Title: I'm baaack & blooodtrail'n
Post by: Ryan Sanpei on January 10, 2010, 02:11:00 PM
I've been away for awhile, but I'm back. Here's a few pics of a 2010 hunt with my Bob Lee Longbow.

First sign of blood, 5 yds from where I shot it.  So far so good!

Leaves were rustling 30 yards ahead of me.  It wasn't the sound of the wind nor mongoose, it was the sound of a hog nudging leaves and dirt in search of  food.  Instantly, I nocked an arrow and stood motionless. He popped his head from the brush.  Out appeared a little thirty-pounder, not big enough to shoot so I decided to take a few pics.  I slipped my hand into my pocket to grab my cell phone.  Just as I set my phone to the camera setting,  I heard a twig snap to the left me.  I figured that it was only another small hog, but just to be sure I dropped the phone, slowly turning to the sounds of the noisy hog.  Then I placed my tab on my string and focused my attention to the trail below me.  The noise grew louder and louder, out stepped a shooter hog fifteen yards away and unaware of my presence.  I drew back my longbow, hit anchor and off it went.  The hog took off like a rocket.  It ran about ten yards, U-turned and headed straight back on the same trail.  I'm just glad that I wasn't on that trail.

Here is where the pig made the U-turn.

It was getting late...still on the trail.  It was a little hairy crawling though some of those pig "tunnels" alone.  Didn't know if she was waiting for me on the other side!

Way to go Ryan!  Keep the story coming.  I'll bet your hunting grounds were a little warmer then mine today.

Thanks guys!

Hey Vince, not to brag but the temp here is in the mid 80's.   ;)

After a short blood trail,  I found my sow of the new year piled up in some bushes.

Packed her home, then the family helped to debone, pack and freeze the meat.  Going to make some pulled pork for the guys at the range next week!

Ryan, 'tis not nice to talk about 80 degree temps when the east coast is like my fridge. Nice porker, too. That size makes good sandwiches... uummmm, pulled pork!!

"in some areas/island we have year round bowhunting!"

"80 degree temps"

I live in Iowa: Snow, Cold, no pigs to shoot.

I am a little jealous!

Nice hog Ryan!

Dan-
I saw your post on Kauai, good going!  I didn't get anything on my last trip to Kauai.  Na pali is an awesome place to hunt. I really want to get a Blacktail from Waimea, it's the only animal that I haven't shot in Hawaii.  Hope you return soon!

Aloha!
Ryan

Right on Ryan,

I saw a few blacktail does in waimea, and at the checkstation it looked like some nice bucks had been taken.  I'd really like to connect with a pig on my next trip.  I'll give you a shout before i come over, maybe we can hook up.
