Well, I stopped by Brian's shop to TRY to finalize my wood choices for the next set of twins...it is almost impossible! He's got so many nice pieces of wood, I am almost to the point of telling him to make it out of what he likes to work with best.
There is a lot of activity at the shop with him working on customer orders and building up a small inventory of stock bows to take to Kalamazoo.
Here is a Bacote riser on the left and Pau Ferro on the right.

Here is a pic of some unfinished limbs; Myrtle on the left and Canebrakes on the right. Brian does EXCELLENT snake skin work...I think it may come from being a fine taxidermist.

On the limb pic you can see the first stage of a few risers; I see from front to back:
Brazillian Rosewood
Bacote
Zircote
Wenge
Curly Maple
I looked at a lot of wood pieceswhile I was there and what caught my eye in addition to these was the Bubinga, Osage, and Walnut both in vaneers and riser blocks. He's got some KILLER Cocobolo, but I've already got one of them...
wow, those myrtle limbs are OUTSTANDING. I may have to try one of these bows out. Everytime I see one I get a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Oh yeah, that pau ferro riser is sweet too...Mike
Steve, You were right those myrtle limbs are stunning.....I wonder how they would go with maccassar ebony or maybe wenge or cocobolo or shedua....tough choice but I've got to decide soon!!
Brian, ya definitely got a good eye for putting good looking pieces of wood in those bows.
Those limbs are awesome!
oh my, my my.... those myrtle limbs are phenominal
fred, if i have a vote (and i know i do) i'd say a macassar riser w/ a bocote accent stripe would be an outstanding combination!!
can't go wrong any way you go
And bocote or myrtle limbs????
I just answered my own question....I think I'm going with maccassar ebony riser with bocote accent stripe and myrtle limbs.....
Man,,, I have to say those myrtle limbs are some of the nicest veneers Ive ever seen.Brian has a good eye for picking materials.
Yep, Brian puts out one of the finest bows available today. Also, a great guy to deal with. It's refreshing to see a product of this quality being produced at a reasonable price. Needless to say, I have one on order and can't wait till his 3 piece longbows are available.....
yes fred, my thoughts exactly!! macassar/bocote riser and myrtle limbs
gonna be sweeeeeeet
Man!! I wish I could drive to his shop and take a look at the woods he has on hand. Just a bit far from MS though. I can't wait for him to get started on mine!
Hey Steve, will those stock bows be for demo or sale? Glad he will be there, as good as so many of these bows look I still want to shoot them before I set down and order. Did he stain that myrtle? I don't think I've seen it that dark before, what an awesome piece of wood.
Steve,it is real Brazilian rosewood the one on front?Really good selection of nice woods, the choice is very difficult.I second Ebony on the riser to have as much fisical weight possible and it marries well with Bocote
I hope he won't leave us lefties out at K'zoo!!!!
Nice work Brian. Just stunning. I bet its hard for you to keep a stock inventory. Tall Tines is definately on my bow wish list.
Thanks for the compliments guys. I will have stock bows at Kzoo and I won't be leaving out the lefties. The myrtle isn't stained but the color and contrast sure does change once it is glued up. With trying to keep up with orders and build stock bows for the show I'm pretty much working day and night to keep up with my build time. I'm hoping to have several bows there to try out. Merry Christmas everyone.
WOOOOOWEEEEEE.....that Myrtle is some fancy stuff.
Brian has an eye for picking out nice woods....that's a good thing, but it's also a bad thing.....sure makes it hard deciding on what you want. I just wonder if that has anything to do with me staying broke all the time :)
Those are sweet limbs.
A tall tines 'curve is most definately on my try out list.
Those are some great looking limbs
Awesome, Brian just emailed me the pic of the myrtle limbs today.
I'm going with those limbs with Bolivian Rosewood for the riser. Should be awesome!!!
Very good looking stuff Brian. I didn't need to see those cane brake limbs.
The reason I'm posting this is to bring the page back up to the top. Why??? Cause I keep coming back to this thread to stare at those Myrtle limbs....WOW!! This thread is getting more expensive to look at all the time! Does anyone know of a Trad. addicts anonymous therapy club???
Hey Steve, being I'll be getting one of the new twins I'am almost sorry I told you not to tell me what they will look like!! After looking at these pictures I can't wait to see what combination you picked out for us. I can't wait for Kalamazoo when we'll be able to shoot the new bows. Oh, and by the way guys Brian hasen't forgotten the lefty's. I'am one of them!!!
Yes and the Chimaster has graciously agreed to make sure there are a couple lefties at Kzoo...no matter what!
Gary, you do now know what the limbs are going to look like...how could I resist those! I'll keep the riser under wraps for now.
Ryan,
I'll hand deliver your bow for you and maybe even trade you my spot in line if you would take me bear hunting for a couple days :goldtooth:
I really like the grip syle.
Those are very nice, my # should be coming up soon.

