The riser is Cocobolo and Bocote and the limbs are instrument grade curly elm, first time I've seen or heard of curly elm, with Bocote accents on the limbs.
I've had 4 of Elmer's Black Feather longbows and this will be my first CC recurve.
Bill
That's a nice looking bow Bill. Let us know how it shoots.
bretto
Thats a sweet looking bow!
bretto,
Will do. If it shoots anywhere near the level of the Black Feather longbows, it will be a great shooting bow.
Bill
Hey Bill
Long time.
Hope all is well with you and yours. I like the looks of that new bow. Drop me a line sometime.
Hi Gene-o,
It's good to hear from you. Drop me an email at wlamb1647@hotmail.com and I'll update your email address in my contacts list.
Bill
I love my old copperhead. Best of luck with yours.
Hey Bill, I think it shoots better than his crowmags and his blackfeathers. The absolute quietist recurve I have ever shot. He said when I ordered it that it was the prettiest curly elm he would ever get in his lifetime.
Martin
That's a beauty!!
Pretty bow Bill, do you have any idea how many bow's you've owned over your lifetime????
Another Elmer Patton "MASTERPIECE" !! Have FUN with Her !!
Great looking bow.
It :) could it be said that it is something to "Crow" about?
Very nice.
Another sweet looking bow Bill. Hope she works out for ya!
Sweet looking.
Billy
Bill,
very nice looking bow! keep us posted on how she behaves.

Martin,
I received a PM from Elmer telling me the limbs are curly ash. He said he was only able to get enough of it to build four bows. He said the laminations came from 1 in a 1000 ash boards. I would imagine that the vast majority of the 1 in a 1000 go into instruments, like guitars.

TJ,
My lifetime with stickbows is about 8 years. I've bought, sold and/or traded somewhere around 105 to 110 bows in that span of time. It's really not as many as some I know of who go through that many in a year.
Bill
bill,i was following this sale for a while, you did good, it is beautiful.i traded for a cc recurve in nov. and enjoy shooting it, it shoots
cedar and 3 different stiffness aluminums so lots
of flexability in arrow choices.
Doug,
The first arrows I'll be trying out of it are ABS GrizzlyStik Sitkas, cut to 29" BOP, with 100 gr inserts and a 125 gr point up front. They fly great out of my three T/D recurves that are 46, 47 and 48#@28". What BH do you use on your recurve?
Thanks for the tips.
Bill
bill,i shoot 125 gr zwickey eskimos, but i have
2 dz single bevel heads from black swan that i got years ago from arvid that i wan't to try, i
think they are 145 gr,i'll let you know once i get a chance, doug
Very nice!
bill, i had broadhead on the brain, but my brace
height is 7 1/2 inches, when it was lower it affected arrow flight, you might have to play around with it. doug
Doug,
The one picture of the bow strung looks like it has a fairly high BH, like 7.5" to 8" range. That seems to be kinda of typical for recurves. But then again, the Copperhead has a fairly low grip which would probably reduce the BH some. But, I worry more about quietness and lack of handshock than anything else.
Bill
bill,i got a pm from elmer, seems like i have one
only 5 or 6 bows with a backset handle that he built,it's pretty cool looking, now i know why i was having to adjust my bh,looking at your bow
your brace height could be different,i would give elmer a call, doug
Sweet..... :clapper:
Well, I picked up the CC Copperhead recurve at The Archery Shop yesterday. It is a sweet shooting bow. I'll be sending it to Elmer to have him drop the draw weight to 46-47#@28". The 49# is just a bit over my comfort zone for shooting a bow for very long.
It's very quiet, quick and shoots where I'm aiming. I love it!
Bill
Good looking bow I am going to check into one of these for my girlfriend she whants a 50 style recurve. Best of luck with her. Widow
I've decided that in addition to having Elmer reduce the draw weight, I'm also going to have him install some copperhead skins. I recon that would be appropriate for a Copperhead recurve! ;) :D :biglaugh:
Bill
It seems as though Copperhead skins are becoming difficult to come by. However, Elmer does have a Timber Rattler skin that he said would be long enough to skin my CC Copperhead. It should match the Bocote in the bow very well. Below is a pic of two of Elmer's bows. The one on the left has Timber Rattler skins and the one on the right is self explanatory! :)

Doug,
Post a pic of your bow. I would like to see what it looks like.

A Crow Creek recurve with a different looking handle.

This slide show will show a bunch of gorgeous bows that Elmer has built. There's one of I believe his son Chris with a pig he shot with a recurve that is very distinctive. Here's the pic. I finally figured out how to get it. Hmm, I also finally figured out it's Gary and not Elmer's son Chris and it's a deer not a pig! :help:

I received an email from Elmer earlier in the week telling me he had finished the weight reduction, to 46.5#, and would start installing the snake skins and refinishing the bow the next day or two. :)
Bill
Nice bow....
