It's a new year, so lets see some 2010 trail cam pics. (http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss101/blackfeather48/CDY_0524.jpg)
This shot is better if you angle your screen up. There is another buck in the background.

Got these off of my homebru camera last night. Mind you, these deer are on my property by my house and they are off limits! Thats the only reason I feed them. No hunting the wifes deer.
OK,first there was one:
He looks like a warrior. He's a 12 point with a couple broken tines.
And then there was 2:
I've seen the 8 twice before, but have never seen the other one. One more for cabin fever:
Just to show some people the sensitivity of a homebru camera, look about 2 oclock: The bird is about 20+ yards away.
And when he takes off:

I would have liked to see the reaction of that first buck in Ritchie's pics after the camera flashed in his face!
He may still be seeing spots! :D
So......I've been working for a bit and was totally stoked to get my card outta the camera this morning. I was very excited when I saw all the tracks and the moose bed 6 ft in front of the camera! Imagine my disappointment when I opened the camera and realized I DIDN'T TURN THE DAMN THING ON!! I'm such a putz.

Oh my, When did your archery season end Chris?
My 400 fps bow is enough to shoot through anything! :knothead:
I'm surprised the deer cant pull it out with its teeth?
I put this one on a wallow. Ended up with more deer pics than hogs! The deer weren't using the wallow but they walked by it alot.
Too cool Biggie...I like those odd colored mudders.
How's this for a spectrum of colors?
I like red hogs!!
We turned a huge red boar out 15 years ago that some dog hunters caught. He was a bad a&&. He killed two dogs when they caught him. He got out of the pen they put him in and they turned the dogs loose to catch him again. He met the dogs halfway and killed another. Finally got him up and turned him loose on our place.
We've had red pigs ever since.
Thats Awsome!! Now I really like"em!
I'm thinking bacon. :)
WOW
good look'n hogs Biggie ...
my Mom was a hot tempered red head !!
Some more colored pigs.
Can someone tell me why the color change near the end of the vid?

ooops, Sorry Guru, forgot to resize.
Heres the pic again.
Our season ended December 31st.
I guess 400 fps isn't good enough when the arrow weighs 400 grains, lol
Someone needs to find that deer and either pull the arrow out or drop it, especially if it is walking around your part of New York.
yeah I'm trying to decide what to do about it. I actually got another pic of it about a week ago. It seems OK but I feel bad. Its gotta be painful. Im not too fond of trying to shoot something out of season but I feel bad about leaving it.
There's that danged quartering away shot again....

Awesome pix Buddy...."Big Red" must have been poplar with the ladies!
Do you kill many on your place?
im thinkin i wanna hunt pigs with mr. biggie hoffman...
Curt, you should know...you've hunted there 8-)
Arrow30...if you can put me on a buck like your avatar, I'll take you every weekend for 5 years or until you cry Uncle!.
thats the world record, found dead here in mo. if i could put you on one like that i would.
Biggie are those Georgia or Florida hogs??
Bill, these are Georgia hogs...prettier than Florida hogs and they taste better too.
One of the adult does I killed this year had 6 inches of an arrow with a "Spitfire" mechanical stuck in that same spot from last year. "Stuck" to the ribcage by scar tissue and No limp or signs of disease. She'll break it off and you can shoot her in season next year :) Cool pics everyone!
Looking at these photos is not good for my cabin fever... Thanks for sharing... sort of :)

Got'cha! Word is those hogs are needin' scuba gear
I thought they might be in Georgia. When are you gonna get out and shoot one for us Biggie? So we can see em' up close and personal...
There was a line in a movie once, something like; "I kill one bout anytime I want to"
There are some good things about living in the south!
Guru, yep, that was the case but the water is back down now. You wouldn't believe the rootin on the main road!
I like that Biggie-good one.
Right now I'm getting fox, coyotes and racooons....this one was kinda neat.....

Santiam, you've got to be "culturally-sensitive"... Perhaps that bear was the type that demand payment for having their photo taken.
Maybe it was a movie star bear, and tired of paparazzi.
Lots of blacktail bucks (a few hawgs) and small bulls showing up, and of course the bears are roaming all over this time of year.

Just like my wife. Way too much time in the bath. That is really cool!
Neat bro! Where was that at? Looks like the little camera is working!
I thought there was a thread already started but I can't seem to find it. Went out to our 23 acres to check on the "Trophy Rocks" I put out. One was all gone, I replaced it, and I had over 100 pics on my two cameras. This was the one that got me enthusiastic. We had a very poor deer season last year here in NH so I am relieved to have about 8 bucks that I can identify and a bunch of does coming in. Best Spring sightings since we got the property. This guy has nice bases and we still have a long growing season.
Curt: I just got new limbs for my DAS riser from Border two days ago. I hope I am dialed in for Muzzy...I guess I need to be because we'll be in Maine bear hunting a few weeks after that.
Here's another pic, btw, from my friend Todd (Birdbow, here) who lives about an hour away. We have been testing different mineral lick formulas and blocks. So far I have found the Trophy rock to be the best attractant.

keep'em coming
This is killing me. I'm up in CT until Sep and I'm missing being able to drive an hour and be sittin in my stand waiting for a hog to wander by. Every time out I'd check the cameras and it was like Christmas. Only a couple more months!

It's hard to tell in this picture but this bear is really blonde.
He needs to grow up for a few more years
I really enjoyed the dusting sequence!!!

My goodness K.S.Trapper...Those are some Loooooong beards!!!!
Hey, David, do you get the feeling things are a bit better this year? On our little place in Barrington we are seeing lots of sign and seem to jump deer every time we go out there.
Here's a few I pulled this afternoon. Gotta remember to reposition the camera next time!

