Hey Gang,
I watched the last 2/3 of a show about Javalina Hunting in Texas today. There was a mix of recurve and compound hunting. JD Jones was on the show and did a great set on calling javelina and shot two back to back using calling techniques. The first part I saw had a guy who was new to trad missing a Javelina twice and then switch to a compound.
Despite that bit of foolery, I thought the show was well done, and presented trad archery as fun, challenging, and totally doable. It actually encouraged trad hunting.
I wish I had paid closer attention to the show name and channel at the time so I could have posted it here.
Sportsmans Channel, Bowhunter Mag TV.
Have it DVR'd here at the folk's house.
Larry D Jones and Mike (not sure his name) are always trad hunters. I have seen both on many videos and such.
Larry has the best spot and stalk video I have seen for learning how to use signal mirrors and hand signals for communicating with the stalker or glasser.
Larry usually takes his boots off during the stalk. Does he still do that? That could be interesting in the Texas scrub in javelina territory!
I grew up in the northwest and Larry D Jones calling seminars is where I cut my teeth learning to call elk. It's great that all these years later he's still going strong.
A great guy too talk too also.
Mike
I like that show.I try and watch it when I can.
If you can catch the Buck Stops Here with Mike Hanback when he went to Montana he hunts with a friend who shoots a Robertson (I believe) longbow and he gets a nice buck. It was really a good show! The guy was good and had a really good attitude about everything.
I got to see that also..I was glued to the TV especially since I got my first Javi hunt scheduled with CK in Jan...Very well done, how about those wild turkeys, never seen anything like that.
I watched it as well, very good show.
i'm jealous, wish i had the sportsman channel or something like that. all i have is vrs. channel and besides tred bartas show, and that above mentioned episode of hanbacks you rarely see any trad hunting, it's all compounds. i shoot compound, and so far that's the only way i've taken game, besides rifle. but the more i shoot my recurve and spend time on her the less i think i'll ever use my compound again. nothing is for certain when it comes to the future, but mine seems to be heading down a trad highway :)

He sure did. That's one of my favorite hunting show episodes of all time. I love how the host (sporting training wheels and the latest, greatest camo) has a heck of a time of it, scares stuff left and right.
His partner, on the other hand, wearing plaid and a fedora and toting a pretty longbow - makes a great, close shot and gets good penetration on his deer.
Good stuff!
A young man on the Primos shows shoots a Bear recurve, and longbow. Has had some great footage on whitetail, and elk kills.
The "Buck Stops Here" show was just on Saturday here in NC......my son called me in when he saw the beginninng of the episode...it was a GREAT show and he shot a nice buck with his longbow.......
Okay, Okay, I will be glad to make the sacrifice and do a weekly traditional hunting show, all I need are sponsors.
What I want to know is, what happened to Fred Eichler? he used to be on every Sunday morning a 11 o'clock I think. Jason
Covey, it always goes off this time of year. I want to say he starts re-runs again soon? I know he signed for 6 more years of Easton Bowhunting which is great!
I hope you watch Muzzy's Bad to the Bone too because he's on there a lot also with his wife Michelle. Always always love Fred's shows. Not a bad article in TBM either.
Varmint, I watch the bad to the bone show "when I can catch it" and I read the artical in TBM so I hope next year we'll see him back on the TV! Thank's, Jason
