Opinions please, on the classified add's, I had a bow for sale, someone said they wanted to buy, I said done deal. Now after several days and no response to my PM I'm thinking maybe he changed his mind. Now, trying to be fair, how much time is adequate before you can feel pretty sure the guy has "changed his mind" and you can offer the bow to someone else? I'm just trying to do whats fair to the buyer.
24 hours is plenty of time in my opinion.
I've never had an issue though.
I have bought and sold on the classifieds and if someone is serious, they generally respond in a matter of hours if not minutes.
Also, a bit of advice, always get a phone number.
If you have made attempts to contact, it is not on you.
Good luck,
Paul
did they send you a deposit? if not, It comes down to business is business. I would say a few days, if no replies or anything and someone else is looking first one that pays, comes first.
Enough time for sure. If I were the buyer and was going out of town or something I would have passed that on to you the seller as to not keep you hanging.
I would say 3 days or so. Just the other day without notice or a way to contact someone my internet service went out and I was unable to contact the seller for a couple days. So there may be a unknown reason that the person has not replied.
If I sell things here on the forum I dont plan on getting the money right away.
Also keep in mind that if the individual mailed a Money Order that it is the holiday season and might take just a little longer.

I'd give him a week just to be sure in case he had some unforseen problems.
It's been 6 days now. My PM back to him has not been opened and I have not received any money or any other word from the individual.
I would go to his profile and see how much activity he has had. You should be able to tell if hes a regular, also if hes been active recently.
I allow a couple days just in case of problems. Also I figure some people may only have net access at work, and I always wait over a weekend. I figure if someone is real serious they will get with the program in a day or so. 6 days is way to long IMO. I would get on with the sale to a new person. I never pull an add until I have payment in hand. I just tell any new inquirers that I think the bow is sold, and I will let them know for sure. That way I have the next buyer lined up.
I think you have given him plenty of time Matt. I don't know why, but sometimes PM's don't get opened. Might be a problem on their end somehow, or maybe they just read the message in emails and never open it on Trad Gang.
I did have it happen once and I sent a PM and simply gave him another couple of days to respond or I would assume he no longer wanted the bow.
Always good to keep in mind that sometimes life gets in the way. Computer crashes, medical issues, work, etc. etc. and he might not be able to respond. But I sure think by now he would understand if he lost out on the deal.
The past few times my computer crashed I went to the library or a friends house to check my messages, granted you can't sit and chat but at least give the seller a heads up. That's what happened when I bought my bow a few months back!
I've had better luck contacting people via email. Just click on their handle and it will take you to their personal page and an email connection. Not everyone logs on here everyday so some deals take longer than others. It is also Christmas. I know I have been distracted more than I anticipated this week. It's a busy week for everyone.
You've given them plenty of time to get the deal rolling, I'd move on.

Yep, plenty of time. 3 days should be plenty.

I would think 3 days is fair.
I'd say 3 days is enough BUT keep in mind its xmas and people are busy. Kinda like the mail system right now, some slow, some fast. Send em an email, or give em a call. If no reply after 24 hours - count on em as having changed thier minds.
If you don't have a confirmation via pm or deposit I would still keep it listed and add pending sale all offers accepted.48 hrs should be sufficient for him to reply. You did your part.
Sounds like enough time to me.
Six days sounds like enough time to at least get a response. I think you are being plenty fair.
maybe he is on vacation.
it is the holiday season.
also, you said he had not opened your pm, so he might very well have a good reason for not getting back to you right away.
Thanks for all your input. I just wanted to get a feel for what was the outer limit on a response. When I buy on the classifieds the deal is done in hours typically a day at the most. It's going on the 9th day now, factoring in the holiday season, I feel confident the buyer has lost interest.
Thanks again! Hope everyone here has a special holiday season and a healthy new year.
Matt
Whether a person has just expressed interest in purchasing or actually has agreed to do so, the courteous thing to do if he/she loses interest is to communicate that fact to the seller. It doesn't take much effort, and all involved will feel better.
Matt ,you've been more than fair. Our deal took just hours the way it should .All the best my friend and we'll be talking soon and a Merry christmas.
