Alright hunting wild hogs in Ohio seems to be a bust. At least on public hunting land. Does anybody know where a man can take his son hog hunting in Ohio or Kentucky that has limited budget.
David ,you can hog hunt in the Daniel Boone national forest in KY,all it will cost is license and motel. There are a lot of hogs there if you don't care to walk but if you hog hunted before you already know that.It is in south eastern KY and runs along and into north TN.
What Eric said, but it will be mostly straight up and down, rugged mountain terrain.Dontknow how old your son is, but can be done.
I know about where that forest is. Went on vacation in that area before. That was some pretty country down there. Thanks for the information.
The hogs here om Ohio are mostly in Vinton and Gallia counties. They fortunatly have been rather slow to spread across the state. Even in these counties though they are hard to find. Most people who do kill hogs around here do so during the deer gun season or in a farmers crops during the night. If you do happen to be in these areas by all means shoot any hog you see.
I've been to the DBNF once. Koger is right, it's very rugged terrain, at least compared to what I'm used to!
I sure didn't know there were a lot of hogs anywhere in KY though. Are they becoming a real problem there in the DBNF?
Big South Fork I plan on hunting hogs there in 2010.

Good Luck..& better pack some mountain climbing shoes...Peters Mountain is a good place to start....not near as many hogs as there used to be,but a few around...take a fishing pole as Rock creek is some fine trout & smallmouth fishing as well as scenic..camping opportunitys are unlimited...their's bear there to...so watch your coolers & trash..lol..
Thanks. I talked to someone there and they said that there are spots with enormous populations. I figured that he meant pockets of hogs though.
Yes there are hogs in the area, a friend of mine shot 3 on the first day of modern rifle season in the South Fork country. But like Eric and Koger said, it is rough hunting and about as remote as you will find on the east coast. I just checked the KY Hunting Guide and a permit is required to hunt the Big South Fork. Come on down deer season is still on until Jan 18th.
Thanks for the invite Glenn.
Benha...I think pockets is probably a good description. We are certainly not overrun like the south and they are so sparce I have never seen any of them eye ball to eye ball and roam that country from time to time.