Seriously Tracy! I haven't seen a beard on a turkey like that in years. Great pics.
Thanks Chris and Jacob, I thought they were nice too.
I sure like seeing them big guys :bigsmyl:
Tracy
Love the dusting turkeys Andrew great shots.
I hunted Iowa for the first time last year. Found this spot, set my stand and camera up and planned to hunt the next morning. I hunted the next morning and after the hunt check my camera to find this boy was there just a few hours after I left.....

Awesome pics, Treekiller.
I think its about time I put the cameras out..... probably this weekend.
Put out a couple of my cams on mineral licks last week. Ran them yesterday. With over a month of growing left to go, I believe I'm gonna have a couple that will make the "hit list" this fall. Got a couple more farms to set, but prob give them a couple weeks before I get to em.

It never pay's to be first, after seeing the three little pigs I've been having panic attacks, my wife keeps asking why I keep looking behind me during the romantic times. What I am afraid of though is, those romantic time are so spread out anymore I may forget. I will have to write myself a reminder on my PDA so as not to forget. Thanks a lot metsastaja :deadhorse:

Yeah the same thing happens to me. Seems like everytime I come back to this thread my pics are a different size. ?
"It never pay's to be first" :biglaugh:
I just put my cameras out last week...so I'm going out this week to take a look and then I will leave them longer...just want to make sure everything is working right and really do want to see if I got anything in the last week.
A real problem appears that the one in the middle looks to be a sow.

Went out to our property today to check on the blueberry crop (coming along fine...and early) and checked the trail cameras. All the usual suspects have been around and a new little buck that looks like he is going to be a palmated spike horn. Very cool looking little guy.
Here's a slightly better look at his headgear.

Bill it's nice to see there's a few different deer on your property this year, I'll be checking cameras here in the next couple of days, I'll let you know how it goes......
Nice buck Dan....
David
David...hoping he's the little guy out there. Had a narly looking one that I couldn't make out and a couple of other smaller bucks. Overall not bad for the first week. I'll check next week and then leave it...had one camera with 1700 pictures had to reset the cameras so they weren't so sensative...learning as I go, these are the first carmeras that I have ever put out. Just found this picture so I know there are 2 decent bucks in there...still think there are some big guys!! (http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/ww96/djanko01/IM000242-1.jpg)

Dave: One of the things we noticed this weekend because the river is so low is LOTS of fawn tracks in the mud. This was the first trip we have made out there this Spring/Summer where we haven't seen or jumped any deer. But on one camera I had 50 pics...only two of which were of a racoon...all the rest were deer. I'm determined to shoot a deer out of my Double Bull this year and I think I have the perfect spot picked out for it.
Looks like another good one Dan.
Bill, I made it out today to check one camera and hang another. Again, more sign than I've seen in awhile, and I too found fawn tracks, which were absent last year. Unfortunately I had an unformatted card in my camera and as a result had no pictures. Looked like a bear messed with it though, as it was sideways on the tree and about a foot lower than I had mounted it. Oh well, I'll check it again in three weeks or so.

There's so much feed this summer after the mild winter and VERY wet spring, the deer and elk are going to be rolling in fat by the time the velvet comes off! I've never killed a non-typical Blacktail, so I hope he sticks around another 50+ days.
Those are some amazing BT's! Quite a spot you've found, hope you get that non-typical. The 4 point looking at the camera is gonna be massive!
He is a cool buck Ron  I hope you get a chance at him. :D

July 4th pic. Just wondering what he'll be by Sept. Unfortunately this is my deer spot and my Elk tag is in another unit.
Great bull Canyon!!!
JimB,
Those cat and bear pics are awesome! Being from Ohio I couldnt imagine coming back and finding them on the camera where I hunt.
Can't wait to go back out this weekend to see what my cameras have on them?
I've got some history w/ the 8pt in the background. My son named this deer Bishop 2 years ago. He's 4-1/2 yo now. He's gonna be interesting to watch.
Don't forget the rules Mike the one that names it gets to hunt it.
Treekiller that last mulie is blind in his left eye, see how the flash isn't reflecting from it? Make sure your stand is on his left side, haha
I put my cameras out last sunday. Went out tonight and checked them. Not the best pic's of him but good enough to tell he is nice. I think he is a buck I have some history with, I think I have his sheds from the last two years.
(http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss101/blackfeather48/CDY_0001.jpg) (http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss101/blackfeather48/CDY_0006.jpg)
He's got some nice brows that for sure and a couple kickers too. Nice
Tracy
I like the transparent antler on the smaller buck in the bottom pic.
He was 160 last year. There is a pic of him on the bottom of page 2, he broke off 6 inches of his right brow tine last year. I put a muzzy 4 blade scar on his left front leg bone last fall. I can see it in one of the other pics of him. We had such a hard winter last year I think it will show in their antler size.
Getting ready to go out and see what's on my cameras...if I get a few shots I'll post them.
These are off my lease by the week place, maybe one of you folks will slide an arra thru some of them!! :archer2:

Are you seeing any scrapes over your way? I found my first for the year this weekend. Pretty early....
This isn't a trail cam photo but this is what greeted me when I got up this morning. I couldn't get them all in one photo but twenty birds were at our bird feeders. Four big females and their broods.

That cat was on the hunt, it's belly is sunk in. Looking for a nice tender mule deer to gorge itself on! :nono:
That cat has more than it's belly sunk in.It is gaunt.I get pictures of them in the summer too but none have ever looked like that.Even his neck is withered and cheek bomes are protruding.
A couple of does have found my peaches, along with a pair of foxes. This one isn't full of peaches- she must have twins in there! Swollen udder, too. If she drops them this week, that puts the breeding date in late December, normal for this area.
That mountain lion is neat, just don't have that around here. Just really different. Some real nice bucks from all over...keep them come'n!!! :clapper:
here are a couple from one of my stands. i have a lock-on in the tree on the right side of the pics. i was a little disappointed in the first pic of the small buck until i looked in the background. the other two are respectable.

