Post by: BowHuntingFool on December 31, 2009, 10:58:00 PM
Well this Red Palm wood has caught my eye bigtime. Anyone have a bow with this wood in it, any bowyers ever make a bow with it? Any pros/cons?? Pic would be great!

Thanks!

If you are looking for pictures of different types of wood, and differances in each woodtype,
this is probably the best site on thte net!
They don't sell anything, and the site is not fancy, just A LOT of woodpics!

+ a direct link to red palmwood here :

I will make a thread in PowWow, listing it, since alot of people here might benefit from it!

The Hobbit House link is an excellent one.  Here is another that I use that also lists specific gravities for the different woods.

Red Palm has a SG of .56, which compared to many of the popular riser woods is pretty light.  I don't know how strong it might be and how suitable for a riser it might be.  Might make a good limb veneer!

Thanks for the Link guys! I tell ya, I like the Red Palm even more after checking out the websites!

Joe, thats what I was thinking, more for veneers and some accents! I'm thinking match that up with some walnut and BAM, next bow combo!!!!!!!!

Good find Joe, can't wait to see your next bow wood combo!

The wood almost looks porous.  It would make a thing of beauty and good camouflage.

Don't know that you could use for veneers.  Is is very porous and the specks chip out easily when using tools.  Would make a great looking riser if stabilized.

Yeah, that what I've been reading, it takes VERY sharp tools to work this wood and the need to keep them VERY sharp!

I agree Charlie, good camo but might be a pain to work with!
