I want to head east a bit and check out the January Archery Javelina season in arizona...but I've never hunted that area before. I've spent some time lookingat maps and what not, and right now my plan is to drive out to the Tucson area and see what I can find.
Anybody have any advise? Areas to check out?

I hunted pigs when I was younger right outside of Wickenburg and got one. The most recent trip was on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation and we just purchased our tags over the counter. It rained all week, we did still see a few pigs. I had one at 12 yards and screwed up, I didn't even draw the bow. I think we paid around $200 for the licenses and fees. We hunted Unit B and it was great pig country, bring a shotgun because there are Quail all over the place.
The units around phoenix are unlimited number of tags and over the counter, no draw. Im not sure how many Javelina are there but there are lots of tags available so they must be trying to get rid of them.
hmmm you guys are getting my brain turning not good have to many trips planned this year!

Units 32/33 are good big areas, East or West of the San Pedro river north of Benson, I've been hunting that part of the river for 23 years, you have to work a little harder but theres lot of Javies. I'm leaving this Friday for a week. Good Luck. :thumbsup:
Not unit 21, whole giant herd of ATV's. Even driving around the yellow road closure signs!! :banghead:

I live in Colorado and will be going Javelina hunting in Arizona next week. There are leftover tags available for most (if not all) archery units. Go to the Arizona Game and Fish website (http://www.gf.state.az.us/), click Big Game Draw at the top and you will be taken to a page with a link to leftover 2010 Javelina tags. The season is Jan 1-21, so you better hurry and buy your tag! The non-resident price is about $250 for a tag and general hunting license (required). As Larry says, Units 32, 33 are most popular, but have relatively high numbers of Javelinas.
They are a bunch of fun, I have a tag for this month and have spent the last 3 days chasing them around. I think most of the southern units hold a lot of Javelina. The only units I have ever chased them in are 34a and 34b. I believe there might still be otc tags available for this year.

I hunted in the Wicox area 10 years ago.
6 guys we killed 4 javies and two Coues deer (all traditional).
We hunted the ground behind the prison.
Had to go through check gates/security.
Saw lots of javies, and deer (coues and mulies). We stayed at the Wilcox Desert Inn ($30/night). Clean comfortable, catered toward hunters.
