Title: Ever been to fat to Hunt?
Post by: joebuck on January 12, 2010, 07:41:00 PM
I'm only 10# away from being too fat to hunt anymore. It finally hit me Sunday perched in my tree in 16 degree weather.Everything i got is tight. Had to hook my safety harness buckles up in Braille cus i ain't seen em!. By the time i got all my King of the Overprice on ,it shrunk my draw lenght 6 inches. How in the world have Biggie , Gene and Marty hunted all these years like this? I have got to lose some weight...anyone else?

You have to adjust son...buy the 4xl and 5xl instead of trying to pour yourself into a 2xl.
Get buddystands that are made for two hunters.
Get two belts, hook one into the other and you'll have plenty of extra holes.
You can go to an upolstery shop and have webbing added to your safety harness.
And finally, go to a 3/4 ton pick up.

Hang your stand further out in the woods and the walk in might help out some. Or do as Biggie says.

Joebuck, do yourself a favor and try to loose the weight.  You will be a better hunter and maybe stick around to hunt longer.  I understand, I lost 40 lbs in 2009.  Felt alot better hanging stands, climbing up in stands, and had a good year.  I know it's hard but just give it a try.

Yes I come from a family that considers gravy a beverage and I used to try to go back for seconds at communion. But over the last two years I started walking and cutting back. I've lost 66 pounds and feel great.

Joey, I've Been there and I still need to loose 25 more. I was hunting fall of 2008 and saw that I was pushing the limits of my climber and Camo. I had lost 34 lbs  spring and summer of 2009 but have gained 10 back since September. I lost the weight by eating less, I still eat plenty but just try to have smaller portions. I'm gonna try to start the "eat less" diet again next week.

I used to be so skinny I had to run around in the shower to get wet and my pajamas had only one stripe.  Oh for the days of the high octane metabolism.

Now, I'm leery about wearing a ghillie suit lest all the burlap threads stick straight out. Who wants to wander the woods looking like the love child of a sasquatch and a blowfish?
Title: Re: Ever been to fat to Hunt?

I've always been "husky". I've reached an all time high. I use to have the opinion that it was easier to get use to it than to get rid of it. I don't like the way I feel anymore so I decided to make some goals. 20 by bear season (May) and another 20 by moose season (September). Thats 40 all together might be tough. I have to keep reminding myself that its not just losing weight its a lifestyle change. If I change my lifestyle (like cut out soda pop and drink more water, only have one helping at the dinner table, and go to the gym on a regulator bases) I believe that the weight will come off. I figure that if I ever want to hunt Dahl Sheep I need to be in a lot better shape "Sheep Shape" as the locals call it.

Good luck to all
Olin

I'm with ya boys. I finally broke down before bow season started and gave away all of my huntin clothes that were too tight to my weight challenged friends. Problem is that by the time Thanksgiving was over the stuff I kept was to tight .
Did you ever notice that all of the good camo makers discriminate against us. I now have to buy 2- XXL shirts and put them together to make one that fits.
Koger your story brought a tear to my eye LMAO . Oh- guess I didn't laugh long enough my a** is still the same size.

Summitt makes a climbing stand good to 400#

Cabelas makes a cot good to 500#

You can find all kinds of boots that are slip on- no need to try to bend over to tie boots.

Fat guys have to walk slower = stealhty.

Buying quart bottles of water instead of the dinky 8oz saves money.

Anytime you fly and there is an extra meal, the stewardess will ALWAYS offer it to you.

First off you need to swear that all you will eat is wild game taken by you, next you need to put the bow down and run your game down and kill it by hand. You will be in a Med. by next deer season

Well if your serious about this, you can do something about it.  Two years ago, I had the same awakening.  If I was going to be able to continue hunting the mountains, something had to be done.

Connie and I joined Weight Watchers on line.  We learned a lot and stuck to the system.  Long story short I lost 60# and Connie got down to her marriage weight.

