does anubody shoot big jims longbows they look really awesome just wonering how they shoot and what you think i still cant decide what kind of bow to get everytime i think of one i always find something else that intrests me so im sure ill ask about other bows thanks merry christmas /nick
I don't own one but I shot one last summer. It shot good and was quite. Be good to see some chronograph numbers on them for comparison. But I don't know that a few feet per second really makes that much difference.
You are right they sure are good lookin bows. I look forward to shooting one some time.
I own one. I love my bow! I had Big Jim make me a special two piece bow. Needed a bow that I could travel with.
Big Jim has so many exotic woods to work with. Do a little homework and decide what you like best. He has plenty of beautiful bow that are ready for shipping if you are in a hurry.
I suggest you be specific when explaining how you want your handle. Most of his bows have a larger handle than what I like. I had him make my handle smaller and rounded like the Savannah. He did a fantastic job.
Clay
Go to Georgia Outdoor News traditional archery forum and look thru the post on the first page and you will see pictures of four or five bigjim buffalo bows.
Jim is a nice fellow and builds a great bow!
i also like the grip on the savannah my brother has one very good does anyone know the prices or anything onn the bows
bought mine back in august or septfrom a tradganger and im very pleased with it
My web site is currently down, but I have a page up now that explains that and gives my phone number. There is also several bow pics there too.
I have chronoed my bows at over 200fps but that is relative to a modestly light arrow. I would say you could expect upper 180's to lower 190's out of 9+ g per lb.
What ever it is, I am constantly hearing about how quiet it is and how much faster it is than their bow of higher pounds.
I can make the grips anyway you would like, and bows start at $475 and that includes actionboo cores and most of the exotics I offer.
Unfortunately, I only have a couple of bows in stock, but the wait is worth it and not that long.
thanks,bigjim
BigJim worked a deal WITH a trade for me over the phone and really helped me out. The bow I rec'd shot great but I decided to someday have him make me a custom with the beavertail grip and traded it. His bows are a great value and look and shoot great. Great guy to work with. Thanks BigJim.

I just sent my order in to Big Jim a few days ago. I've never shot one of his bows, but have seen a few and they were truly works of art. Talking with Jim on the phone is like talking to an old friend who knows A LOT about wood and bow building. I'm really looking forward to the bow. I have small hands so I'm gonna have to call him and discuss the grip options.
Ken
I like mine alot. The craftsmanship is 1st rate. Its a very stable shooting bow.Its well made and tough.Very strong limb that seems twist proof and I am sure resists torsional bending.I think that aids in the stabilityThe woods on all the ones I have seen are of high quality. The glue lines are superb and the overlays are feathered in seamlessly.I got a 62 incher.Itsmarked51#s at 29 inches and draw it about 30 inches and notice no stacking.I dont have a chrono but its plenty quick.I like to shoot heavy arrows out of mine.550 to 650 grains
Excellant service and Jim and his wife Barb will take good care of you.Its an excellant value!I got a 2 piece and am very happy with it.No complaints here.Thumbs up
I have heard nothing but GREAT comments on him, besides he's he real gentleman.
WOW Jim, just went to the page you have up. Talk about some fine looking bows. I guess I need to shoot one of those takedowns. What type of veneers are on the top bow on the page? Flint
I just got a 2pc. and don't think you will beat the bow,the service,or the gentleman you will be dealing with.
Dad just got a takedown with cocobolo and zebra, sheep horn accents and beavertail grip. Incredible bow. Shoots point on with my BW recurve. Very sweet shooter and quite a looked for sure.
I have never shot a long bow, but have heard they are harder to shoot than a recurve. That is hogwash, I'd hunt this thing tomorrow and have only shot a few times.
Jim this thing is itching to go back with me, but I'd have to pry it from his cold dead fingers as he doesn't let it out of his sight.
I ordered mine from Big Jim w/o having seen one in person. I just read alot of good reviews. I am very pleased with it.
