Title: Changing inserts. Need advice.
Post by: Feather Flinger on December 19, 2009, 09:19:00 AM
I ordered some weighted inserts and some weights to screw into the back of the inserts to add weight to the tip of my GT 5575 Traditionals. My question is what is the correct way to remove the original insert without damaging the arrow shaft? I've changed some in the past by heating them up but want to make sure I don't do any damage. I bought the weight wrench but was going to use the inserts also. Thanks for your input.

I heat the threaded end of a field point & thread it into the insert & leave it there for a while then pull out the insert as the glue softens from the heat.
Use a pair of pliers & get the point pretty hot.

Usally the stock inserts of most carbons are threaded on the back to accept screw weights. If you have the wrench, just remove the nocks and screw on some weights.I'm not sure what you mean weighted inserts, there is the stock inserts and 50 gr. & 100 gr. brass inserts.

Just take a 8-32 tap and tap all the way thru you do not need to remove insert if you are conserned about heating tips.

I use a 175 gr field tip, screww it in to the insert mounted in the arrow, put it over an alcahol-burner flame, and rotate slowly, counting to 10,then with a small pair of channel-loks,twist and pull and the insert will come out.