I have another 25 to go while working out for our Moose hunt this fall.  I know I can do it now and it's a lot easier.

If you have any questions about the system, give me a call.

Mike

I'm so fat (how fat are you?) I'm so fat I went jogging the other day and when I started to sweat I got picked up on doppler radar.

Seriously, I'm 50 pounds overweight and 50 years old and that's a bad combination for hunting public land in West Virginia. I couldn't haul my treestand up to this favorite spot I like to hunt this past fall.

I like to shoot my bow as much as I like to hunt so I decided I'm not shooting anymore until I get my weight down below 200 pounds, I weigh 220 now. I just need to make myself eat less and exercise more. It's not going to be easy but I need to do it. The Weight Watchers online thing sounds like a good idea.

I wouldnt say im fat because im 6.2 230 but this was the first year i had trouble tying my boots.

I have already dropped down to 220 since Christmas so im on my way.

Havent started exercising yet but i have cut out a lot of sugar and the carbs.

Hey Spike, try this. Go ahead and shoot, but walk 100 yards past your target then back and get your arrows then back to start. Rinse repeat.

You can still shoot but you get some exercise to boot.

In have to do that any way to retrieve the arrows that missed the target!!!! :^(

Misery loves company-hence Me, Biggie and the twins hang out alot. Joey is trying to worm his way in. When Biggie and I used to fly into remote Montana-the pilot used to use us for balast. Seriously, he made us move around- every time. Used to think it was funny, but I'm very sensative now. Ask Steve Osceola.

You all are too funny.

Last year at this time I was a member of the 300 club. It was convenient, I had a built in plate and cup holder. On air planes people would opt to sit by next to others giving me plenty of room.

This year I am 1/3 the man I used to be! Still have 15 lbs to go.

Hunting wasn't any more enjoyable last season, but the areas I went in to weren't quite as far as they had been before.

I wish I could avoid this thread but alas no! I had an excuse these last couple of years with all the pain in my back but now that my surgeon has fixed that, I am without excuse.

Not only am I without excuse but now I have a couple great motivators.

I will only share one of them on here.

Last night I was talking with a new tradgang friend Rich(rjms1995) and he invited me to come to Washington and elk hunt with him.

How very cool is that? Way!!!

I've never elk hunted and had all but given up on the idea after I lost the use of one of my lungs because of a fall that caused nerve damage preventing half of my diaphragm from working.

But our bodies are wonderfully made and mine is no exception. My remaining good lung has over time accommodated/ acclimated itself to the situation. (now not so much an issue any more)

My back surgery appears to have been 100% successful.
I am for the most part pain free except for the normal stuff one experiences just because of age.

If I can get my weight under control(and I can) then this elk hunt from a physical standpoint is very doable.  Hooohaa!!

Count me in!!!!
God bless,Mudd

100# is right.

I did it through diet and exercise. There is a silver bullet that makes it easier. PM me and I will let you in on the secret.

Never in our married life had we owned a scale. I just couldn't figure out why my 3X shirts were too small and the size 42 pants didn't fit under my belly.  My better half has always been trim. Even after 7 kids she weighs in at 118#'s.

To start it off we purchased a scale. I committed to weigh my self daily (in the morning just before I hopped in the shower). I then wrote my weight on the side of our mirror with a dry erase marker. I would keep 40 to 60 days of weights on the mirror to see what direction I was heading, and to be accountable to my better half.

I cut out pop and sugar, quit making a stop at the convenience store for anything but gas.
Chewed lots of sugar free gum.
Drank GALLONS AND GALLONS of Crystal Lite.

My main menue consisted of lots of stir fry meals!

Since Thanksgiving I am up 4# to 6# but holding steady, I did enjoy my favorite pies (round) and other holiday treats.

Any exercise was just walking. This winter, I've tried to hunt rabbits each weekend, and jump shoot ducks at night, this keeps me out and about.

