I want to install quiver inserts in my one piece Black Widow PA. I have a TF riser with them for a location guide. Just looking for advise on installation and especially how to ensure a good seal so no water finds its way to the wood.
Anyone have experience in this?
3Rivers has a short video on how to install. It tells you how to install them and it's very simple. I've done it 3 or 4 times per the video. Good and informitive. Ben
Call Mike horton with the knocking point. He sells a set made by martin archery that you simply put down in the hole and then scew the bolt down into them spreading out teeth to lock it in place. Ive had better luck with these than the glue in type. There about three dollars. The instructions tell you what size of hole to drill.
thanks for the leads. do you seal the holes you drill before installing the insert?
I swabbed the holes with super glue and let dry before using epoxy for the inserts. Mark your drill bit so you don't go too deep, but deep enough. Put a screw in the threads so you can tap the insert in. It keeps the threads clean.
Widow will install them for free if you pay shipping both ways. It's money well spent.
I added inserts to my PLGA last year.
I did not do any extra sealing of the holes before I glued the inserts with 2 part epoxy but a thin layer of super glue would never hurt.
I am assuming you are going to drill into the phenolic. Make sure you have a sharp (or new) drill bit. Mine should have been a little sharper. It turned out ok but the phenolic will/did splinter (like fiber glass). I would recommend putting masking tape over where you want to drill and drill through the tape.
If I did it again, I would also set the drill press to a higher speed in hopes to reduce splintering of the phenolic also.