I didn't put anything on the tree, I found it along a well used bear trail.
It's hard to see in the pics but it has claw marks all over it and it's covered in bear hair

K9..he showed up with a couple little bucks about 9:30pm and hung around till almost 2am, but that was several days ago. Probably never see him in daylight.
My cam is in a big timbered basin surrounded by high ridges, mostly wanted to find the big bull elk I know that are in there during the rut.

He's WAY cool... I really jumped when i saw that pic. He's such a young (2-1/2 ?) deer and the farm I found him on is 600ac w little hunting pressure so I'm prob going to see if we can't leave him alone and see what he does next season. That 6x6 was passed on there last season.
I pulled the camera on the 1st 2 pics, gotta move it to the other side of the farm to see what we got over there.......
Whats up with the blood(?) on his main?

Lowebow,
Good luck. Looking forward to more pics of him. I hope he makes it another year.
Kenny...I'm sure he just scraped his beam on someing causin the velvet to bleed. They damages stuff pretty easy rt now.
He's an awesome buck and would make some GREAT hero photos!
I've got a 9 point that damaged a tine laying it over at over a 90 deg angle. Wondering if it'll fall off all together.
Send your wife shopping and take the big one. Tell her you had to cull the herd to make sure it would survive the winter. And remember it is eaiser to ask for forgiveness that it is permission.
Kenny, that is one big bodied deer.
Mike, that was my thought also. Hopin for a droptine????
Dry Creek, He is much heavier than the other buck , looks wide up and down!
If anyone gets him,we'll have to weigh him!
This is the best pic I have of this buck. He was moving his head alot. Still learning with this camera.

Thats a grey fox Mike!! Great picks too
Tracy
Great pics everyone.
Anyone that says the use of a trail cam is a unfair advantage has never used one. I have 2 nice bucks I've been trying to get pics of with no luck. I saw one a hundred yards from my camera the other night but he didn't go by my camera. I'm started to get a little frustrated.
(http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss115/earljeff/bullwinkle2010-2011006.jpg) HE'S BACK AND BIGGER AND BETTER THAN LAST YEAR.
Thats a serious deer Earl!
HE MAKES MY HEART GO PITTER PATTER
Bird Feeder Buck rules!
Nice pics everyone!
I don't use it to get any advantage, only to be out there and see whats around!
My stands are usually nowhere around where the cam is,it stays out of the thick of things so all my trips to the cam don't ruin a good stand spot.
I'm the same way Kenny.
That's a dandy Earl, post a pic of him last year so we can see his progress.
Nice buck Earl!
That bird feed builds some *nice* antlers!

I am pretty bad about using my trail cams but I set this one out a week ago in a tree stand location I have. One night I glassed 6 bulls in this stop. I had a few of these boys come in for a pic. Jim I need the gps coordinates :) Great bulls!
I have a SD elk tag this year and those elk pic's are getting me fired up.
wapiti792 that blur is probably a bat. I have seen moths do the same thing- not sure if that is a grey fox or a cat...

Looks like he's put on some tine length, but lost a point on his right side. Always amazes me to see them from year to year and how they change. Some have a lot of change and some are almost identical. Good luck with him.
If I only had a GPS I would. :dunno:

Walkin' away he looks bigger. No idead what that blurb is.
The blurb is what is called a 'Rod', usually an insect that was flying past when the shutter triggered.

Nothin like havin a history w/ the deer you hunt.. To me it makes the kill that much more bitter sweet as you feel like....well like you've lost a friend...
It's a hard to explain feeling of joy and sadness rolled into one...
I hope you catch up w/ this rascal this year!
K9 Nice...hopefully you will get a crack at him this year! How about the wide racked Ms bucks...Nice!!!

What's he eatin,green persimmons?
Good pics!
Varmint,
How old do you reckon that buck is? Good brows and tines, but he don't look that old bodywise.
I don't know if he's just 3 or if he's 4. He's got some junk on his bases. Just not sure. I do know I'd take the shot lol!
Some pics from one of the farms I hunt.
This fox appears in about half the pics on this cam.
I think this is a doe, but it kind of looks like it's got spikes.

Lastly some does and fawns.
I saw a 10 and a 6 on this property last year, but on the other side. I moved the cam and will check back next week.
K9, I think his body may fool a feller on the rack, bet there will be no ground shrink there!
I have a couple pics on page 21 of him.
Heres a couple more I had of the dude...

Here's a nice youngster....
Here's my favorite photo of the week. I set up a DB blind (it's right behind the deer) and was pleased to see 172 pics on my camera. This was the coolest because we have had the cameras out for quite a while and didn't know we had a doe with triplets.
I was looking thru the pics again and apparantly the fawns have no problems with the blind. One seems to be looking right in!
It seems I may be spending a fair amount of time in that blind. I found another pic with a deer almost rubbing against it....look over the buck's shoulder!
Bill ,the triplets are neat, must be good stock and a mild winter!!Great photo  !!
Ron, compared to last year this year looks real good so far. I am surprised that in all the pictures we got we only have this one buck. We know of several others in the area. Like I said, looks like I'll be spending some time in the blind. My goal is to get one from it this year...even if I never sit in a tree stand at all.
By the way, it was good to meet you at the Muzzy. Would like to have talked some more...maybe next year.
The buck I posted earlier. I believe someone named him the bird feeder buck. Has finally made another apperence and he brought a friend with him. (http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss115/earljeff/BW2.jpg)

South Central Missouri the last two weeks. Just need to see 'em during the season! Big woods down there.
Deer lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve them trophy rocks
there some nice bucks John.
Good looking bucks.
A few more from another spot. All does but more on that later.
Just to the right of the picture about 10 yards into the woods I have a blind setup about 7 yards off the deer trail. FYI - I set the time wrong on this cam. It's two hours slow.