It is absolutely beautiful and shoots fast and quiet. Spending time in the backyard flinging arrows with this bow is a treat I look forward to each day. My grip feels like my hand grew around it. I will get another Buffalo Bow... next time - a two piece.
As stated above, a FINE Gentleman & FANTASTIC bow !! I let mine go to my buddy as Im more of a "D" style L/B guy, tried to get it back, NO LUCK, he loves it, Oh well, may need another, Jim also has a FANTASTIC selection of woods,, Can't go wrong with Jim & his lovely wife ,, GOOD PEOPLE !!
Guy's, I apreciate all the fine compliments, but aparently you havn't asked my wife's opinion of me. lol
Seriously, it's easy to make a beautiful bow when you start with beautiful materials. All I do is put them together.
Since my wife said no exotic dancers, I have to settle for exotic wood!
Here is a run down of the pics on the web page:
first two pics are Cocobolo limbs and cocobolo/macassar ebony handle and moose horn overlays. I intentionally picked this wood because of the sapwood contrast.
The 3rd & 4th pics are rocky mountain juniper limbs with osage/cocobolo handle.
5th,6th,7th pics are Cocobolo/osage throughout.
8th bow is bocote back side limb veneer, curly anigre bellyside limb veneers, and macassar and anigre handle. The curly anigre shows further down the list of pics.
The last bow is macassar ebony limbs and gaboon ebony/padauk riser with gemsbok horn overlays.
I think I will try to get this stuff posted under the pics.
I shure do apreciate all the interest.
thanks again, bigjim
Up for Troutms.Good stuff
Thanks Steelhead, should have done a search first, my bad.
Your welcome,no problem!Glad to be of help.
WOW, just looked at the wesite and when I can I will be ordering one of the buffalo bows. Great looking woods too.
ttt
Shot a couple of Big Jim's bows at ATAR
and had to have one....Got a 50# 64" Buffalo and
could not be more pleased . I believe you would
be quite happy with one of his creations .
Lets see a few of those White & Black Ebony models floatin around out there, the Mans work is SUPER NICE to say the least !!
I'm going to get one to.
I finished up another 3 piece longbow last night. She's a looker too! Cocobolo riser and limb veneers with Zebra and Macassar accents. I'll get her sprayed today and maybe some pics over the weekend If I can get help posting them.
BigJim
I just received a Buffalo bow just before going on vacation.
She's 62", 60@27", coco/osage. (on BigJim page)
I too have small hands, and this bow has the best grip I ever shot.
One thing you really need is the beaver tail grip.
Easy to shoot is an understatement, (I hunted her on the second day I had her) fast like I can't believe with my tapered ash that weight around 760grs
BigJim is as stated before a true gentleman and an asset to the trad community
F-Manny
Big Jim and his wife are great people....also little Jim...Jim knows his bows and woods i have spent a many hour talking and learning from Jim.I do like his bows....quiet and fast.
Good people..
Jamie
I had a group of guys here shooting bows today and for the fun of it we broke out the chronograph. I shoot a 785 g arrow out of my 86lb (9+gpp) bow scoring in at 195fps several times. Shot the same arrow out of a 53lb bow (that equals almost 15g per lb) and still came in at 157fps.
Now I want to exclaim that speed is not what I'm after, but its nice to know that you can weight down your arrow to what ever you desire and not have to worry about being able to out run it.
Bigjim
I've had the pleasure of meeting Mr and Mrs Big Jim on several occasions and got to shoot with Jim at the ATAR popups. They are good people and have great prices.
get that website working so we can look!
Did I miss something here! I didn't know you made a 3pc Longbow? Man that has to be screamer and a great shooter. The 1pc bows are fantastic! you won't go wrong with one of Jim's Bows.
I would love to see pics of the 3pc
Rob..
rraming- we are working hard on the website. but for now, we have a page up at our site that has several pics of some fairly recent bows that I have built and sent off. Take a look.