My good buddy turned 50 this year, during hunting season he just wasn't feeling well, after he went in for a check up. He ended up getting a triple bypass.

:readit:  REALITY HIT HOME! That is not a road I EVER want to go down. He is in recovery and doing well but has a road to work back to hunting weights on his bow.

You know it's bad when an alarm starts chirpin' every time you back up! It's also probably not a good sign if you bring a toothbrush and a change of clothes with you to the "all you can eat" buffet.

I had belly band put in 2 months ago and am losing some weight but we cooked a bunch of beans for 2 days at the lease. I could only eat about a cup of them. I wanted to cry. Them beans were good. Being full had nothing to do with how much I wanted to eat

I'm with you Joey!  I got on the scale the other day and it said "one at a time please"! I'm fatter than I've ever been. I first knew I was in trouble this year when I went deer hunting for the first time. I'm too dang cheap to buy a new climber stand and still have my 1987 Loggy Bayou self climber where you have to hug the tree to go up.  Well, I was like a teeter toter on the tree. I tried to hug the tree and my belly would get in the way and cause my legs to kick out! Finally, made it up the tree, but I'd worn the fabric off my shirt and was bruised to beat all.  I've started working on the old "hand to mouth" disease and have dropped a few. My problem is that my doctor always says I'm the healthiest fat guy he's ever met and my wife thinks I look great!  Love really is blind!

Interesting thread, funny, yet seems several of us are realizingwhatwe need to do and doing it.

I'm down 15# so far, started a week before Christmas. I'm using the South Beach Diet, which works very well and is a healthy diet. It can be a bit trying at times, but it works. Why SB? It was developed by a cardiologist.

I'm 46, 5'8" and had crept up to 210#. Not cool. My problem, I love food. I love to cook, and eat. I was on a See-food diet for too long, and I was getting seriously winded doing a lot of remedial labor. Went to see my Doc, and when I saw my cholesterol numbers, something had to change. 276 with triglycerides over 400. He told me I ain't 20 no more, and I gotta pull my head outta my arse.

I knew it, and got to thinkin on the way home. I'm a firefighter/paramedic. One thing I've noticed over 22 years on the job is the average age of people I see dying from sudden cardiac arrest is getting lower. When I was a newbie, most of 'em were in their 60-70's. Now we see a lot of em in thier mid 40's. Like me.

Makes me sick when I gotta run a call on a guy with his kids in the other room crying in total shock cuz their Dad just dropped dead. Wake up call. Gut check. Whatever ya wanna call it, I knew I had to change my ways.

I have 2 boys and a wife that would never deserve me droppin dead, and it was up to me to pull my head out and get motivated.

My goal is to drop at least another 25# and go from there. My game plan is this.

1.Slow, steady and determined progress. Its not a race.

No fast food( other than venison). No junk food. No processed foods. If it comes in a box, I don't eat it.

Whole grains, whole wheats only. Nothing with white flour, or "enriched" grains.

Lots of fresh healthy fruits, veggies and homemade soups.

Get more exercise. Havent started on that one yet, but even with the 15# I've lost so far, I feel so much better.

Its a process of learning how to prepare your favorite foods in a manner that is healthy, and tastes every bit as good, but its worth it.

I think the South Beach diet program suits all that perfectly. I was 140# when I got out of the Navy in 1986. I am looking to retire in 18 months, and I plan to enjoy every minute of it hunting fishing and experienceing the backcountry of America. Can't do it very well if I'm dead.

Good luck to those who are also trying to drop some baggage.

Thanks John, truer words haven't been said yet!
I still carry the stresses of my time as a firefighter/EMT and really never recovered from a downward spiral of poor sleep patterns followed by the evil trio of lack of energy, over eating and no exercise.
Time for a lot of us to step up to the... scale? Oooh, I said it:    :scared:    :knothead:

im 6'1" and right at 300 lbs. i re-started my portion control a week ago and have lost 6lbs. on the first day of riffle season this past year my wife took a nice 8 pointer and my hunting buddy and i had a rough drag straight up for 275 yds. on a gas line in national forest,at one point i collapsed and felt very, very weak...i honestly think it almost killed me!

