The rubs are shining bright,
The scrapes are pawed clean
The wind bites from the north
Its that magical time of year
My bow is hanging ready
Arrow at the wait
My stand high and secure
My feet firm on the grate
Blanketed in wool from head to toe
They say alabama may even get some snow
I sit for hrs and wait
And finally here they come
The does nervously filter by
Tarsal glands black
A good sign
The buck I can not see and I wonder where he is.
When finally I hear footsteps
I wonder can it be?
And then I hear a grunt
And rise to attention in the tree
When he strolls in view
I struck by his mass
My knees go weak
I'm breathing like I've run out of gas
I shut my eyes tight
And I pray humbly to the Lord
Give me your strength
And calm me with your peace
Guide my arrow just behind that crease
In a flash my arrow is gone
Buried tight right in that spot
Before I can think
He's gone from site
I have to sit before I fall
I've got the shakes
and it will not stop
Again I turn toward heaven
And offer thanks for my lot
Lord you are Creator, Provider and Sustainer.
You are my Redeemer, my Refuge and my Rock
You are worthy of my worship
And all I can say is thank you
Thank you for this life
Thank you for this hunt
Thank you for the cross
I love you

I'm often asked why I'm in the woods rather than in a church on certain Sunday's (hunting season). This treestand poem answers a lot. I thank you for taking the time to write this down. I have often told those who give me a hard time about missing church, that there is (at least for me), no greater cathedral in which to worship the Lord God, than in His own creation, that being the woods. I find a great peace in the woods and among His creations, and to this day still am in awe at each sunrise, and every creature I am blessed to see during my hunting endeavors. I too have written down some inspirational poems, and may post here as well. Thank you for this.
I bet you wrote that on stand waiting for deer...... didn't think you had that much depth....lol
Nice!!
