Just wonderin what kinds of rest you guys like to shoot. It looks like the the only ones really used are off the shelf with a plate with the bear hair and the other little ones that hold you arrow off the shelf dont really know what they are called.
I have seal skin on one and a leather on another.
i shoot off the shelf . i have just leather on one, bear hair on one, and heavy duty velcro(the soft part) on the other.
Velcro.
Velcro off the shelf....cheap,easily found, and lasts.
off the shelf.make mine out of leather.
T300 with shorty plunger - on my mine hunting recurve.
Velcro has worked well for me, and I really like sealskin also.
I shoot off the shelf with hair rests. Also use Traps feather rest on a couple.
off the shelf on one and feather rests ont most.
Velcro or leather. However I have noticed that when the velcro starts to wear it affects arrow flight. So lately I trim down the "bushiness" first.
Usually sealskin but I didn't have any handy for my most recent bow purchase so I just used calf hair and will keep that on until it needs to be replaced. I don't think it matters really.
Velcro, however I recently bought a BW that has seal skin, seems fine but will replace with velcro, seems to last
Ever sence I started shooting selfbows 20 years ago.I shoot right off the wood.
Velcro on the rest, but I have used Velcro, seal sking, calf hair, and leather on the riser strike plate.
Seal skin
Shot a T-300 1/2" above the shelf & vanes for quite awhile, primarily as vanes are way less expensive and far more durable than feathers.
I recently went back to a simple rug rest on the shelf, with either a leather or rug strike plate, and feathers.
Both shoot well, but off the shelf & feathers gives me better flight and seems more accurate.
Who knows, if I go broke buying feathers and get sick of re-fletching every time I take my bow out (pretty much every day when it's decent outside)I may go back...
I double check my harness, snug up the strap and just kinda "rest my eyes", the snoring is just to fool the critters into thinking I am actually asleep.
velcro off the shelf, bear weather rest, and neet pro rest are what I use
I hope I don't get banned for this, but I set my Martin Jag T/D with a whisker biscuit! Shooting pretty good so far, but the true test will be in a couple weeks in TX with CK.
Seal skin is tough to beat. Velcro works well also.
My longbow has a shelf rest. My recurves have a stick-on rest...Hoyt Hunter. Simple, easily replaceable if needed, very spine friendly, and works as well with feathers as those plastic thingies 8^). I've been using virtually the same type rest since 1967. Works for me.
Been using Velcro. Holds up well,it's cheap enough and can be found every where.
I should have added, my longbow and other recurves are off the shelf with sealskin.
Trap's feather rests or velcro
Off the shelf......with rug or sealskin. I keep meaning to try the velcro thing, but I have to first get past my distaste for that stuff when used on clothing.....it does make a lot of sense for use on a shelf.

Setup some vanes. The feathers were shedding a bit on the whiskers and makin a bit of noise. Am anxious to try them out on some javvies!
Velcro..off the shelf.
Off the shelf and just plain jane leather piece to cover the area where arrow rests.
I'm kinda partial to feather rests, ;)

Trap
Velcro or Calf hair
I think Trap rest are very forgiving, but I like to have the hand as close as possible to the arrow so I like everything that is glued on the shelf and very quiet better if it has low friction.
It depends.
I shoot my longbow off the shelf with Velcro.
I have an old Root recurve I shoot off a home made feather rest.
A few of my other recurves have NAP Flipper II rests with Velcro side plates.
My main go-to bow has a T-300 with a short plunger.
seal skin or elk hair off the shelf
beavertail is my fav
BadKarma Do you use a release as well...LOl :archer:
Hehehe, just the fingers my brother, just the fingers. ;)
I use velcro or leather.
Bear weatherest
Bear hair on the shelf, Velcro on the side.
BadKarma, does the Whisker biskut Get in the way of your sight picture???
Like Jason above, I have different rests on different bows. I have seal skin on some, velcro on others, bear - hair on one or two, and two bows have an old Herter's brush rest that look like a rounded set of tootbrush bristles that come out of the side of the strike plate. Those were fairly common back in the day when many bows didn't have the radiused shelf to shoot off-the-shelf.
This is a Bear weather rest covered with mole skin. This is the first bow that I have done this with, I am pleased with the results.

Another vote for Velcro off the shelf. Also, on the side plate. I buy the black industrial strength at Wal-Mart. Stays put and lasts a dang long time.
Used to use the fuzzy velcro...too noisy for me on calm days - lost a chance at a 150 inch buck in Montana that heard the arrow on the velcro. Went to the self sticking moleskin from then on (get it in the footcare area of the pharmacy in wally world).

Been using kangaroo rest and beaver strikeplate. Shave down where I like them and have really been liking this combo. Sealskin still my favorite but hard to find.
My knuckle. No shelf, or plate. Oh Yeah, band aid or tape around my index finger!
Simple set up, nothing to break! :bigsmyl: :archer:
My LongBow Rest now is a MatchStick, Under a Piece of Leather on the Crowned Sight Window Base! :goldtooth:
cordovan leather is hard to beat.

I have used the fuzzy side of velcro and didn't notice any noise Ryan...even in the quiet of my bow room. What kind of noise did you get from it?
Very slight scraping sound. Was a carbon arrow that I spray painted with gray auto primer, smoothed the primer with 0000 grit steel wool, then put 4 or 5 layers of Turtle Wax on the arrow to "sliken" it - so the arrow was smooth. I don't know if I had a little grit on the velcro or a cheaper (rougher) version, or what. The buck was about 15 feet from me on a REAL windstill day and reacted to my draw at about 1/2 way back (he was past my stand 1/4ing away) and I could only attribute it to the rest. May have heard my bones creak, or something, but I can't change them :)

off the shelf,stock zipper stuff.
Seal skin. My last peice, when it wears out I guess back to a Bear rug.
Longbow. Calfskin on shelf.
sealskin off the shelf on both for me
velcro can be noisy depending on the finish of the shaft.
I can hear the draw with my Victory carbons, but no sound with the Beeman ics/Easton powerflights.
