The new version.... where the hills get higher, the shot gets better, the deer dies in sight, and the drag increases by several miles (all uphill).

Nice deer Bob.

Here's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I spent alot of time this fall preparing for a Moose hunt in Quebec. I was shooting my Morrison Dakota daily and had total confidence. I had a great time and saw some awesome country in Quebec with my best hunting buddy (my father). I used up alot of my vacation time so I tried to time my remaining week of vacation for the rut. I targeted the first week of November as that's when I seem to have some great prerut activity on our 65 acres in Steuben County NY. On Saturday I had a nice buck come by a check a scrape but never offerd a shot. On Monday I set out a couple scent bombs with Tink's 69 on them slipped up my tree. Within an hour I heard some commotion below me just out of sight which I knew was a buck chasing a doe. After a couple of minutes the noise stopped and I figured the deer had left. While still looking into the thick stuff a doe and fawn came up the hill acting real edgy. The fawn was in the leed but the doe walked ahead of her and right to my trail into the stand. As soon as she crossed my path I knew I was busted. She stopped and started stomping her front leg which actually worked to my advantage as the buck below heard it and came up the hill. The doe and fawn the headed down the hill (away from my scent trail) and the buck headed up the hill. As soon as he saw the doe he chased her back down the hill. Now I'm sitting there with the confused fawn right under me. The doe must have out run the buck because he came back up the hill. The fawn saw the buck and figured that if Mom is gone I'm going hang with you now and started following the buck ! They went over to an apple tree and proceeded to eat apples right in front of me but screened by brush. The buck then headed up the hill on the same trail that the buck on Saturday walked with out offering me a shot. That's when he got a wiff of the buck lure below me. He did an about face and headed right under me ! I knew there was no way to turn around and shoot behind me if he got passed me so I took the shot as he walked under me. He bolted down the hill but the Abowyer Brown Bear did it's job quickly and I heard him go down. My Asbell pull over and green wool pants worked to perfection ! It was a great morning that I will never forget !
