How do you hold your arrow on the rest using a rubber band and a match stick?????
I use a toothpick, but same concept....

I drill a hole in the riser and insert a 1/8" brass rod in it with CA glue and use the little hair tie rubber bands from the drugstore.
Works great.
I do like Kris....here's a pic for you to see it. It is real easy to do.

Sorry about the out of focus. The rubber band is attached to brass rod on one end, and other end will pull of when the bow is drawn, freeing the arrow. I usually flip it off with my finger, though, when I anticipate a shot.
Good ideas, it goes to show where there is a will there is a way.
I like the toothpick idea, I will have to try that.
So, with the toothpick thing, when you draw your bow, you lose the toothpick and rubber band?
All my hunting bows have the small pin glued in the back of the riser like Mark and SnS have. Just simple and it surprises me that no(or very few) bowyers offer it. I use a small piece of coat hanger but any pin material would work.

In theory that is the way it is supposed to work. But I have found that often it doesn't come off by itself and then it can mess up your shot. So I either take it off and stick it in my pocket if I have time, or simply flick it off and let it drop. I'm cheap, but even I can afford a few new ones every season! ;)
I tried the rubber band toothpick method once. As I drew on a deer and the toothpick hit the forest floor the deer went on high alert from just that slight abnormal sound. Of course when you shoot at a Bama deer you have to shoot where they are going to be after the shot not where they are when you draw on them. They stay wired to the max.
wow...I like this idea! So simple.
Thanks!
I keep rubber bands in my day pack and just whittle my own toothpick. Gives it that "traditional" look! lol
"Necessity is the mother of invention", don't know who said it, but here's credit for it.
Trad archers come up with some of the most innovative ideas, and most of them work.
I'm going to give the rubber band and tooth pick a try.
Thanks
I was wondering about it messing up the shot by tangling or not coming off. I also wondered about the thing hitting the ground spooking the animal. Good post.
Learn something new every day they say! and I just did - what a trick.
Thanks yall,
J

i think Tippit (Doc) posted this awhile back and i just found my pictures that i saved from that post.
I use a flipper rest cut the bottom so it sits close to the shef about a 1/4" its holds the arrow in place and its just high enough to help the arrow clear the shelf.

Great idea(s).. Looking forward to trying it. Love the doe captured in that photo too.
This is a great idea.
Hunting with Jim Jones, bowyer of Firefly LBs- I noticed he actually just taped the toothpick/matchstick to the riser (one wrap of electrical tape). After the season it comes off. . . good idea.
I hold my bow so I've never reallly had a reason to worry about it, but thats a pretty cool idea!