You're right Jeff! I'm the perfect weight if I were 6'7".

I always hear of all these fitness gurus who spend their whole life eating Super Model dinner portions and running and exercising in all their spare time and they are keeling over at a young age. My philosophy is that your heart only has so many beats in it and why waste them on exercise? That just shortens the time to use up the beats! : ) Sounds logical right?  Anyway, I hate running. I'd rather have someone poke needles in my eyes than go running. I try to only run if something is chasing me! Then only if their isn't something to climb.

I wasn't hunting at the time, and I'm no lightweight now, but a number of years back I got the shock necessary to make me lose weight.  I was at almost 260 at 5 foot 7.   At my annual physical, my doctor informed me that I had become diabetic, solely due to my eating habits, sedentary work/life and excess weight.   He said he wanted to put me on insulin shots immediately, but could wait and try just a regimen of pills and see how things went if I was willing to get really serious about exercise and and diet and lose at least 70 pounds.   I was really, really scared, as I had lost two family members to diabetes, one having lost a leg before she died.  I replied that no one had ever explained it to me quite that way.

I joined the Volksmarch program, walking daily and doing at least one six mile walk every weekend, as well as attacking the diet.  Over the next two years, I got down to 185.  This was almost 20 years ago.  I don't walk as much any more (can't), but I still exercise and control my sugar and fat intake.  I got back up to 205 last year, just from getting diet careless and not walking as much, but now I'm on track again, taking it down... at 190 right now and aiming for 180.  It gets a lot harder after age 65 and harder yet after 70.

Believe me, I miss the goodies I used to eat all the time and now have to ration to occasional treats, and I barely remember what beef is. Bacon and fried foods are just an historical myth in our house.   I'm still on the pill regimen, but I know damn well I wouldn't be here right now if I hadn't taken action.   And to get back to the original question, I went on a hunt last year, my first, and I'm proud to say I was able to handle it, even did one long walk to work off the adrenalin after I shot my first javie.

So...  THINK!  You like living, you love hunting, you're seriously overweight?   Do something about it now.  If you have the will power and concentration to learn to shoot a bow well, you should be able to apply those traits to getting yourself healthy.

Sorry to get so darn serious, but guys, obesity is a cause of many health problems, some life threatening.  It's no laughing matter.   My doctor once told me, "Dick, the spine is a column, not a cantilever!"    Spend at least as much attention matching your spine to your body weight as you spend matching your arrow's spine to your bow...

Dick in Seattle....the truth is the truth and nobody like to hear it most of the time......Just diagnosed with diabetes, 57 yrs-5'10", 185#. Go to the gym daily, got a food regement that would make a super model lose wieght. But you gotta do what you gotta do if you enjoy the things I do, hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and just enjoy'n life. I got lucky to retire at age 55, I didn't do that to end up poop'n the bed and chew'n on the sheets.

I have never been to fat to hunt but have been out of shape and couldn't hunt the way I wanted to.

After 3 years of a bad back, I finally had surgery and started getting better, but the weight I had gained was still there.

After losing my dad and realizing he died from a heart attack due to being over weight, I started taking control of my eating habits and have dropped 25 lbs and kept it off.

The weight watchers program is a no brainer. You get x amount of points based on your height and weight.

You need to excercise as well.

It is pretty simple. If you want to hunt, show some self control and don't eat as much, lose weight, feel great, and hunt hard.

If you want to eat, then quit hunting.

Good luck on which ever endeavor you decide.

I haven't had the weight problem - but heart problems run in our family - high blood pressure - cholesterol. I have some heavy weight sisters and they have always had trouble - not enough exercise and eating problems.