Rob- I caved to the pressure! lol. I'm actually enjoying building them. They do shoot extremely well, But when its all said and done, I prefer the lines of a 1 or 2 piece longbow and probably always will.
I am going to have some pics of one I'm finishing this weekend up soon. I lost all of my old pics when my site crashed. My personal computer crashed at the same time roughly so I had no backup.
Just like starting new!!!
Bigjim
I know I can't wait to get mine!!! Ordered it a couple of days ago.
Jerry
I bought my Buffalo Bow in Ocala Fla. Last Feburary. 50# @28" and 64"NTN. For Me, my best two shooting bows are the Big Jim Bow and an Assheimer that's a 54# bow. Both are dead quiet and no hand shock. Donnie is Osage and Big Jim is Cocobolo.
At first I had trouble with the Buffalo bow grip but that was due to me being a rookie at this archery thing and now I prefer this grip. Shooting a longbow is different than a recurve and this grip works just fine.
Jim is easy to deal with and when you purchase a bow from him you get a thank-you note from his nice wife. But they won't clean your deer for you, so you're on your own there.
Ribeye- I'm glad to hear that the bow is doing well for you. The grip thing is always a topic of discussion. If you are shooting a bow that your comfortable with, then it would take a little effort to get used to a bow with a different grip. I don't know that I have a standard grip since I try to make them in accordance to the info I get from the purchaser. If however you buy one off the rack, well the grip is made generally to somone elses specs and I missed weight on it. My grips evolve as time goes on because of the way my average customer request it.
Understand, that if you order one though, I will try to get it as close as possible to the way that you want it built.
Ribeye, hope to see you at the TBOF shoot again. It will be their 25th aniverserary and promises to be a good shoot.
thanks,bigjim
Has anyone shot Jim's three piece?
Well I couldn't take it anymore. I've been wanting a good 2 pc for awhile and have been going around and around about who to build it. I talked to BigJim last night and I'm now in-line for one of his fine bows.
BigJim it was a pleasure speaking with you. (Dan Albright)
TJ- There has only been one 3 piece delivered to a customer. He is excited and enjoying as we speak. The riser is 13.5" and the limbs are designed to be very similar to my 1 and 2 piece longbows.
Bigjim
BigJim....That 3 piece looks amazing!!! I found it yesterday on the other site and looked at it off and on all day...drooooling. What's not to be excited about w/ that bow? The riser is beautiful, but really doesn't hold a candle to the lams on those limbs! WOW! Awesome looking piece for art rt there. I'd love to shoot it for sure..
Keep up the great work as from the looks of that 3pc it made my short list.
Mike
I like being on the short list!
thanks Mike, bigjim
Yea im excited about your 3 piece Jim.
The only problem I have with my Buffalo Bow is that I keep busting nocks. That started before I even left Jim's place.
Truly one of the best deals for the dollar. I just have to start saving up for a two or a three piece.
Where can we see the 3 pc.?
Jim, how long are you on your orders? Thanks. BILL
Jim,as you know us Trad archers are a weird bunch of ducks and tell it like it is.If we say your bows are great and your a pleasant fellow to deal with I guess you'll have to wear that handle .As far as what your wife thinks thats just Pillow talk and doesn't really count on this site LOL.I'd love to try one of your bows.
I hate to admit this, but the only reason I havn't posted many pics here, is that it's too difficult for me (computer idiot)to post pics on this site. By the time my wife gets them posted, I'm in for a rough night. Wy can't it be easier to post here like it is elsewhere? i'm not the only one who thinks so either. three piece is posted on LW and GON Forum
Back to bows! My build time is running about 10+ weeks. This is changing though. I must have done something right, since I have sold 18 bows since christmas and new inquireys every day. I can only guess that it is from the help of my many new friends and there polight words. Well that and my charming personality.LOL
Hunting season is bout over here though and that will put me back in the shop and hopefully keep that waiting period at 10 or less weeks.