Oh yeah...you NEED a set of those! Buy now! Buy now!
Chocolate myrtle like that is extremely hard to get. I Live in Oregon and build a lot of bows with myrtle limbs and I treasure it when I get that kind of wood, I go buy directly from the mill and still cannot find it. I do have some really great fiddleback myrtle though if you need any Brian get a hold of me. Good looking bows . Steve
You don't have one yet Lowebow, you are the one that needs to make a call to Brian.

The crystal ball says there is one in my future, just doesn't say when???? :bigsmyl:
I didn't know your wifes nickname was "Crystal Ball"
^^that's funny^^
I've not read anything on this site that has made me spit my drink all over the computer...that is a first...I wonder if she is Lucy's sister?
I should have a couple more pics to put up for Brian in the next day or two; he's got a couple drying.
Very nice! :notworthy:
Crystal does have a better ring to it than Iron...LOL.
Or Blue!
You guys are killing me.. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
When is Brian coming out with his take down longbow. I can't wait to see one.
Tom,
Allen made me a string. Just waitin' for a bow to put it on. :jumper:
Louis
How long is the wait on one of these bows?
Joe
I'm not sure what the wait is now but when I ordered mine back in October I got it in about 3-4 weeks. I'm sure it's a bit longer now, but trust me it's well worth whatever the wait is. Brian's bows are not only great looking but are great performing bows. I know I will never get rid of mine.
He's quoting 12 weeks right now and is doing a little better than that. Better to get your bow before it is due than later
As Steve O said, I'm trying to maintain about a 12 week build time right now, hopefully a little quicker. I was able to get Garrett his bow a little quicker because he stopped in the shop and just happened to see a stock riser I was working on. He had told me his other bow had broke. Anyway, I saw an opportunity to help him out and get him back in the woods, where a young man should be so I got him some limbs built pretty quick. I'm working on several stock bows right now for Kzoo. I'll try to get them posted up before the show for those that want a preview of what will be there.
Those myrtle limbs are beautiful....we need more pic's!!! I may have Brian skin my next TT...those look real good too.
Anybody got a TT with an osage riser? Really like the osage......
Here is a new Bocote bow:
Brian, when you post the K-Zoo bow pics would it be OK to post prices with them? Your bows are on my short list to shoot at K-ZOO.
Wow Brian, nice work. I can't wait to get my hands on one of those beauties!
Holy Moly!!! Wow!! Those are great looking bows!!
Boy...that bacote looks good.....can't wait for my name to come back up....
Great looking bow.
Here's a Cocobolo riser fresh out of the spray booth--not red yet. Limbs are Bocote again I believe; I can't remember
There will be a bunch of bows for Kzoo in RH and LH and I will throw the pics up for Brian when he has them ready. You guys can buy all of them except for the two sets of twins that are mine and the sweet camo one...
Very nice looking wood.
Dave
Wow, very nice Bocote.
He is building me an all Zebrawood bow with ebony accents and horn tips, cannot wait.
Brian should be starting on my bow soon as well, can't wait!!!
Yep, those last limbs are a dark Bocote.
When you order an exotic vaneer from Brian, it is going to be worth the extra coin
Can't wait to see those pictures Steve, I better get to Kzoo friday, when the doors open!!!
Brian came to hunt with me in MT this past fall. He killed a nice mule deer and a bull elk. He shot them both with his "Tall Tines" bow.
I can tell you: He makes a great looking bow...but more importantly a great shooting bow. I got to shoot them and see them in action. Brians bow is awesome!
He is an excellent bowyer and I think his Tall Tine bow is destined to be one of the best custom bows available.
Peter Iacavazzi
does the bowyer who makes tall tine bows have a website?
Michael,
Brian is a sponsor hre and the website is:
http://www.talltinesarchery.com/index02.html
Put my order in today Just have to wait 12 weeks now Philip
It'll be here before you know it....besides it gives you plenty of time to decide on a wood combo and to drool over the pics on Brian's website... :)