I was a little disappointed to not see any bucks, but as I was leaving I stopped by another field not far from this spot and there was a group of 12 bucks in a the field. I watched them for about 30 minutes. They were all still in velvet and most of them were young bucks. A few small 4's, two decent 6's and one that I never got a good look at as he was in a gully.
Wish I could have gotten a better look at him. Seemed to be a pretty big body and I got glimpses of a nice rack, but never got a full on look at him.
I didn't have my camera with me so I took a pic with my cell and it's worthless. All you see are brown dots.
Still, it was exciting. I have never seen a group of bucks that big, ever... anywhere.
Set this camera two days ago right where I killed my deer last year. I knew there was a least one bigger buck around as we had numerous pics from late Spring. One month to go.
Here he was in early June.

Very nice deer!
Hmmmmmm....you guys getting that swollen neck sensation?
Some gorgeous bucks in KY and ILL...we have them here in OH, but I just haven't been able to get some big ones on the cameras yet!
Compared to the deer we see here, those all look like game farm bucks. Nice Pics and good luck this season.
If everyone keeps showing these good whitetails I just might have to sack up and hunt one some day. Great deer pics guys.

QuoteOriginally posted by bmb:

Depends on the camera, as some of the older Moultie cams and a few others had a bad issue w/ this a few years ago.
I have a couple that will do it, but only under circumstances....most times during that 15-25 min timeframe at 1st light and last light, but only when the cam is placed under a tree canopy...
solid white photos can be from a person or animal being too close to the camera. The flash or infrared glow bounces off the close object and produces a white photo.
If you have your camera direction pointed east or west; there is a chance of overexposure do to the sun.

This is my guess. I sometimes get whiteout photos on my camera for this reason. I don't move it though because where it is set is the best place for it.

I almost died when I saw those pics!!! Don't normally see deer like that during daylight hours.
Finally got a few pics of some bucks but still not the big guy. (http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss101/blackfeather48/CDY_1171.jpg) (http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss101/blackfeather48/CDY_1167.jpg) (http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss101/blackfeather48/CDY_1183.jpg)

Dan I hope that messed up side keeps him alive through rifle season. That would be a cool shed to find.

This little guy is the piebalds fawn from this year. He's not showing any signs of the coloring and I think he is kind of off in his timing as well. All the other bucks I've got on camera are hard horned by now down here

this 8 is name "The Roman" for his nose....
The age of this buck has me stumped as I just started hunting this farm last year. I can't tell how old he really is, as he has a strange looking body. He dispapeared Mid Oct last year after the early ML season and I really thought he was dead.

pdk25 i love those pictures of the bobcats, there aren't any here where i hunt in west ohio. the only one i've ever seen in the wild was swimming across a big lake in kentucky. i couldn't believe my eyes, i first thought it was a beaver until we got close on our seadoos. didn't know they would swim that far. my wife when we got close :scared:
Thanks John. I was pretty happy to get them on camera. Wish the bigger one would have been in frame, though.
Nice pics Pat. Hows that other camera working for ya ?

That buck with the sunrise behind him is a great pic.
Great pictures
I got permission to hunt on 400 acres and the landowner told me bowhunting only, cause of the house close by. I told him, "NO problem!!"

On one hand, I think there's at least a 50% chance I could get drawn on him, on the other hand... I don't think I could let it fly if I was on his bad eye side....
I ain't fooling nobody, with that rack I'd probably short draw and shoot low and just feel stupid!!! After looking through all these pics... I will probably only be slinging arrows at slickheads!!!!
Just making Pope and Young minimum is an accomplishment in GA...
I need to go out of state just once and hunt where the deer GET BIG RACKS!!! Just get it outta my system...

Yes i would love to see him out of velet also, should be any day now.We will be checking cams this weekend also, should be some striped clean.
I've had 3 bucks so far with no velvet. 4,6, and an 2yr old 8.
Tracy
I like that buck and the time on the bottom of the first pic.
I love my Moultrie camera's but they sure won't keep time. This camera is about a hour off time but I didn't reset it, I try to get in and out of this spot as fast as I can and not spook him.
He's been giving us some morning and evening daylight pics too. I hope it continues!!

First buck I have seen on this property save for a spike. Already out of velvet and while the rack is kind of small he's got a pretty well muscled body.

Hey Ed,
Man! It's literally been years my friend.
Those are some awesome trail cam pictures.
Thanks for sharing them.
God bless,Mudd
fellows, i thought i'd post this website. you can download the program and get a rough estimate of what all those bucks would score in your trailcam pics. i've used the program on a couple of mine and seems to be fairly close. i think the computer score may be a little conservative, but close none the less. enjoy!
http://www.buckscore.com/
Man you guys that live up north have some really nice bucks running around. I have been hunting in Alabama for 32 years and have never saw anything like what you guys have on film.
I would venture to say at this point that some bucks are NOT worried about camera flash. You've all heard it- read it, etc about pulling flash cameras because they spook deer- I think Tracy's pics can put some of that to rest..... how many times has that sweet looking- MATURE buck posed for the trail cam? Apparently he just wants to be famous (plus I think Tracys got him figured out a bit) and we are all just waiting the pic w/both of them in it together ;)
Checked my two cameras today. Tomorrow the season opens but until Oct. 1 it is bucks only. Have not been seeing too many bucks this summer but that seems to have changed a bit...as you will see. I have never caught a buck fight on my cameras but got an interesting sequence here.
Notice the buck coming in from behind. He looks like he's ready for a fight.

Goofy...he's 4 1/2. I think I wanna shoot this deer!
David, I sure hope I can get that big guy and my sons get nice bucks too. Charlie Lamb is coming over also and I really want him to get a nice buck before I do.
I have been using the flash camera's for 3yrs now and see no ill effects as far as bucks go. I'm sure a few have shyed away but I have not noticed yet. I thought about getting a IR camera just for the video I could shoot but I really like the color photo's over the black and white.

Curt,I think he is cool too. Thats him on the left.
I don't know what to think about this guy. This area is just a trail under some acorn trees. No food plot or salt lick.