I am going to do my best to get a couple of pics from two three pieces I have posted. Other wise I will have them on my temporary web page in a day or two.
thanks,bigjim
Here's a couple of pictures of the three piece buffalo bow.

Like others said it here and on the other site, those bows are meticulously made, and an unbelievable deal too!
The more I shoot my buffalo bow, the more I like it!
Nobody could find a better person to deal with than BigJim
F-Manny
Mike- I apreciate the pictures. I'm still working on my other pics too.
Manny- Go ahead and try to wear that bow out, I dare you!
Shoot straight and often, Bigjim
Jim,
I think you're going to be plenty busy keeping up with orders for that 3 piece.
Do you take trade in's :)
How much are you getting for your 3 piece bow Jim.
Joevan - 3 piece starts at $600 + options. Billy, I do take trades from time to time.
thanks, bigjim
I've never really liked the 3 pc bows until I saw the pic above. I believe my next Buff bow just might be a 3 pc. I hope you have plenty of that dalmation ebony Jim. ;)
Ken
don't get online much anymore so late joinin in but did want to say I am lucky enough to own one of Jim's bows (one piece but hope to convert it to a two piece someday) and it has been my go-to bow almost from the first time i shot it (whenever my joints allow it). made meat first time i had it out so the mojo's definitely there and its a pretty bow, craftmanship is top notch and i think they're the best deal in the bow business---and you won't find an easier bowyer to deal with than Jim, he's a crackerjack.
Your bows are just beautiful!
I don't want to pirate this thread ,but could any one post pictures of their Big Jim bows as I'm trying to talk myself out of ordering one but I'm failing fast .I think its best to just not fight it .Thanks !

Steve- If you havn't yet, take a look at my temporary web page. I have some pics there.
thanks,bigjim
I would sell a kidney or a chunk of liver to get this bigjim bow around 50-54 lbs

Jim,this is what is causing me to give in ,Absolutely beautiful bows.
Caleb,This is the Exact bow I had in mind,Great minds EH!LOL
I couldn't take it anymore. I just emailed Jim. There will be a new bow in my future :)
My bow came in this weekend and the wood combos are the same as Mannys (osage and cocobola) . My bow is everything I want in a longbow , smooth drawing , good speed , great grip , quite enough for me , very solid well made bow and just down right awesome looking . All that at a great price and a cool T shirt to boot !
Mike
Big Jim, Looks like I am going to have to call you earlier then I wanted, all these folks talking about how great your bows are, it maybe Oct before you would get to me on your list... :-)
Caleb,I couldn't take it any longer and just sent Jim my left kidney and a partial Lung. That Bacote beauty got the best of me .Hopefully this spring I'll be flinging Shafts with the help of my "Big Jim".
We'll have to set up a Buffalo Bow Shooter rendez-vous :campfire:
Next year when I'll order the same exact bow but 2 pieces, if life allows, I might have to wait more than I did this year!!!!
F-Manny
Big Jim,you gonna be at the Rocks Pond shoot in SC in Feb.?I would like to try your 3 peice bow out.Are they cut way past center?I need a bow for shooting the LB class in IBO Southern triple crown.
steve, that is awesome! it will totally worth it! :) I am in the process of crunching numbers to see if this week or next week will be the week I officially order! The whole 2 piece question is what I don't know about yet....
Caleb,Same thoughts I had ,I couldn't quite swing the two piece, anyways I sent Jim a deposit so I guess I'm officially on the wait list.I know it will be worth it.
Arrowhead- I wish I could be at Rockspond in Feb.
but going to have to miss it. I'm going to be in Uvalde TX that week. The Texas Shootout it going on at that time and I need to be there.
When they were setting the date this year, I was had my fingers crossed it wouldn't conflict with Rockspond but it must have been the wrong fingers I crossed.
Thanks steve, sent you an email. Need just a couple more details.
thanks,bigjim
