Well, I am pulling the trigger on some new arrows. I am still very new at this recurve thing, so need a little advice. Right now, I am shooting a Browning Wasp. It is 48lbs at 28" and I have no clue if the shelf is cut to center or past or anything. I now what arrow, and how I am going to build it, I just am not sure what spine to get. I am going to get Beman ICS Bowhunter shafts. I am going to put 275 grains out front counting insert, and piont. Please help me determine if I need 400 or 500 spined shafts. I tried the Stu's Spince Calculator, but can't make heads or tails outa how to use that thing!!
I shoot 500's thru my old 50#@28" Wasp, and they seem to shoot pretty good.
Beman MFX 500 29 1/2 in. 100 gr. brass insert 125 gr. point.
29 in. draw 42 lb. longbow.
Tuffist arrow I have ever shot. Pass thurs on last 3 deer I have shot at. Magnus SS Snuffers.
I use 500s and 225 up front in my 45# Great Plains. It's cut to center. If you string your bow up and hold it to where the string is in the center of the limbs, you can tell how your shelf is cut. Keep the string in the center of the limbs and sight from the string to the shelf and see where the string lines up on the shelf.
I don't know if you can make any sense of what I'm trying to say. Someone will be along shortly who can explain it better than me.
I gave away a browning wasp and I'm pretty sure it is cut to center.
rustyfence, do you draw 28". I think the wasp is cut 3/16 past center.
Give me your draw length and i'll run the numbers on stu's calc.

I did the line the string up in the center of the limbs thing, and it is either cut to center, or just a hair past center. I just eyeballed it. Could not figure out how to accuratlly measure it.
I am drawing to 28" according to the the shops measuring arrow I used to check it.
The Wasp is a late 60's, early 70's vintage and will be cut to center. They had better sense than to cut past center back then.

Wow!! This thing is that old? It sure does look outstanding for being that old!!
And she is a sweet little bow, too. I like 'em every bit as much as I do the Bears from the same era.
Ad Trads. You can shoot anywhere from a 40# bow to a 75# bow and they fly great . Give Ted at Raptor a call..Besides they are one of the strongest arrows I have shot yet..IMO
The 500 spine will work just fine for your setup. For the price you cannot go wrong with Bowhunter shafts.
As everyone has said I believe the 500's will be good. If you want carbon I'd recommend the Trad Only's from 3-rivers. I have four bows all around your poundage and they fly great from all.
3-rivers has a test pack you can buy with various sizes just to make sure. If you buy the trad-only's in the 500 spine and don't like them, I'll buy them from you as long as they aren't all cut down. I'm in need of more.