What to do differently hmmm- well you are what you absorb so:

Since I have been drinking Active and Pulse ( the juice I had for a draw this xmas)the cholesterol has dropped dramatically plus I get the goodness of 13 servings of fruits and veggies every day with only 4 ounces...PLUS it has curbed my sweet tooth. I get the glucosemine too for my joints. All in all it's helped my hunting an my health.

I can't believe it!  For various reasons I haven't been on here in a while until today and I come across this topic.  I have definately grown wider than taller over the years.  This past bow season I noticed I was getting a little winded when walking up the hill back to the truck.  Then in November my younger brother by 2 yrs. (44) had to have heart surgergy (5 BYPASSES!). The time is now to take aim for being "less" of a man for my family and myself. And, so I can continue enjoying time in the woods entertaining the whitetails and turkey as I fling feathered sticks by them to watch fly through the air and listen to me speak in tongues.

I had a blood pressure scare in February that got my attention quick with two nose bleeds of about 4 hours each. Never had a nose bleed in my life. I have gotten rid of all my bigger camo, regular clothes , etc.. not gonna need it anymore. Feel better than I have in 10 years. On the weekends, I will have two meals of what I am craving, but no buffets for me anymore. I took a sip of my son's Coke the other day and it was too sweet for me.. never thought I would say that. Haven't followed no type of a diet plan, just haven't eaten what I thought would be bad for me, so far it's working !!. I will say the sweet tea was the hardest for me to quit

I had my annual physical around the first of this year. My doctor suggested that I might want to consider taking a high blood pressure pill. I said no thanks, let me lose some weight first and see what happens. Losing weight has always lowered my blood pressure in the past. I'm now 40 pounds lighter and about ready to get my B.P. checked again. My weight has yo-yo'ed up and down throughout my adult life. Luckily, it's easy for me to lose weight when I count my calories and limit my daily intake to 2000-2500 calories. Unfortunately, it's much easier to put it back on when I stop watching what and how much I eat. It's like they say, you need to "eat to live" rather than "live to eat".

Joebuck, I had a similar problem. Got my weight up to 305 lbs. @ 47 years of age and felt old. I'm tall with a big frame, but it was still killing me. I bought a Kona Hoss mountain bike, 3 years ago on my wife's birthday. That bike was build for a heavyweight. I spent 6 weeks in the dog house, but it was the best investment of my life. I don't ride as regular as I should, but when I'm feeling fat I ride the thing and actually enjoy it. My legs and cardio hold up better when pounding the hills and I don't have the aches and pains that I had before. Also my balance is better. I only ride it on the road and installed radial belted tires that are goat head proof. Course you'll have to toughen your butt a bit and you'll watch your diet better when riding.

I am with you. I let my weight get out of control. It is easy to blame it on a desk job and several injuries, but the truth is I ate too much. Since the beginning of April I have lost 45 pounds and am comitted to keep going. I use an 1800 calorie exchange diet. In addition I try to eat whole grain carbs instead of white bread and biscuts. I eat more vegatables than I ever have in my life and I only drink decaf coffee. The coffee was a biggie for me. I used to drink 8-12 cuos a day and I cant tell you How much better I feel without it. I cannot comfortably jog yet but I try to walk 1-2 miles at least 3 days a week. I was going to join a gym but then I realized that when you way over 300 pounds you carrie your weight set on you, so I started doing push ups and other exersizes to build more muscle. Last but certainly not the least, I pray daily for Gods holy spirit to guide me and give me strenght. I can do all things though Christ, who strengthens me. If you want to know more or just need some encouragement that you can do it Send me a PM and I will be happy to respond. one of my goals is to be able to fully hunt the Cohutta wilderness here in north Georgia instead of just the flat parts.

God Bless
Uncle Buck

Not sure it was mentioned yet but another thing to cut out is using a 4 wheeler. Walk instead.

