I would email Teresa Asbell and ask her.

I've heard that the best way is to call Teresa and she will fix you up.  Might want to think about a slightly larger size for layering underneath.  I've had my eye on one and may have to go ahead and pull the trigger.

I'm 6 feet tall, weigh 225 and the XL fits me perfectly with a bit of room for layering.  I would not suggest you go any smaller than that.

I just talked to Teresa a few days ago. I concur with David based on that conversation. I'm 5'11" & 190# and she recommended a large.

The Asbells are usually at Kzoo, which is coming up in a few weeks. Show up there and you can try them on before purchasing. I'm going to be looking for one myself...unless I can talk Dave out of his.  :bigsmyl:

I'm 6' and 190lbs and am usually right between a large and x-large. The large is plenty big for me (long sleeves) and I have some room for a sweater under it if I want, but nothing else. If you want more room order the x-large. Teressa is great to deal with and I had emailed her about the size prior to ordering - she was spot on - go figure

Do any of you guys know what oz. wool material these garments are made of? I'm trying to get an idea of how heavy they are. If not I'll call and find out.

RLA, MILevi,
After buying two of the pullovers, the answer is call.  The different wool patterns are different weights as I found out when I got mine.  Mrs. Asbell can tell you what each are. One of the pullovers was a little lighter than I would have preferred, but still good for the money and as long as it was used as a layer would still function as intended.

I ordered one last week over the phone with Teresa, she said the Brown wool is the heaviest, then the grey is second heaviest! I believe she said the brown is 29oz and the solid grey is 26oz.... I wanted the timber ghost but wasn't a heavy weight!

by the way, I ordered mine a 2 days before christmas, she had to sew mine up and it got shipped this AM, great service if you ask me!

They head to Florida on the 6th.... get your order in asap!!!!!!!!!

I just got my pullover shirt from Teresa yesterday.  I am 6' 220lbs. (including recently acquired "Christmas weight") and the XL fits me perfectly.  When the Christmas weight is lost, there will be more than enough room for layering.

Oh, shoot!  I just got my Timber Ghost mackinaw and didn't know they were different weights--would have ordered something heavier had I known.  Now you tell me!  I ordered on line.  She needs to put this information on the web site before others find out the hard way    :(

This is an interesting thread, because I was thinking of getting a pull-over and sizing is usually an issue.

Got a pullover for christmas. Iam 5'11" 200# and the large fit great. Its cut loose so theres plenty of room for clothes underneath. A great value Iam suprised that they arent much higher in price.

Just got home from picking mine up. Ordered XXL mackinaw in timber ghost. I'm 6-3 300lbs. Fits good. Can get layers on under it. Had a tshirt and fleece pull over on when I tried it on. Still room. Would have been nicer to get a little heavier weight wool but this will work just fine.

I ordered the mackinaw in the green and a hooded vest in the timber ghost on Monday. I'm 5'11" 240lbs. and I ordered them in the xxl. Woal always sizes small on me. Can't wait till they get here! I didn't know about the different weights on the wool. It would of helped on my selection of what I ordered. I'll let you know what I think in a couple of day.

I ordered one of the brown pullovers. I went with the brown wool because it's the heaviest. You cant argue with the prices, I hope it fits me.

Well, I guess I need to take back what I said in the above post regarding size.  I had ordered the mackinaw in Timber Ghost only to later find out that it is the lightest weight wool these come in.  I called Teresa and spoke with her about it which I should have done in the first place but I just like to order on line when I can.  She very graciously sent me another out in the heavier green color which arrived today--same size but I can hardly get this one on.  The sleeves are very tight so my hands barely get through them and no room for layering in this one.  I really don't want to send another one back trying to get the right weight and right size so not sure what to do--don't want to appear hard to please.  Wish I could have tried them on and picked what worked for me as it is really a great garment....Dave .

Pardon me but what distiguishes the mackinaw from the other pullovers available? The shirts look great. Looks like I'll need to order a 2XL. This is at the top of my 2010 wish list. Course the below freezing tempertures outside are helping to point out how badly I need one.  :banghead:

The mackinaw is like the regular pullover but also has the separate cape/hood that pulls on over the top--it fits under your arms and covers your upper chest and head.

Ordered the mackinaw and a vest on Dec. 28th and still haven't received them? Paypal shows that they weren't shipped out until Jan. 3rd. Our late archery season ends on Saturday. I was hoping to try it out by then. Oh well.

5'11" and 235# and the large works well. I ordered an XL in the drab olive vest to go over the large pullover.

I'll order some more when they have the brown pattern available. I really love that stuff!

Xmas present finally from the M Inlaw.

After years of asking for "Trad Gear" which is all I ever really need.  I got ahead of the game, and asked for a pull over hooded shirt from Theresa.  I'm 5-11 and 307lbs.  I ordered a XXXL, in the Green Buffalos Plaid??? And it fits superb, large enough to add some layers, but the sleeve still tapered for shooting.  I was not aware of different weights of wool, this feels a little lite, however, the service, and fit for me, are more than I can ask for.  Looks like I'll be ordering a vest to layer under neath...

Great Product...

I talked to Mrs. Asbell the evening after my post and she informed me that the XL I had received was sized wrong(she had some help at the time mine was made)so I've got a new one on the way, and that the XL should fit me fine.

So I have ordered the vest with hood in the timber ghost. Some have said they are of a liter wool that sounds good to me. Reason being I have one of Laclair's in gray and it is heavey. Durning a Nov elk hunt I had to remove layers from underneath it was so warm. It may be the same weight at Asbell's grey I dont know for sure. But you may check with Laclair for those looking for heavier weights, because that puppy was warm. I hope to enjoy the Asbell as well, and seeing how I mostly still hunt a little liter wool will be perfect.

My Mackinaw (green) and hooded vest (timber ghost) came today!! Can't wait to try them out tomorrow. Green wool seems a lot heavier than the timber ghost. Thats ok I got the lighter one in the vest, so I'll wear it over the mackinaw. I got the XXL and they will be great as top layers.  HURRAY!

Yep got my timber ghost vest last night. It is liter than the solid gray shirt I already have from LaClair. The shirts come from the same source so if you want heavier wool oder the solid gray or the brown. The vest is sweet love the pockets. Now waiting for a striped shirt from LaClair, and I will some good wool for next season.

Got my black/tan mackinaw in the mail. I'm 5'11", 195# (yeah, gained 5# since Christmas. Glad the bowl games are done), and the large fits just fine with room to spare for layering. I love it!!
