I don't think Bruce Johnson of MA comes on TG much, so I will just post this here. His buddy, Ronnie, who also doesn't come on TG, was surrounded by 20 hogs last night and couldn't get a shot!
I didn't check his quiver though...come to think of it...hmmmmmm
Bill M. was here as well, and the first night had close encounters of the swine kind but couldn't get a clear shot..so he held off numerous times.
wow, that colder than we're having, right now, up here in Nova Scotia, Canada. I didn't realize it got cold like that in Georgia
It's worse than that, Acadian, its only 35 miles from Hilton Head, SC.. the beachgoers paradise!!!
that's also only 1 hour and 45 minutes north of Jacksonville, FL
Thats a beautiful pig Ray.Is his coat extra thick for the season or do those Hog Heave pigs always look like that?Congradulations Bruce.
sounds like the rabbit hunt we had on saturday... but the bunnies werent that big..... cant wait to head down there in a couple weeks!!!
izz, that's pretty normal for a medium size boar. He went 175 lbs.
Four degrees here this morning when I left for work. Two more months and we'll be down there Ray. Can't wait!
That's cold! It looks like the hog is frozen solid!
I didn't realize hogs were even active when it got that cold. Having a honey hole like Hog Heaven pays off!
he was frozen solid, Whip!!! Just hung him outside...the air was colder than our cooler has EVER gotten!
dang thats a nice hog....can't wait to get back down that way again...way to go Bruce!
Hmmm...I could tell the wife I'm taking the family to the beach, drop them off, sneak out with the bow up your way for about 6-8 hrs and be back at the beach....Opps! Just thinking out loud again!! Good plan just don't think the wife would go along.. :biglaugh:
I've got to shoot one hog with a compound a few years ago but I still want to take one with the recurve. Someday I'll get the opportunity. Anyway, that is a nice hog!!
you might should have put him in the freezer to protect from freezer burn! LOL!
Oh man! It hit 24 degrees here in California a month ago and I couldn't think let alone fathom pulling on a bow string! You guys have anti-freeze in your blood to be able to even live in such a cold place!
Judging from that smile on your face you didnt mind the frozen water pipes. Congratulations
Mike
Nice looking hog, I bet it'll be a good eater.
I really have to get down there someday, by all the good posts I need to get in on some of the fun!
Nice hog! Congratulations! The smile says it all!
Wow great looking place need to get down there and chase them with my longbow
Nice pig! I hope to meet up with one like it in a couple weeks!!
looks nice, can't wait to head down for some hog action in may... hope it warms up by then :D
NorthCalHunter

Trade you those conditions & hogs for snow, 20 below, and all big game seasons closed. All I can do is fiddle with bows & arrows and wait till next season...
BTW, congrats on the hog!
Congrats on a nice hog. Looking forward to getting back down there to try. Going first weekend in March, hope it is a little warmer.
ALDO
hey aldo....looking forward to you returning.
Yeah Ray,
the only "Global warming" going on around here is thanks to the Instant-Heat pad I slipped in my skivvies. LOL!
175 lbs is a medium sized boar hog up there, Ray? They must be wearin lead boots!!
Good looking hog ! he is solid looking that's for sure, was that 175 on the scale ? Congratulations !
On the scale. I think he was actually 176...but I was looking up at an angle, and think I read it as 175. We have them twice that big, Marty, and larger. I guess that means its medium sized, if they do come twice that big and are regularly seen.
When you coming?
That fella is 6 foot 4 inches and 260 lbs, just for reference...and you can see his hand holding the bow on the hog's back.
Well then you've got some good hog's there Ray! We don't get many 350lb boar hogs runnin around down here. They do get that big when we remove the loaf of bread hangin behind them though! And makes for much better eatin ta boot! Ya oughta try some of that cuttin- makes a dandy hog. You could sell knives made just for that!
Yep 175lb boar hog on my lease is a good one. Sounds like you've got a honeyhole there! Keep em fed up and those fella's will have a good time. Rumor has it you have a good trail dog too. Some fella's really need that- me included.
I need all the help I can get, Marty, in every way..
Come up...let somebody cook for you for a change. I'm probably not as good as you but I'll watch Food Network a lot on it in the meantime, brother.
Wow we just got back and this is 3 pages deep Ray I cant wait to get back just hope its warmer next time.
Don't sell yourself short Ray...I still wake up in the morning thinking I'm smelling hog sausage. Will be back as soon as I can make it work.
Does this mean Rachel Hammond will be cooking for me or will it be Paula Hammond or will it be the Barefoot hog guide? I can't wait to sample the meals.
Jack
Jack, I hope the swamp gets drier, and the temps move higher...this is about the coldest I've ever been in my life..and I've been to the Arctic Circle in October before.
The air is full of water...and the wind is blowing 25 miles an hour out fo the NW so 17 degrees feels like -17 to me.
Ray we still have time for things to dry out and warm up. I can't wait. Are you going to be in Nashville, if so we will have to tip a few as a pre-hunt thing.
Jack
I was due west of there in the north part of Georgia's southern hunting zone. Was incredibly cold Sunday.
I was comfortable, but the problem is that the pigs and deer were too... in there beds!
All in all I spent 8 days out of 14 hunting from sun-up till about 3pm and never saw the hogs that were tilling up the ground, and never got within Black Widow distance of a deer. But I had a blast.
I had hoped I could get a ground blind in and the weather be hospitable for my now 6 year old to come along, but we ended up still hunting the whole time trying to find them as they were moving looking for those last acorns.
Congrats to the hunter, that was cold weather for sure.
I did see some stupid turkeys fighting in about 20deg weather, actually got some footage on my digital camera. Kinda funny to see them yard birds hammering each other as I was trying to not freeze.
Jack,
I booked a group from Indiana last year, for the week of PBS...CRAPPPPPP!!! I don't have the heart to ask them to change..wouldn't you know we'd pick the EXACT dates of the biannual gathering for a hunt trip.
Dang Ray you are going to miss a good time. We will just have to make up for it the next week end.
Jack
Nice pig, well-done!
COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS TIL APRIL,HOPE YOU CAN SAVE A FEW FOR US..CHRIS