Well guys, I'm another one in the same boat.  Around the first of the year I got serious and have lost 26 lbs so far.  I did attend an 8 week class at the VA called MOVE and learned a bunch about nutrition and losing weight.  Some keys:  A pound= 3500 calories.  If you want to lose a pound a week, cut back 500 calories a day - 2 pounds a week, 1000 calories a day.  How do you know?  A web site called  www.fitday.com (http://www.fitday.com)  - it's free, just register.  Plug in what you eat and see what your calorie loading is.  The other things:  25% of your plate is protein, 25% starch (bread, pasta, potatos, peas, beans or corn) and 50% veggies.  Your protein should be approximately 4 oz.  I know, I know, it doesn't seem like enough to eat but after a week or so your body will get used to it.  Like others have said, eat tons of veggies, keep starchs to a minimum and fruit for desert.  Keep your calories in the 1400 range.  Personally, my average daily intake of calories over the past 2 months is 1279 and I'm dropping an average of 2#'s a week.  I'm in my 4th NEW HOLE in my belt and have dropped 4 inches in my pants size so far.  I am half way to my goal.  You CAN DO IT!!

I just had to wade in here on this one, owing to the fact that weight has been near and dear to me for most of my aging years. After multi attempts at losing and  trying to keep it off, I have come up with two perfect diets.
1. If you like it, don't eat it!
2. Eat half a meal on half a plate.
Now I won't say this will work for everyone, however, I am now down 105 pounds over the past year and a half, and what used to be a calm demeanour has turned into a growling, snapping vicious wolf-like attitude especially when there is food around. However, stair climbing, walking and everyday chores are no longer a challenge and shooting the bow has become more pleasant somehow. Whether it stays off or not, well .... one day at a time.

My wife just got diagnosed with Diverticulosis and has to make some diet changes. More whole grains, fiber, less fat etc.. Basically a healthier diet. I'm the cook in the family so we are all going to eat this and we are starting to loose weight already. Next step is cutting out the chips, soda and regular beer. Have to start drinking lite  :(  Some more exercise will be good for us as well.

Good luck everyone and lets get some updates from the early posters.

hunting clothes are too expensive to just replace b/c I got lazy and gained weight. None of mine fit and if I can get them on, they are tight and uncomfortable.  I've been working on losing weight (30#) for about a month now. slow process but I'm getting there. Good Luck everyone!

I don't know that I even want to talk about it...lol

I have other stuff right now that has my focus but maybe I should change that and become a little more "self" centered.

I know the other things are stressful, add into that my weight overage, it could spell...well not so good for me.

I try daily just to turn it over to "Him" who has some control versus me who apparently has little...lol

One of the gifts of His spirit is "self control" and it's about high time that I at least unwrapped it...lol

I wonder if it would help to ask someone to help hold me feet to the fire...lol J/K

Please don't.. it'll just make things worse since I rebel so very easily...lol

I am stubborn to the point of being mulish.

God bless,Mudd

I try to make it a rule to not give diet or fitness advice to people anymore, due to people wanting to you to really just tell them what they are doing is "right", even though it is not.

So, I'll just say what works for me. Its simple and easy, but it takes a little determination, just a little...

I can't follow strict "don't eat this, eat that, don't eat carbs, don't eat fat, only eat protein" type diets. They all fail. I've tried them all time and again and its simply madness. Noone is going to go through the rest of their lives and not eat breads, or any of the "don't eat" foods. We're only here once, and food is a pleasure and we should eat the things we enjoy, and eat them in the company of people we enjoy.

I started back in January following a simple diet adjustment. I simply do two 24 hour Fasts per week. Usually they are on Wednesday and Saturday. I keep a pretty low calorie level on the other 5 days, although I do eat the foods that I want. Like tonight after I lift weights for about an hour, I'm eating spaghetti. These two fasts create a great caloric deficit for me without having to do any cardio exercise whatsoever. I'm about to break into the 170s for the first time in around 8 years, and I have did it this time without running a single step. Sure, I'll eventually have to add in a little cardio but it won't be much to keep my fat loss going.