Cecil, that is one heckuva buck, considering the body size of deer up there!!
Kenny he's the biggest I've seen on this piece of land in 10 yrs. There's one just a little smaller then this one and at least 4 others that are 8 points or better sure looking forward to seeing him when I'm in that stand.
We hunted up around Thief River years back,a bud shot a doe that matched body size with most bucks in MO :scared:
I took a doe out of that stand 2 yrs ago she went 165 on my scale dressed; Theres some good genes in the area thats for sure''
Here is a couple...

Sure hope I get the same 8yd shot at him again in a couple weeks!

This a buck we call big lefty.
!!!Cool buck bud, but you have to re-size no bigger than 640 pixels!!!
Thanx
Hey Ed this is a family friendly site. We don't need to see bears doing their sexy pose!! :jumper:
Ed! What the...?
Is that the bears tounge hanging out?
If those are apples laying in a pile behind the bear, they might have gone a little "hard". I think he's drunk!
OkKeith
That's her tongue alright. These bears are playing hob with my deer feeders this year. maybe those apples did go a little hard ;)
This is a buck we call big lefty.

Not long got myself a trail cam, first pics of an animal in the bush, unforunately not a deer, but may interest you blokes, happy with the pics off a cheap camera,Wildgame ir4, just cant get the bloody thing to read too the SD card, which is driving me nuts, contacted them but they are slow getting any thing back to you.
Hopefully a nice Sambar stag will be the next post.
Cheers

Wal,
Try to "Format" your card on your PC and if that doesnt work, try to format it on the trail camera itself. It may be using a different format (J.peg or something) If its an older card it may not be compatible with your new camera.
Thanks doeboy, I am not real flash with technology, I'll suggest this to my 15 year old and ask him to have a go at what you have suggested.
Thanks again
Cheers
I this first pic there had just been a doe hanging in the tree just up wind of this guy.

First buck of the year. Saw this guy in velvet a month or so ago. Nice deer.
Appears this buck was hit in the road Sept 29. Two days before deer season. Got a pic from the neighbor. He was pushed from a pumpkin patch by some pickers about 5PM. RIP buddy:
Sorry I deleted these because they did not save the right size and were too big. I will work on re-editing and get them up soon!
mparks I am having trouble matching the dead buck with the live pictures- doesn't look like the same buck. The brow tine on the its left antler looks too tall compared to the live deer; and the right side brow tine -looks like it is attached further up the beam.
I hope I am right and you get a shot that can prove it.
Trail Cam pics are neat, and i've had fun with my new camera, but the bait piles and feeders really detract from it all.
Best activity I have seen this early since I started using a trail camera.

Droptine-Those are some smoker bucks! Hope to see one on the ground.
Curt I am gonna say 8.5-9 inches. That is a very cool looking buck.
Curt I'd guess somewhere around 8.5" also.
3rd 8.5 inches. Let us know if you get him
Droptine82 ,
The time on some of those pics are as exciting as the bucks themselves.... Nice pics..
Mike
Thanks and yes it was surprising and even more exiting to see some of them coming out in the day. I am very blessed to have a great landowner that allows me free access to over 3000 acres. I only have to try to call in every coyote around and that is not a problem! (TRYING)
drptine
why is that buck standing over a corn pile?
Biggest 8 I have ever seen here.

Same scrape I've been getting my pix from. A lot of black pix also, when the batterys get low on this cam, the flash doesn't go off. I got about 20 other black pix, I'll never know what they were :( :knothead:
But I've doctored up the scrape with some Smokey's pre-orbital, and interdigital scent.
Also have fresh batteries
Can't wait to see what happens
droptine
Aren't you in Kansas on like 3000 acres of private ground? You really need to bait them to take their photo?
Nice pic Curt...Good looking buck.
4,000 acres of private ground! Dont want to get into it either you like the pics or you dont. I bait!
droptine great pics and great bucks! Good luck to ya!
Thanks steadman! Checking cameras first of next week so I hopefully have some new bucks to put up!
Very cool pics Droptine82... keep them coming..
I need to post some pics here - maybe when I get to my cam I can get some interesting pics. I put out some smokey's preorbital and interdigital lure and a mock scrape so we will see how they react. So far on that feeder there has only been one scamble buck so if a new one shows up that will be cool - or if the little scramble works the scrape that will be cool too.
Great pics all - this is truly a fun thread.
J
Great pics droptine! Good luck on'm this season.
Sweet pics Droptine.
I don't care how you got them, those are some NICE critters there.

You can legally put bait out here in Missouri to supplement their diet or get pics on trail cam, but it must be all gone or removed 10 days prior to hunting that area.
I'm heading north tomorrow and taking my trail cam with me. I hope to have some pics to post here when I get back!
BTW- Lot's of nice pics from all of you, keep em coming! I love trail cam pics!

When you gonna put one of those on the ground Varmint?? C'mon....what are you waiting for? :archer2:
I passed on an 8pt. exactly like that one in the top pic last year....twice. Once during bow season and once during rifle season. We were letting the younger bucks walk no matter how tempting, hoping they would get bigger and we would have some bruisers on our place in a few years. Then we lost our lease on that piece of property. Had I known then what I know now, I wouldn't have passed him up.
Those are some nice bucks, great pics.

Man you guys up north and out west have some huge bucks to hunt.
I have hunted for 25 years in Alabama and have never seen the kind of bucks you guys have on film, incredible.

