Ive got a 100# 62" mojo stik on its way, and I would like to have a arrow for it when it gets here. The closest I can figure out on stu millers site is a 2419 29" w/200gr tip but that only weighs 657 grains. I would like it to be arround 900 grains. any body know the spine of a 2419. and what is the heaviest, stiffest arrow.
 :scared:
Holy Moly!!!!!! Not sure of the spine of that arrow but with that kind of draw weight I don't think it matters what you put on the string!! :biglaugh:
You might look at Easton FMJ Dangerous Game 250(17.2 gpp) or the 300(15.4 gpp),add some 100 gr. inserts and it should give you a heavier arrow. And you might look at Grizzly Stick Alaskan or Safari.
I've shot the Easton FMJ Dangerous Game 250 through a 75# mojo stick and they were almost to weak I had to cut them to 28" a little short for a 28" draw.
Might have to go to a broomstick! :saywhat:  Sorry I'm not any help....
I would post this on the Dangerous Game section too. Those guys are used to hunting with "magnum" arrows.
Need to get some ipe shafts made for you. 23/64 shaft I built weighed 700 gr and tested 110# spine.
you can also stuff a shaft inside the other one to up the weight and spine.
Mike
What snag said. You may need a shaft-in-a-shaft design to stiffen them up. I don't think there are many shafts out there that are stiffer than the .250 fmj dangerous game shafts. I'm not sure how much shelf the mojo stick has, but you might be able to build the sideplate out some to get the fmj's to spine correctly. Not real happy to hear the fmj's didn't work out, since I was thinking of getting them for my recurve and longbow that are around 75# at my 29" draw. :(
I got some tonkin cane shafts that would prolly qualify. ;)
I have a piece of drill stem...tee hee...WOW..
you big biceps and back muscle maaaaaan.
jer Bear
pdk25, the .250 fmj dangerous game shafts might work for you if you go with a lighter point I was using a 200 gr tip.
I know Bear did it and maybe HIll, but many others have and that is to simply insert one shaft inside another. I bet that a carbon inside an aluminum would do it. Finding the right combo might take some experimentation.
elktalker, my arrows would need to be 30". I might have to use 125 grain tips and build out the sideplate some, then. Not much for FOC with that.
Have you tried Re-Bar?
No need for Broad heads just grind it to a point!
Ouch! Maybe a cut off fish arrow! That's an anti- tank weapon!

Why?
Sorry, I just can't figure a need for such a bow on this continent. Are you planning a safari?
I'm not sure any two of my arrows combined would be stiff enough! :scared:
I wouldn't have to worry about whether I could shoot that bow. I don't think I could get it strung. :banghead:
For the love of the power. Heavy bow holders do not use heavy bows because we think it is a requirement to kill the animal.
We do it because it is stinkin fun to pull a lot of stinkin power...leaving nothing in the way of effort on the table.
That's havin it goin on...you should try it sometime.
Elk, that 2419 spines out at 118 pounds.
Now that's no guarantee she'll fly like a dart
but it's a start.
Some years ago Easton made a 2440 shaft, the wt of a bare shaft was around 1200 grns. I still have a few for conversation pieces. I saw some on the auction site not all that long ago, they are still out there.
The spine of the Easton 2419 is .268 according to their chart. I have 6 of these shafts left from my compound days. The are cut off to 30.5 inches and are set up for uni-bushings. I beleive they use 2315 bushings and inserts. I would sell them cheap, email me if interested.
Easton doesn't have a specific static spine/pound relationship that I know of, only a 'range'.
Yes, 2419 = 0.268" deflection.
(0.268")(0.825) = 0.221"
26 รท 0.221 = 117.6# spine, measured with an
accurate spine tester using 26" centres & 2.000# weight.
The 0.825 conversion factor is mentioned in Stu Miller's "Dynamic Spine Calculator"
and in the PDF file of Kevin Gerlock's "Spine-O-Meter"
Elktalker how do you like your 100# bow? I've just ordered a 150# to 160# from JD. I'm going to order one from Big Jim longbow. If you find some 2440 shafts are spines beyond a 100#. I shoot them from my 160# hill longbow.
Thanx reaper but I dont think the 2419 will work knowing their spine now. But I will keep you in mind.
Hey, Marlon you are the Man not many men strong enough to pull 160#. I might get my 100# in the mail today. I ordered a Grizzly Stik safary from Ed, he thinks it might take the weight up front and still be stiff enough.
Take your heavy Easton shaft, go the local hardware and find some birch dowels that come in all sizes, if not a perfect fit, sand, or wrap with painters masking tape. It won't cure and you can change things, but if your using standard nocks you probably will have a tough time getting them out, unless you predrill the dowell, you can use a long #6 screw and pull the dowell out if needed. Cut the dowell to fit behind the insert and slide it into the Easton, or graphite of your choice.
Another option.
If they come with UNI Busings and nocks you'll be able to push the dowell out. Or, find a way to make/install a UNI in your shaft. The dowells run about 0.59 cents, lot cheaper than a standard graphite, glass or alum. inside another.
You can pre-weigh everything, and figure out what will work.
I have an old magazine article on Paul Schafer hunting cape buffalo using 1916 shafts inside 2117 shafts for his 90# recurve. Might be close to what you would need for a 100# longbow.
Just did a quick check from my hoard of shafts and found that the 1916s will also fit the 2216 and 2219s and that the 20xx shafts will fit inside 2215s. That should give you a wide range of spines and arrow weights to play with.
hvyhitter,
Thanks for the info the 1916 fits nice into the 2219. Havn't shot it yet,if thats not stiff enough the 7595 fits in even better. and they're both .300 spine (aprox).

Really interested in the results you get. I dont like carbon arrows and I have been planing on picking up/have built an 85+ recurve later this spring. In 2011 I am planning on treating myself to a buffalo hunt somewhere after getting deadbeat exwife #2 paid off and before I find #3.