This method makes weight/fat loss effortless for me. No more stressing over what I can or can't eat, no more of the 6 meals per day nonsense. I'd suggest you folks look into Brad Pilon's Eat Stop Eat book.

www.bradpilon.com (http://www.bradpilon.com)

for a little more advanced version, which I don't personally use at the moment.

www.leangains.com (http://www.leangains.com)

Intermittent Fasting is the easiest way to get and stay lean without it consuming your life, plus allowing you to bowhunt longer and healthier!

Its funny how when people see you are losing weight they want to know what your "secret" is. When I tell them eat less, exersize and pray, they walk away dissapointed that I didnt have a secret shortcut. They probably shoot compound bows.

While all in good fun and a good read, I think it is actually possible.

I know of three men in a family that ride four wheelers TO their chosen tree to hunt and have for years.

Keep in mind this is about 200-400 yards off road, not miles.

Not sure if they got heavy due to health or health went to pot due to weight or a combo of the two plus getting older too.

I give em credit where credit is due that they still hunt at all though. They enjoy each other's company and share a family sport together. Good enough for me.

I do know weight loss is steady and consistant if you climb up and down 8 steps, twice, climb on and off a forklift twice (driving it 50 yards both ways), bend over 4 times with 10lbs in your hand, and 4 more times with lighter stuff......and repeat that every 5 minutes, 12 hours a night while you are constantly reminded you are "not keeping up".      :scared:     ) continued their down hill slide more rapidly and takes both hands to get out of the truck when you get home or to get out of bed.

There ARE jobs out there that "age/weight discrimination" should be allowed. LOL

In 8 months, I am now second in line for top "seniority", 27-30 year olds quitting due to physical toll. Half the new hires dont stay a week, some not an entire day.

Hello? Earth to employer?  Anything appearing consistant here? lol

oh yeah......I also get to eat anything I want and still losing more weight......between medications. ROFL

How'd they GET that recliner IN the tree, BTW?  Inquiring minds NEED to know LOL. (actually gave up trees stands. One reason of many was it being a PIA to GET INTO them when old, fat and etc etc. More fun on the ground anyway.)

God bless. Put one foot in front of the other....continually repeat. "The secret of weight loss".

On the more serious side, When you get to a point where you can face the facts, that you can't eat whatever you want, and you want to get healthier, PM me and I'll give you information towards that goal.

I should have been dead by now, so I have to figure the Lord left me here for a reason, helping people find this simple remedy is the only thing I can come up with.

Good luck.

Been pretty sick lately. Had 19 vials of blood taken last week & did a spit test. Good news is the Doc says everything will be fine but it will take a good 6 months for me to recover. He says no hard workouts right now but can get back at it in a month or two. Wish everyone out there still working on it good luck & keep going.

Never been to fat to hunt but may have hunted easier without knowing it. Some good humor from some of you - age makes it hard to stay slim if you don't put some effort into it. You would think it would be difficult but if your 50, you only need to get you heart up to 85-145 bpm or so (you can do that by walking). 1/2 hour and work up to 45 min every other day. You get outside, which is what we all like anyway.
220 - (your age) = MAX heart rate (work at 50-85% of that) get a heart rate monitor and use it.
You"ll get to hunt longer and see your family longer, promise. I use the hunting season as a reason to do it and fall off in December - one day I hope to go year round. I can't budge the scale down much, stuck around 200, peak around 208 and should be around 190 or so.

I hate to say it but it all starts in the grocery store. Simply don't buy what you know you shouldn't eat. Learn about carbs, proteins, salt and fats. Exercise is important but as one personal trainer told me at the gym, and he was correct, was that  you can't out train a poor diet.