Hay I am up north and don't see them around here. I may have to post up some of my big 4 pt's and one horn spikes. Maybe my video of the stump horn with the drop time. Now that is a real trophy. :D
Joe, I live in SE Missouri and used to live up in the North East portion of the state. We have hunted in Montgomery County for the past 15 years and around that area within about 3-4 counties are some of the biggest bucks in the state. Callaway County which borders Montgomery ranks in the top 10 as well as Pike Co. Missouri borders us on the NE corner also ranks high on the list.
With all those statistics in my area, I have only bagged 2 that were worthy of a wall mount in 26+ years of hunting there. Those monster bucks are there alright, cause I see em in the bed of other guy's pick ups every year, but mostly rifle hunters who just get lucky when a bruiser gets stupid during the rut. You don't see near that many monsters getting taken with a bow except for the ones who really know their stuff.
I call this buck El Toro...he's old and fat. I can't believe he's not some booner giant but it goes to show you even 6 year old bucks aren't booners...even in IL. The date is off on my camera by 2 months. I wanna kill this buck worse than any buck I have ever hunted because he is old, heavy in the middle, and smart (like me...except the smart part)
Good luck Mike, those old buck are almost invencible sometimes.
God Bless,
Nathan
Tracy: Those are Kansas Bucks, recognize the body size. I'll be headed up on the 4th. for about 10 days. Order us up some nice cold weather. R.W.

Wich one ya thinkin about Curt..?
Ok I finally got some time to do this. This is my first year with trail cams. I started off out to our farm and have not gotten much at all. Just a few shots here and there with very little activity most places. A doe or two with a few fawns most times. Then there is the never ending coon pics. Here are the big bucks in the area so far. (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/IM000049.jpg) (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/IM000023.jpg)
Then there is this little video I got when I set the camera wrong. It was kind of interesting.
(http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/th_IM000003.jpg) (http://s73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/?action=view¤t=IM000003.mp4)
I set a camera on a scrape used every year on a little postage stamp property I hunt close to home. Most years it gets a little action. Most years I see very few deer in the day, but it is the best place I have to run into a decent buck. Typically the spot is only really good between the end of October and mid November. That is when the bucks cruse through mostly mid day looking for the one or two does in the whole area. I set the camera on the scrape three weeks ago. First two weeks I got about four pic's of a little doe. I moved the camera a little because I though I may be too far from the scrape and not getting everything coming in. It looked to have been worked just a little, but I didn't have a pic of anything on it. So after one week I come back and have like 150 or more pic's. The scrape is double size with three more around the big bush. Looks to be the local hot spot for about every critter in the area. Once the scrape got hot it was like every animal in the area is attracted to it. The best buck I have never seen showed up twice. The second time I didn't get a good pic of him because I think he got ran off by the next critter in the pic. Here is a sample.

Believe it or not I think this is the one I shot this AM about 100 yd. away from this scrape cluster. What can I say? I am a meat hunter and he was at 10 yd. and it was not midnight - 2 am. This has been a real bad season in all my other spots and this spot only has action for about 14 days in a year.
This guy here circled me about 10 minutes after shooting the other buck.
I tried to call him in, but he was not interested.
He then went all the way to the scrapes. When he left he went to the right of the pic and down the brush line. I am in a tree almost strait in line with the center of the camera view. He came all the way back right of this pic, hooked left and caught me tagging my buck. I saw him coming out of the heavy cover directly at me at 11:30 am. I was in some mixed low cover so I tilted over a little behind a bush as I grabbed my bow and got an arrow nocked. I got a draw on him at about 17 yd as he hit an opening while he was circling after seeing something he was not sure about. I couldn't get a good shot in time. He turned and came in closer yet off to my side, but was head on watching me hunch down close over my buck waiting for him to give me a shot. He studied me a while then turned and trotted off not sure what was up. If I only had stayed in the stand 10 more minutes. We walked within 15 yd. of it. That was real close to a season closer morning as far as bucks go. A bad season almost turned 180 in one morning. Of course now what I have seen two more good bucks in the area he could be safe for now.
What? No bobcat? :D seems like a heck of a hotspot to me. And congrats on your deer!
This is 10 acres. It is on a 5 lane road with fully developed commercial property on the other side of the road. On one side of this property is a ROW to 10 acres of over grown field behind this. Next to the ROW is an industrial building. The other side of the property is an over grown 15 acres. All three properties are commercial and all for sale. The bad economy is keeping it huntable for now. They are all tied in with little strips of cover around developments and eventually a no hunting zone one way that is in town. The other way leads to more industrial and housing plats here and there. Believe it or not this scrape cluster is only about 40 yd. from the back of the garage that sets out back of the office building. I used to work there and it is owned by my old boss.
It is not a travel route or a major food source. It has good heavy cover that holds a couple does. It took me a few years to figure out how to work it. Leave the does alone until the end of October and then get in for about four or five hunts and hope for the best. I see one decent 8 a year here and four years ago I saw a nice 10 I almost got, but he didn't give the a good shot angle until too far out. I love this little honey hole. If this was not high priced commercial property I would try and buy up the three parcels. They have great cover and potential. The only problem is most of the year there are only a couple does around and maybe a buck hanging out. Late season I almost never see a deer on the property. If I hunt it before the end of October I will push the few does out and the buck don't show much if that happens. I have two stands and have to watch the wind and only hunt mornings to make this place work. It is a fun spot, but real tricky. Most of these bucks will never be there in the day light. They will he holed up in someone's back yard or in some heavy cover out back of a factory or store someplace. You never know when one could get caught with one of the does on the property in day light so I keep my hopes up.
FREAKY!!

