Post by: Bullfrog on January 12, 2010, 08:46:00 AM
I knowthis stuff is popular now. What pieces would you wear in the 20 to 30 degree range for stand hunting? Thanks.   BILL

Bill its really not well designed for stand hunting but is ok in the temps you posted. I like the vest and the 90% pant. These pants have a micro fleece lining and and keep me warm down into the teens. Ive tried most of their garments and for my money cabelas micro tex is hard to beat.

Berber is a better choice for cold weather in the treestand.

I use all of the Sitka gear. I layer depending on outside temp. The only other product I use in combination with it when it's real cold (Montana, 3 to 6 degrees, my coldest hunt on stand) is merino wool underwear, wool socks and insulated rubber boots. I am good to go for up to 5 or so hours on stand. I like Sitka stuff. It's lite and tough and for me it's warm. It is also easy on, off and fits in my day Pac with ease.

In order

1 merino wool or Traverse or Expedition Bottom and Top (sometimes both wool and Sitka)
2 Traverse Zip Tee
3 Vest (older Sitka lined)
3 90% jacket or Kelvin jacket depending Temp
4 wool scarf and wool hat
5 Gloves

I can't sit forever, just my nature. This system allows me (I sweat, big-time!!) to add and subtract layer as needed and still not feel the bulk.
I also use the light weight stuff in the warmer months.

I love this stuff.

I have the 90% pants, vest and jacket and the traverse pants and the core crew. It is extremely well made. I hunted in a downpour and the 90% did a decent job of keeping me from getting soaking wet.

I get cold easy and there's no way the 90% stuff would keep me warm down into the 30's on a stand. It is great stuff for moderate temps. It is very costly but if you get it on sale it is acceptable. I suspect it will last a long time.

I need much heavier stuff for cold weather stand hunting.

Add the Kelvin jacket to the 90% and consider it 100% gear. I get cold easy in a treestand but not with the Kelvin on. Matter of fact I was sweating with it on at around 30 degrees. Now if they would just come out with some kelvin pants.
