves for more years than I can remember. I've never had one break.
The main thing is I'm thinking of getting a bowfishing bow like the KingFisher and also use it to hunt hogs & deer with down here in Tejas..
I've been taking my time to build another wood bow, but just isn't working out to good.
check out the muzzy bowfishing rest ive been using these on all bowfishing bows and have had good luck out of them. :thumbsup:
Sal, I bought the kingfisher kit with the same intentions. I put the reel and rest on my old wheelie and set the bow up to shoot regular arrows. The biggest problem with the bow is that it was not designed to be quiet. Fiberglass limbs bolt direstly to an aluminium riser, with no buffer. It sounds like a train wreck when you shoot it. Other than that, it's a fine bow and practically bomb-proof.
As for the roller rest, it's a strange beast, but once you figure it out, it's OK. I would prefer the AMS rest or the Muzzy rest that wildgame suggested.
Fiberglass limbs bolt? for real the bolts are fiberglass... are they the same size as metal bolts?