Good ones fellas. I am going to check mine again in the morning after I hunt. I only had a couple new ones last time so I opted to wait to upload more. Tomorrow is going to be my first hunt. I tagged Mary out Saturday so it is all me now. She tagged a nice mature 140 with some short tines saturday afternoon after she let him walk that morning. She couldnt do it that afternoon when he stood directly underneath us for 10 minutes! She shoots a wheely still or I would post his pics! If youd like to see him drop me a pm and I will send it on an un-traditional site! Good luck to all!
Beauty of a buck Djanko!!
Wow, that is a pig Djanko!
Man, he's got some odd points goin on!
Me likey! :goldtooth:

I think I like this buck...this scrape is 100 yards from my barn. I have 8 different bucks on trail cam but he's the best. I doctored this scrape with Smokies.
Looks like a great buck for Ms. Hope there Michael! Good luck!
He's a dandy Michael hope you get him buddy!! :bigsmyl:

Lots of great pics you guys have been getting!
After having major health issues back in August, my trailcams held down a shelf for several months. I finally put one of my cams back up last week on the rubbing post I used last year. Got some good bucks coming in to the post, but the camera appears to be taking a dump as the photo quality turned to crap! :(

Good to see ya back Ron. That is a stud of a buck
This thread is definately hunter porn.
Pulled one of my cameras today and was not suprised to see 720 photos in 4 weeks. However, I did not see the quality of the whitetails like I was expecting due to (imho) disease, drought, hunting pressure. Of the total pictures, 506 contained clear photos of whitetails.
Several 1.5 and 2.5 yo bucks and just a few does made up the majority of the photographs. We only found 2 possible shooter bucks in the whole lot.
This 3yo 9pt:
and this 8pt with a kicker:
Earlier this bow season, I got a call from my taxidermist saying that a large buck from our farm had been killed on the road. He asked if i had any photos of a 8pt drop tine. When i showed him the pictures, he confirmed that it was the buck and my heart broke. I have been watching this buck all year and had my heart set on him. A terrible way to go being hit by a truck. In this photo he is only 50 yds from my blind:
Also on my camera today I found a small buck, who had damaged his antlers while in velvet. It produced some unique characteristics:
And, the best photos of all for this year was this, that same funky antlered buck fighting a 3pt...I captured a whole series of photos covering the fight, the moment of pause, and resuming the fight:

Welcome back Treekiller ... I have missed your great pictures, hope all is going well with your health.
Your Blacktail deer are just awsome ....

It never ceases to amaze me how things can go from bad/depressed to excitement/happy endings in the blink of an eye, that's what keeps me going back again and again. Persistence pays off eventually. Nice find on that secluded honey hole, and if I were you I would keep it all to myself and hope it never sells. Little spots like that can produce big rewards and it sounds like you have a smart way of approaching it, that's just plain good sense, congrats on your bowkill too bad you didn't tag out.....that would have been an awesome morning indeed!
It just goes to show that you don't need 500-1,000 acres to have good hunting success, but sometimes you may need to settle for less and it doesn't take away from the experience in the least. I live on 20 acres of mostly pasture with some wooded draws and cedar trees, and deer country it is not, but that doesn't keep me from planting a 1/2 acre food plot every year, and every year I see deer. If you plant it.....they will come. :saywhat:
:clapper: :goldtooth: Yeah! Ron's back missed ya buddy, Great picks as always.

Doesn't Cuddeback have a lifetime warranty?
As expensive as they are.......they dang well should. While on that subject, don't buy Nikon range finders or binos because they don't warranty anything with electronic components.....but I do love their scopes.
I am using a $100 Tasco that is small, cheap but takes as good a pics as any I have. I just ordered 3 more to add to the herd.
Don't buy Nikon binos? That's all I use, and I've been satisfied with them for decades. None of mine have any electronic components, but it doesn't matter anyhow because they have always performed to my expectations.

You all are killing me with all these nice buck photos! Good luck to all of you and I hope you get to chose which one of those monsters you want to take.
I don't have that luxury and it's mostly like a lottery for me, but at least I'm still breathing and walking and I relish every single minute that I can sit in the woods. Thank God for deer season!

I know exactly how that is. I got a couple good buck on a trial cam, but never have seen anything like that while hunting. I totally agree with the last part after last weekend. You have no idea how much I agree with that.
The last 4 days saw a lot of action at the rubbing post. I chose these to share with yall...

That big 3 point BT with the eye guards is a STUD!
I thought black tail had small racks?? Those look like mulies!! Wow!
Ron, please tell me about the rubbing post. Did you plant that in the ground yourself specifically for the deer to rub on? Is it cedar, or something else?
My brother lives in Texas and he said the bucks have nothing to rub on besides cactus and mesquite. I told him he should install a rubbing post and cedar is a good option because the bucks love the smell.
Is that what you did?
Ron what you need is a big blacktail on your cams :) Nice pics! Looks like you got your camera fixed. Thanks! As you know I want to hunt those critters so bad. Your pics make it worse :p

The forest service uses these pressure treated posts for the road signs. They have a distinct petroleum odor that the rutting bucks and bears can't resist.
There's some posts that have been rubbed in two from years of abuse. I've wanted to hang a trailcam on some of them for years, but figured somebody would find by the road and either steal or vandalize it. I finally found this post on an old abandoned road that isn't drivable any longer.
For several years it wasn't getting touched, but I began putting scent on and near it and last year they began using it. You can see one or two of the bucks were scent marking before or after their visit.

No, it just worked better for the night pics this time. The daylight pics were crappy, anything with snow or white parts of the deer were red, blue, and yellow, really psychodelic actually!
Awesome Ron!
Here's a couple of pretty good pics I got this week. Not deer but I really like the pics. I posted them on another thread but wanted them to be on this one, too....just for the record.

Thanks for sharing that. I hadn't really even noticed them urinating until you pointed that out, they are definitely leaving their calling card to let the other boys know who's been here.
Must be kinda like writing on the bathroom stall door? :)
Nice pics Bill, that's a beautiful 10pt. or 5x5 however you all up in NH describe them. That doe has got to be one of the fattest does I've seen in a long time! What the heck are you all feeding them up there? She's a pork chop!
Here are a few from earlier in the year. Never could catch up with this big boy during the season, Keenan

Great buck Keenan! WOW!

Looks like your set on turkey breast this year Mike. Man, they are close too, I hope you got a blind in the edge of that field.
That's one thing I can usually count on and hit a big zero on this fall. I had turkey in my clover this summer, but they disappeared around the middle of September and I can't find them anywhere. I going to blame the over abundance of acorns again for that, just like my deer pulling a Houdini on me.
Checked my USFS road sign post again yesterday. Been lots of activity from a dink spike to a 160" hawg!

