do you guys dip them before you cut the knock out?
I like to do everything before I nock taper so there is clean wood to glue to.The problem there is the shaft my grow lager than what your taper tool will accept.(I go overboard with the clear coats)Unless you're using a power taper tool or a jig on a belt sander.
Thanks for the info on that,I wasnt sure
Here's my current ones. Starting some new ones tomorrow.

Nah. They do happen to match the truck a bit though. My next ones are gonna be a red crown with a white crest, red feathers, and white nock on a natural finish. Similar to G Fred's but a little different.
Here's a few I've done recently.

MJB, I think they are shield cut barred 'Bark'..
Ok guys I started this post yesterday cause I wanted to get into doing this.So today I jumped in with both feet.I found some used feathers and some old paint and went at it,even did the cresting by hand.I can see how this can be addictive!
I have to get some of the good supplies and then get good.
Ah, sweet! I got my Jo-Jan on the 28th Dec, so I'm gathering pics to see what raw material I will ned to order!
Got some more pics today, but it is 02.25 AM so I better get to bed..
I will post another load of pics in about 10 hrs time :)
Good Night! ZZzz..
That cut on the blue and whites is about identical to what I used to get from my "Butler Cut" chopper. Just did a search and couldn't find Butler Archery...they may have gone by the way. I couldn't locate Little Chopper either...can't recall if they include contact info with product but you used to be able order your own custom shapes directly from them. 3 Rivers sells a 3R Swift that's close but not quite. Rick.
My "Stealth Arrows". Feathers are from my turkey kill!!!!!!
Hey Rick. I have a Butler cut chopper that I've babied for years and it's still working great. I think Butlers sold out to Wildcat Archery years ago. Used to see Butlers in Co. and Texas Panhandle shoots many years ago. A very fine feather design I think. You can't see really well but these are Butler cut. (http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm299/bowdart/Midarkshafts002.jpg)
Yup...when I saw the "Stealth Arrows" I thought the cut was Butler, too. Rick.
Talent, alot of artist out there with real good taste. Good job to all!
Awsome looking arrows guys. Love the thread been thinking about doing some arrows mysself and now you are getting me excited
Check out http://www.herbsarchery.com/ on his cut fletchings page. He calls it an "orca" cut. He also has choppers to match, though not "Little Choppers"

You guys have me in the mood to make some more up now.I Have a new Widow on the way so may be I should make a set to celebrate.
True works of art. Thanks for sharing guys
Trad archers have so much talent, and creativity.
Some great looking arrows.
Here are some I made. They're Gold Tip 5575's. I put in white nocks, and used white reflective cap wraps on the ends, and over the writing (they were blems).
Wow!! I cant believe you guys shoot these.Brian I like the gray ones, the blue ones and the purple.
I can 't say wich one is the best looking, they are really works of art and you must be proud of your work. But I really would like to use them to hunt too.
Great looking arrows -- each one more interesting and more beautiful than one could hope to expect. Some great craftsmanship here for sure.
Thanks for posting all of that wonderful eye candy!
More -- More -- Keep them coming!!!!!!

Sweet! The Ol 'Robbin Hood' is always fun^^
I don't think I could shoot arrows that look like some of these the kind of work and time you have put into them to break and loose. They belong in a art show. Widow
Wow, these are beautiful arrows, im going to be making some arrows up soon and the pics here sure helped and gave me some ideas!!
I have never made an arrow I was afraid to shoot. That is what they are made for.
Many I have made have been for people that dont hunt, but thay do get shot. I would refuse to make them otherwise.
The footed arrows fletched with Natural barred and yellow feathers on this page ARE some of my hunting arrows.

Here are a some examples of arrows I made.

Here's my newest ones!!!!
One thing's for sure. Arrow styles have changed drastically from 1957 to now.
Most of the older photos I have seen have parabolic fletching although we think the shields are more tradional looking.
Virtually all of the fletching was natural barred turkey feathers.
Cresting was simple with no trim around the middle of the fletch section or near the nock.
Colors were your basic primary colors.
The arrows of today are mind boggling and a visual treat to say the least.
If I am not mistaken, during times of war the cresting was used by the fletcher as means to identify the individual archer and possibly display the strength or tolerance (spine) of the arrow..
My guess is that in combat, one wouldn't want an archer to get hurt by having a weak arrow..
I am also guessing they didn't much do splicing whilst at war ^^
I already posted these but now I have a pic of them on my bow in action. :bigsmyl:

This is a set I made for my buddy. That is not pink it is salmon. It was originally supposed to be orange but the laquer I had was really old and getting hard and I just added laquer thinner to it to try and thin it and I ended up with salmon. LOL I love these arrows I will probably build a set for myself exactly the same.
These are alot of very cool arrows. My husband is making me some arrows as we speak I'll have to post them on here when he has some done so I can take photos of them. thanks for sharring your arrows everyone.
Having arrows like these would make me a better shot.....I'd be too afraid of loosing them
Any of you arrow builders didn't get in on the single arrow donation for elkherders trad greats signature bow for St.Jude auction and would like to make an arrow let me know we still need three more. Thanks
