Yesterday a buddy of mine and I got together in this balmy 20 degree weather and tried some wooden shafts he had tipped with some flint hunting heads. Chris Surtees had fixed us up with the shafts(Thanks again Buddy), and we had glued and sinew tied them on.Finished arrows, 29" long weighed 620 grains. We shot from 15-20 yds and I was impressed. If my release was good in the cold weather, got perfect arrow flight and sure was quiet! They sunk up in my target as good as my woodsmans on my carbons, stayed sharp even though each one was shot sevral times. I have traded for several sets of these hunting tips, matched up +-5 grains, wanting to try some out, gotta find a state to do it in, illegal here in KY. May end up trading some of them, as I am O/C, tend to go overboard on anything I do, but plan on keeping several sets. Do any of you guys know what all states allow flint tip hunting? All feedback appreciated.
Iowa (if you can draw a tag) has no restrictions on broad heads. They used to have minimum diameter and "no barbs" rules, but dropped them. Come on up and fling some stones.
Cross the river into Indiana. I can turn big pieces of flint into small pieces, just can't get a head to turn out.
Al
They are legal in ILLinois.
Hap
They are legal in Nebraska. Let me know if ya wana come up and give it a shot!
Sam, I'm pretty sure they're legal here in KY. I've never seen anything written to the contrary. Where did you learn that stone points are illegal here?
Legal in Kansas as of last season.
This head will be headed to Tx with me for Javies this month. 10,000+ years of hunters can't be wrong! LOL!

I've heard mixed reviews on stone points and Javies. The hogs down there have a REALLY tough shield so I think they are going to get grizzlys.
There is absolutely no better feeling than taking a critter with a knapped head!

Mr. koger,
Ok in Alaska if at least 1" in width and no barbs, as I recall.
Best Wishes
Legal in TX. One of these days I'm going to make a three point set. Here's some of the rocks I've knapped.

Fido dog,
Wow very nice work!
The only napping I do is after a big meal.
Mike
I beleive, here in KY the law states that the head/cutting edge must be made of steel. Great pics of your knapping fido dog.
Mike, I agree with you...Fido, those are impressive and yes can't wait to eat so I can sleep...LOL...Barry

Sam,they have to be at least 7/8" wide, nothing about it being made of steel...the only thing that may make one not legal is your not allowed a head with barbs on it & the back of a some flint heads could be viewed as barbed..depending on who you ask...
Yes, you are correct Mark. There's nothing in anything I have ever seen that states the head must be made of steel. :readit:  :)
Thanks guys, I have talked with some of my buddies who are fish and wildlife officers, they are looking into it. I was going on old info, seems that has changed. I still have 1 doe tag left, may have to get to huntin next few days!~
wow!!! those are nice heads for sure.
Legal in Oklahoma if 7/8" wide.
Most of mine are for decoration (although they are fully functional). For hunting, I would stick with a good 'ol side notch.....no barbs. Heck..I think I'll make one real quick!
Awesome work guys i gotta try this
