Title: fletching-3-4-parallel .....problems!
Post by: saumensch on December 21, 2009, 09:26:00 AM
Hi,

i was making some arrows and thought about a 4-fletch, but is ir right that two feathers would be in cock-fether position? shouldnt it be like the two left ones on a RH bow 3 fletch mirrored?

Is there something to say against 4 fletch? i am not completely sure, but i just dont seem to get the cockfeather on a 3-fletch parallel to the nock so i thought why dont eliminate the cokfeather.

Any avice is apreciated. thanks

And if someone would have or now where to find an illustration of how exactly the feathers should be compared to the nock in 3 and 4 fletch would be great

Regards

there is no 'cock feather' with a four fletch.  there is no need to index the nock.

your fletching jig needs to be able to fletch four fletch as 90x90 or 75x105 or 60x120.

Is there any advantage between the 3 different settings?

All of the different setting are to create better shelf clearance when shot.  I've shot 4 - 90 for 20 years or so and couldn't tell the difference of flight of the other two combinations when I have tried them.  Some bows I'm sure it would make a difference on. dino

Rob pretty much nailed the answer to your question. To add I four fletch trad arrows, and have done some for the WHEEL bow guys who use drop away rest's with pretty good results.
