Title: Going to Texas
Post by: Mike Yancey on January 12, 2010, 10:28:00 AM
Here's the stuff that's making the trip to Texas next week. My sinew and rawhide backed bows with some sourwood and cane shafts with some new stone points made for me by a new knapper I am using now Stephen Cooley. These are some real nice points, I just mounted them yesterday and shot them today to see how they flew on the shafts.
Good stuff!

Mike:

Real beauties.  Best of luck down in South Tx.

What do you shoot the stone points into without fear of breakage??  I'd be skeeered to shoot those beauties into anything with much density.

Thanks,

Mike,
Those are beautiful bows and arrows.
I once lived in Campwood, which in the same county as Rocksprings, (Edwards).

Ya'll should have a blast, especially deer hunting. The average there is around one deer to every six acres, and it's not unusual to see lots of Exotics roaming around. The fun thing is that you never know what will walk by offering a shot.

I hope you're taking more than the 5 arrows   :)

Mike,

That's cool, I've hunted not too far east of there.  Nice country and should be warmer this time of year then AR.

If your route brings you our way, stop by.

I have a bunch more arrows Billy, and D. I shoot them into a foam broadhead target then run a new line of flakes after I'm done to sharpen them if needed, but you have to shoot them to see how they fly. Randy we can talk bows anytime.

I want to thank you for sharing with us! I also look forward to your return and the follow up thread.
I will make it to Texas or somewhere to hunt out of state(God willing) this coming year. I need to keep it on the "Cheap" especially if I'm gonna try to take the "Woogchilde" along.

Nice work Mike! Hope to see you at the MoBoJam.
God bless,Mudd

Beautiful bows Mike. Could You give us some info and specs on them?

Marshall,
Both bows are 60-65 lb @ 26'', sinew and rawhide backed 52'' long one is osage the other is vine maple. The osage is 1 1/2 wide with antelope sinew and rawhide and antelope horn overlays on the tips. The vine maple is 2 1/4 wide with elk sinew and antelope rawhide. The vine maple is a real fast bow as it has no deflex only reflex. The osage bow has deflex off of the handle then going into reflex to the tips. It is a real sweet shooter just not as fast as the other.
