Saturday i was shooting my PSA X widow off of a 15 foot deck down at my friends cabin they just built.
Down below there is a huge stack of rocks that they are going to put in the drive way.
Anyway my arrow came off the string and i dry fired my bow and it jumped out of my hand.
The bow landed straight up with the bottom limb crashing into the deck and then the bow bounced off the deck onto the rocks below. I almost passed out watching my 3 month old bow with osage and copperhead skins crashing all over the place.
I went down the stairs to retrieve the bow and to my amazement there wasnt a scratch on the bow anywhere.
I shot the bow many times after this happened and the bow is just fine.
Im not sure what kind of finish they put on there bows but boy was i impressed.
I did a very similar thing about five years ago with a 2-3 month old Super Shrew. I was standing on top of a very rocky hill side taking downhill practice shots. Nock broke, bow flew out of my hand, and tumbled several times before coming to a rest. I won't say it didn't have any marks on it but the damage was far less than I'd have guessed.
they use a marine epoxy finish....and it is thick!!
they take a beating and keep on shooting for sure.
That's good to hear, I could tear up a hammer and got s BW because I wanted a bow to be Zeke-proof.
Thus far I Only have a few small nicks that I could probably buff out.
Congrats on not dying after losing such a Purty bow...
in my mind - toughness is black widow's ace in the hole. you can find a prettier bow, you can find a faster bow, you can find bows that do any one thing better, but i don't thing you can find a bow that any more bomb proof than a widow that does everything else very, very well. just my opinion.
Ill 2ad that Follower
:clapper:
I have a similar story. I was going across a creek one night in the dark after leaving a stand. Slipped and fell in the large rocks on the widow. I just knew it was seriously gouged up. I looked it over in the light when I got home and not a single scratch. Like you I have no idea what the finish is they put on them but I wish every bowyer had it.
Joe, you crack me up man! Glad it worked out.
My bud has one close to twenty years old. He's left it strung for years picks it up and kills deer every season. They are as tough as it gets.
Note to self: Do not buy used bows from joevan125 :scared: .
Good stories! I too dropped my Widow out of the stand 2 days in a row this fall...(don't ask how) and not even a mark on the bow. Between the "bomb proof" bow and "bomb proof" Kanati quiver, as was well!
LV2HUNT- That's funny!!!
As far as Widow's go, I can't wait to get me one!!!
Black Widow makes one tough bow. Hada bow limb blow on me two different times, and they weren't a Widow. One was a TD trad bow, and the other was a wheel bow (20 years ago)and both were only two weeks old. Still waiting for my new limbs on the trad bow - been four months.