Semo: About that fat doe on the previous page. She's been around since about '06 and I've had some encounters with her. Here is another pic of her in all her glory. Would surely like to get an arrow into her and I'm holding on to my doe tag just for her. Could have shot her on day one but they held off on doe season for the first two weeks this year. I just knew that would happen when I read the new regs.
Here's my first trail cam pic from '06 about 3/4 miles from where she is hanging now...just on the other side of the same swamp.
Good Gosh! She is a Pork Chop!
That's enough venison right there to feed a small family for a couple of months. I don't think I've ever seen a deer that fat before?
Good Luck......I hope you get her!
Be sure and post pics if you do and weigh her if at all possible.
That's the plan. Would like to get her almost as much as the 10 pointer...but I still have two tags. When the moon darkens and the rut ends they will be back feeding on daylight hours and my pulse will be pounding. When I saw her at 8 yards on the first day I decided right then not to use my doe tag too early. Was lucky enough to take a four pointer for the freezer, as did my wife, so meat is not the goal....ending the story is.
She's an old girl, neat to see in the north country with our long winters and snow depths. She has the good genes to make it. Best of luck to tag her....it may not be that cut and dry.
Ron....each year it has been a different chapter. I hope I get her before nature does. I can't believe she has many good teeth left. Some of the deer here live to ripe old ages. The buck in my avatar was aged by F&G to be 7 1/2 years old and even with a lot of hunting pressure back then (a lot of the land I hunted then is now posted) very few people knew of his existence. Not only that but there is another doe that is obviously younger than this gal that seems to have the same genes....same blocky body, hefty, heavy, short legged and cagey. I'de take that one as well, if the opportunity arises.
That's kinda cool to be able to have ground like that at your disposal where you can target specific animals. I would love to be able to do that myself, however hunting pressure around me won't allow that to happen.
I think the way you are going about the whole process is the way it was meant to be, and it adds a whole new level of hunting to the game. It's much harder to target specific deer in your herd to harvest vs. just hunting a good location, hoping for the best, and taking what lady luck sends your way. Unfortunately, that's how most of us spend our seasons and I'm extremely greatful for what the good Lord sends my way, meat in the freezer is better than nothing at all.
Rarely do I get an oppurtunity to target any one specific deer.......would be awesome if I had that luxury.
Good Luck to ya Bill.......and please post lots of pics when you score!
SEMO
Semo: We got a deal on 23 acres of very wet riverbottom land that was just what we were looking for. Landlocked, lightly hunted on the surrounding acerage and the farmer that abuts us lets us use his old logging roads and river (canoe it when we feel like it). It's remote enough that we can put out blinds, cameras and stands and nveer have to worry about theft....at least not yet in the four seasons we have owned it. What it has taught us is that deer are there, plenty of them, but despite that fact they are hard to come by, even when relatively undisturbed. Our cameras are fun to have and use and despite having them I cannot say that they have helped a lot in "aiding" us in harvesting deer. But I cannot overstate the value of being undisturbed hunters. We have our 23 acres and several hundred around us that rarely see more than a half dozen other hunters. It the other land wasn't posted I'm sure we could do a better job of patterning them. Just found a new trail this week, put up a camera and found that one of my big does on my hit list comes into the property from one direction, circles around a wet area and the cameras we had up led us to believe she was coming in from the west when in fact, she entered our property from the southeast..she knows how to use the prevailing wind. Still have about 3 weeks left and the moon should be darker by next weekend and I expect daytime activity to pick up. I've killed my share of animals on the last day so I will be out there if need be on the last day with the same expectations I had on day one. Thanks for the good wishes and if I get that doe, or one of the other two that are almost as big as her, I will post pics.

Dadgum!! Those are some bruiser bucks guys! Awesome pics........and that little black bear is so cool! It's neat to see him scratching his back on the rubbing post.
We don't get to see that here in Missouri, thanks for sharing.
Hey Jim, did you train those bucks to pose for the camera? LOL
Is that a Martin or a Fisher?? Or are they one and the same?
We don't have those in Missouri either, so I really don't know the difference.
Did you see the temp. Wow cold, cold!!!
that is a Fisher. Pine marten look the same but are quite a bit smaller almost like a weasel.
Great picks everybody!! I thought I would bring this thread back up. I have been so busy hunting that I haven't been posting many picks :D

Boy that's dandy buck in the last pic, but I'm more excited about them Longbeards!! Nice birds!
Dang most of y'all have way bigger deer than we do in NC. It is hard to see a 125" buck around here on trail camera. I put one out several places only got small bucks and does. I did see bigger bucks while hunting and managed to kill 2 3 1/2year olds.LCH
Checked the cam by my blind today and it looks like a new buck has shown up.

Almost looks like four in the top pic. You will have to shoot it and let us know for sure :goldtooth: .
I see 3 beards.
I once killed a tom that had 4 beards, and also a bearded hen that actually had 3 seperate beards. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I knew it was a hen when I shot because we can kill hens in the fall and only noticed the multiple beards when I went over to pick her up.
That was in my younger days though, I rarely shoot hens around here anymore. Not enough turkeys to be shooting myself in the foot.
My buddy in MO killed a turkey a couple of years ago that had seven beards! Several of them were very small, only 2-3", but distinctly separate. There were three that were in the 8-11" range. He only weighed 17#. That one in the picture could have more than you can see.
Oh yes, definitely. You can't see all that's there till you start digging into the breast feathers. He probably does have more that aren't visible.
K.S.Trapper. You need some help this spring thinning a couple them birds. Our population is way down here in s.e.iowa
These were caught on a trail cam set up over a deer carcass near Glasgow Missouri.

Mudd- I also don't believe I have ever seen eagles on trail camera either? That's cool...Way cool.
