Title: Limbsavers at the limb tips
Post by: olddogrib on December 24, 2009, 01:35:00 PM
After reading TBM's recommendation to use the mini-limbsavers at recurve limb tips as opposed to the fadeouts, I've had two sets fail.  The adhesive backing is staying attached but the rubber portion is popping off the backing.  SIMS claims the string striking the saver on release is what's causing this and recommends relocating the saver down the limb to where there is a one inch clearance to the string at brace. This no longer seems to be at the tip and may be into the working portion of the limb.  Anyone had similar experiences?  Will this add too much weight to the limb at their recommended location?

I have always put them about 3" from the fades

I can't imagine adding weight to a limb tip on purpose.  It will slow the bow down a bunch. The one's I've seen have been installed near the fades and dampen the limb fibration.

Anything on the tips will slow it down, always have put them on the fades.

I never had the problem and I reuse them all the time-  Go to wally world and get some extra strong 2 way tape works great and comes off easy.

What the bowyer said. Weight on the tips would hurt performance.

I know on a Das Dalaa I had they recommended 3" from the riser which put it at the faded outs.I used a set on a Black Swan hybrid and installed them 1" past the fade outs, worked great there for me.

The TBM tests showed them to be significantly better at dampening noise and vibration at the tips. Surprisingly, velocity loss as I recall was about 1-2 fps.

One would presume that Sims must have a valid reason for calling for installation at the tips with 1" of string clearance. I cannot imagine they would suggest this installation without testing.

But then, maybe they are just tricking us into doing something foolish. Neat new marketing gimmick perhaps???
