Title: Pronghorn TD vs. Horne's combo hunter longbow ...
Post by: Mr.Magoo on January 04, 2010, 03:29:00 PM
These two bows seem to be a similar style.  Anyone own or shot both, and if so, what are your opinions?

Thx.

This is an interesting question. I have been able to shoot both and I have pros for both. The pronghorn is stable and quick. The Horne combo hunter is a little less stable in my opinion(I may be a little bias) but it is a little faster at a comparable weight. The grips are different. The Pronghorn is a straighter grip and the Horne is more of a shaped grip.

They are both made by superior craftsman and guys who know how a bow is supposed to feel and shoot.

I guess the deciding factor would be what type of a grip you are looking for. For me it woudl be the Pronghorn.

Love my Pronghorns. I have two 3-piece takedowns. One is Zircote handle with bamboo limbs stained very dark brown.  The pronghorns are very nice, smooth, quite with great performance.

Thinking about a one piece now....

I have owned both and I agree with FerretWYO. Horne's are a little faster but just couldn't get the hang of the grip, I still own 3 Pronghorn's, they just point and shoot where I am lookin'.
You can't go wrong with either, and customer service from Mark and Sandy or Herb will be excellent.

This is the place for good feedback.  I appreciate the replies.  I actually have 2 Hornes (a Brush Bow and a Ridge Runner), but I'm looking hard at those Pronghorns.

I had both as well. Both are excellant. The Hornes is faster IMO and the pronghorn is quieter by a tad.The limb designs are different. The Hornes is wider and has more reflex..Pronghorn is narrow and deeper cored with a mild R and D limb.

Grips are a personell thing. Some might prefer one over the other.

I find the Horne to be a stable shooting bow.You can get get recurve limbs for the Horne so it is more versatile in that regard.

Both are proven bows and bowyers.

Never shot a pronghorn... have definitly looked them over. Love the looks of them.

But I have brand loyalty with Mark and Sandy. I don't see how any bow can be more quiet than my combo. "A baby rabbit farting in wet grass" I think thats about the best explanation I have heard.

If you like your other Hornes, I would stick with them. Pronghorns grip is very different from the Horne. You need to try it out before you buy.
